This is America... 1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival.

The American West, 1857. Sara Rowell and her son Devin are heading for Crooks Springs, Utah, to meet her husband. She could not be heading into a more dangerous area at a more inopportune time. There are the usual bands of bandits and the ongoing conflict between Native Americans and settlers but right now the territory of Utah, in particular its Mormon population, is on the brink of war with the US government. Mormon militia harass and even attack settlers moving through Utah. It is on such a convoy that Sara and her son find themselves.—grantss
