Adult Swim announced two all-new original series on Wednesday morning.

Horror Movie ‘The Breach’ Wraps With Slash Co-Producing Score, Rodrigo Gudiño Directing
Image
Raven Banner Entertainment announced it has completed production on Rue Morgue Magazine founder Rodrigo Gudiño’s “The Breach,” marking a reunion with former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, who serves as the film’s executive producer and co-producer of the score.

Based on a book by horror novelist Nick Cutter (born Craig Davidson), with a screenplay co-penned by Cutter and Ian Weird, “The Breach” centers on John Hawkins, who is set to retire from his post as police chief of the small town of Lone Crow that is tucked away in the deep woods of northern Ontario. But following the discovery of a gruesome body with uncanny injuries, he’s pulled into an investigation to solve the horrifying mystery, which evades explanation.

“There’s a reason why Nick Cutter’s stories are terrifying audiences,” Gudiño said. “I am thrilled to be bringing his work to life and couldn’t have...

Actor Michael Pena is the latest Hollywood talent to don the collar to take on the forces of darkness when Mark Neveldine’s The Vatican Tapes opens in theaters nationwide today. However, Pena’s portrayal of Father Lozano, a Catholic priest tasked with saving the soul of a young woman from satanic forces is just another in a long line of similar portrayals in horror film history. Review: Stung
As someone who grew up watching creature features (usually courtesy of Elvira’s Movie Macabre), I absolutely had a blast with Benni Diaz’s recent killer wasp romp, Stung. Part old-school critter camp, part new-school mentality, the horror comedy features some incredible special effects, tons of great gore and wickedly fun kills, as well as a strong script from Adam Aresty that does an excellent job balancing out the humor and horror of the situation. Stung never strays too far from its B-movie roots and perfectly celebrates everything fans enjoy about these types of films with an infectious enthusiasm.

Stung starts off rather innocently, as we follow Julia (Jessica Cook) and her co-worker Paul (Matt O’Leary) who are on their way to cater a swanky backyard party where they’re hoping to impress their upscale clientele. Everything goes as planned until a swarm of mutant killer wasps show up...

‘Hellbenders’ Review
Stars: Clifton Collins, Clancy Brown, Andre Royo, Robyn Rikoon, Macon Blair, Stephen Gevedon, Larry Fessenden, Dan Fogler | Written and Directed by J.T. Petty

Let me begin this review by stating this is most-definitely not your typical horror fare; something audiences will realise a mere five minutes into this raucous, sure-to-be-cult-hit, movie. Written and directed by J.T. Petty, who also penned the graphic novel on which this is based, Hellbenders is a genre-bending horror comedy that is most akin to Don Coscarelli’s recent movie John Dies at the End. If I had to narrow the analogy down I’d say Hellbenders is best described as The Exorcist meets Ghostbusters by way of Don Coscarelli and [early] Kevin Smith…

Sound interesting? Then go out and buy it. Trust me. The rest of you? Let me try and convince you why you should spend your hard-earned cash on this little indie horror that could.

Blue Ruin Review
Under no circumstances should you mess with a man’s family, and no recent movie echoes that sentiment with more ferocity than Blue Ruin. Introducing a hobo-like character, a mute man obviously decimated by some type of tragedy, it’s not long before our “hero” begins his journey for redemption, revival, and most importantly, grisly revenge. There’s a premium on gut-wrenching emotion and a minimum on backstory explanation, aiding Murder Party director Jeremy Saulnier’s second feature effort. It’s a bit long and tends to drag at points, but lead actor Macon Blair perfectly exemplifies how when you take everything from a man, reducing him to the level of a mentally distraught street-urchin – what’s left to lose? People are nasty, grudge-holding beings who understand that even though violence may not be the answer, there aren’t many other options.

We meet Dwight (Macon Blair) living out of a rusted blue Pontiac,...

Your Wish is Granted! Scream Factory is Releasing Chiller Films’ ‘The Monkey’S Paw’
Unfortunately, I live in one of those areas of the United States that is slow to pick up channels like Chiller, FearNet and even Robert Rodriguez’s new network El Rey. One carrier might carry the network or maybe every carrier except for mine. Regardless, Scream Factory – the best in the business in genre home entertainment – is eliminating the obstacle of seeing Chiller’s original content by bringing last year’s The Monkey’s Paw to Blu-Ray & DVD. The film is directed by Brett Simmons (Husk) and has a screenplay by Macon Blair (who is amazing in Blue Ruin but you’ve seen his acting abilities in Murder Party and, more recently, Hellbenders) based off of W.W. Jacobs’ original short story. We have the full details on when you can get your paws on The Monkey’s Paw.

Hellbenders (2013) Review
Im not entirely certain of who this film is actually going to appeal to. It goes without saying that thats a big problem. I suppose those who find a very very easy laugh or lean toward offensive material may see the sheen through the thick layer of rust. If youre an avid film watcher or a horror buff in particular youre likely going to view Hellbenders just I do. Its decent in spots (watch for the more subtle humor as thats where writerdirector J.T. Petty really wins) but at the end of the day when all is said and done its also a forgettable film that manages little more than neglecting the capabilities of a pair of legitimately amazing performers. Bummer.

J.T. Petty Talks Hellbenders and More!
J.T. Petty’s newest entry into the genre is the horror comedy hybrid Hellbenders (review), a lightweight but surprisingly warm-hearted adventure focusing on a group of debaucherous exorcists who stay in a constant state of sin in order to trap demons more effectively before being sent down the elevator to hell.

Petty enjoyed some success with 2008’s The Burrowers, and it isn’t hard to tell that the same set of eyes was behind the camera for Hellbenders. The director spoke to us briefly about the film, which is now available on Blu-ray in glorious 3D.

DC:i remember first meeting you at Fangoria Radio years ago when you were promoting The Burrowers, which I first saw at Fantastic Fest back in 2008. That film was a genre twist on a western, and Hellbenders is a twist on religious horror. Is the fresh take on an old idea what first gets you excited about an idea?...

Clancy Brown Talks Having Nothing Left to Fear
From the psychopathic, Christopher Lambert-bothering Kurgan in Highlander to tyrannical prison warden Byran Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption through to new recruit-maiming drill sergeant Zim in Starship Troopers, it's safe to say that I am one of the many movie fans who have more than just a handful of favourite Clancy Brown roles.

Brown joins an impressive cast that includes Anne Heche and James Tupper for Nothing Left To Fear, the first horror film to come from former Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash's production company 'Slasher Films'. Akin to Seventies horror classics The Wicker Man and Rosemary's Baby, Anthony Leonardi III's debut feature channels fears of the occult, secret societies and the supernatural with a modern twist.

We snapped up the chance to get the first word from Clancy himself on his latest role as the ominous Pastor Kingsman, head of a mysterious Baptist church...

We spoke with you, Clancy, and Clifton during the VOD release for this movie and you said that it’s a script and project that came together very quickly. Were there any major changes from what you initially had in mind or did the movie stick pretty closely to the script?

Jt: We stuck pretty close to the script. I wouldn’t have minded improvising a bit more, but between the 3D and our budget, we had to move fast.

It can be very difficult to get the comedy, horror balance right,...

Clancy Brown interview: Warcraft, Nothing Left to Fear
Interview Luke Savage 18 Feb 2014 - 06:30

Luke chats to the amazing Clancy Brown about working for Slash, Buckaroo Banzai, defining the 80s, and the franchise potential of Warcraft.

He chopped Sean Connery's head off in Highlander. Saved the human race in Starship Troopers. And was really mean to pretty much everyone in The Shawshank Redemption. His name is Clancy Brown – Clarence J. Brown III if you want to get specific - and he is awesome.

Menacing tough guy, loveable nice guy, he's voiced a merman, Sasquatch, Lex Luthor, plus a character called Mr. Krabs. He even squared up to The Statham in last year's Homefront and lived to tell the tale.

In short, he's the best kind of supporting actor. Any film he's in gets better whenever he's on screen. That's certainly the case with Nothing Left to Fear, the film he's on the other end of a phone to promote.

The Walking Dead's Kennedy Brice Stares Down Demons in June
Fending off walkers is one thing, but battling the supernatural? Unless you're Sam and Dean Winchester, that can be a real bitch. Still, somebody's got to do it, and as proven in the past, the devil and his minions don't care how young or old you are.

The word has come that "The Walking Dead's" Kennedy Brice (pictured) will be starring in the supernatural thriller June. L. Gustavo Cooper (Copiii: The 1st Entry and Velvet Road) will direct based on a script by Sharon Y. Cobb and Cooper.

Gregor Habsburg (Hellbenders) and Duane A. Sikes are on board to produce alongside Raven Banner partners Michael Paszt, James Fler, and Andrew T Hunt.

Shooting is scheduled for early spring.

Synopsis

June is a horror story about an innocent 9-year-old orphan girl who shares her body with Aer, an ancient supernatural being whose mission is to destroy mankind to allow nature to prevail on earth.

Watch: Acclaimed Thriller 'Blue Ruin' Official Trailer with Macon Blair
"I'd forgive you if you were crazy, but you're not..." Radius-twc has finally debuted a full trailer for Blue Ruin, the slow burn revenge thriller that has received endless praise from critics at numerous film festivals. It premiered in Cannes, played at Tiff, and is currently playing at Sundance. I saw it at Tiff and called it "one of the best damn revenge films of 2013." Macon Blair (Gretchen, 7 Couches, Hellbenders) stars as a "mysterious outsider" whose life life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. It's brutal and bloody, but a sleek thriller, one of the best I caught last year. This trailer gives a good impression of the tone of the film, but there's much more to it than it shows. Take a look. Here's the teaser trailer for Jeremy Saulnier's Blue Ruin, direct from Apple via...

Watch: First Trailer for Dan Fogler's Mental, Indie Comedy 'Don Peyote'
After taking parts in studio fare like Kung Fu Panda, Take Me Home Tonight, Love Happens and Fanboys, funnyman Dan Fogler has been more low key in indie releases like Hellbenders and Scenic Route. Now he's back with another indie, but this one he co-wrote and directs. Don Peyote stars Fogler as Warren Allman, a man who takes a steep descent into madness as he attempts to unravel the fabric of status-quo society. What's cool is that Fogler got friends and previous co-stars like Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, Topher Grace and Josh Duhamel to pop up, and you can see them in the first trailer. Watch it below! Here's the first trailer for Dan Fogler's Don Peyote, originally from Yahoo: Don Peyote is directed by Dan Fogler (star of Take Me Home Tonight, Fanboys, Scenic Route) who co-wrote the script with Michael Canzoniero (Wedding Bros.) The film follows Warren...

David Moscow in Honey: La Reina Del Baile (2003)
25 Years After Playing Young Tom Hanks in 'Big,' David Moscow Looks Back on Child Stardom, Penny Marshall's Direction, and The Making of a Classic
David Moscow in Honey: La Reina Del Baile (2003)
The second audition of David Moscow's career involved Penny Marshall, Robert De Niro, and a script about a 12-year-old Jersey boy who wishes "to be big." Though De Niro passed on the role made iconic by Tom Hanks, "Big" became the most recognized film on Moscow's career resume. "Personally and professionally, it was a complete change," Moscow said in a recent interview marking the classic comedy's 25th anniversary. "At that period of time I was 12, and my mom would be scolding me for being bad on the street, and then suddenly people would come up to me and be like, 'Hey, can I have your autograph?' ... It was a wild time, it was a wild way to be introduced into the business."  Moscow has since turned his focus from acting. He produced indie horror comedy "Hellbenders" ("'Ghostbusters meets 'The Hangover'"), which premiered during Tiff 2012's Midnight Madness screening series,...

J.T. Petty’s Hellbenders Puts a New Twist on Demon Hunting Next Year
Director J.T. Petty’s horror/comedy “Hellbenders” is finally hitting home video next year. Although it’s arriving a little later than some fans had hoped, at least they can now mark an official date on their calendars. I have a hunch that this one might be worth the wait. However, that’s not a money-back guarantee. Sorry, folks. Fans who decide to pick up the flick on Blu-ray can enjoy the 3D version of “Hellbenders.” If you haven’t made that jump to high-definition just yet, then you’ll have to settle for the two-dimensional edition. Depending on how you feel about 3D, that’s either a really good or a really bad thing. The choice, for what I understand, is entirely yours. Here’s what the film is all about: An official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, Hellbenders was written and directed by Jt Petty (The Burrowers). Clifton Collins,...

Hellbenders Blu-ray / DVD Release Date and Cover Art
Lionsgate has announced plans for a Hellbenders Blu-ray / DVD release in February. Here’s a look at the official cover art and the list of bonus features:

“Pray that you’ll never need the professional services of the Hellbound Saints of Brooklyn Parish. Resembling members of a raucous fraternity rather than the Catholic Church, this ragtag group of priests lives in a constant state of debauchery: smoking, drinking and philandering as if in a contest to top each other’s efforts in breaking the seven deadly sins as flamboyantly as possible. Fronted by Angus (Clancy Brown of Highlander and The Burrowers), their dysfunctional leader, they are the Church’s last best hope. When a regular exorcism just won’t do the trick, they’re called in to trap a demon and drag it down to hell with them.

However, in order to be ready for fire and brimstone, the men...

Giant Wasps Cause Havoc in New Stung Stills
A stack of new stills have materialised from Benni Diez's new directorial debut creature feature 'Stung'. For those who enjoy a good old fashioned giant insect yarn will be in their element when this bad boy is unleashed onto audiences next year. The new stills focus mainly on our two main leads Paul and Julia, played by 'Brick' and 'In Time' star Matt O'Leary and the stunning model turned actress Jessica Cook. They also feature co-stars Clifton Collins Jr. ('Hellbenders') and a very aged looking Lance Henriksen ('Aliens'). Diez directs from a script provided by Adam Aresty and you can check out the new images below....

Hellbenders 3D Review
While I’ll admit the idea of turning clergymen and women into lying, cheating, cursing, fornicating, debaucherous sinners generates quite the image, Hellbenders 3D unfortunately couldn’t follow through with the goods. Starring a cast comprised of the best “Hey, I’ve seen him before!” type actors, writer/director J.T. Petty somehow missed the target with his religious shocker, delving into a secret team of “hellbound” men of God without much interest.

It’s a one trick pony that presents some pretty hilarious moments if handled as a short, but without establishing any real type of threat, and simply hinting at intense amounts of gore-latent satanic happenings, we spend far too much time watching our team of demon killers simply sitting around and lazily slugging whiskey. If that’s what you consider entertainment, you have a free invitation to my Tuesday night activities.

You know those secret government agencies who carry out the dirtiest,...

Year of the Living Dead (2013)
Interview With Larry Fessenden, Producer Of 'Birth Of The Living Dead'
Year of the Living Dead (2013)
Director, writer, producer, and actor Larry Fessenden has slogged his way to becoming a prominent force in the horror genre over the course of more than two decades. His first film to really start turning heads was the provocative thriller No Telling (1991). He secured his place on the horror film map by writing, directing, and starring in the gritty vampire nightmare Habit (1995), which was followed by Wendigo (2001) and The Last Winter (2006).

His acting roles have ranged from brief glimpses in films like Martin Scorsese's Bringing Out The Dead (1999), Brad Anderson's Session 9 (2001), Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers (2005), and Neil Jordan’s The Brave One (2007), to leading roles in Glenn McQuaid's I Sell The Dead (2008) and Chad Crawford Kinkle's Jug Face (2013). Fessenden can also be spotted in this year's You’re Next, directed by Adam Wingard, Hellbenders, directed by J.T. Petty, and We Are What We Are,...

Exclusive Interview with J.T. Petty, Clancy Brown and Clifton Collins Jr. of Hellbenders 3D
Exorcism movies don’t get anymore audacious (or fun) than J.T. Petty’s latest, Hellbenders 3D, which arrives on VOD platforms everywhere today. The story follows a group of priests known as the “Hellbound Saints” whose jobs it is to rid the world of demonic forces, even if it means they must drag them down to hell themselves.

During a recent press day for the horror/comedy hybrid, Daily Dead spoke with Petty and the film’s co-stars, Clancy Brown and Clifton Collins Jr., about their experiences working on the project, what inspired Petty to take such an off-beat take on what’s usually a very traditional world, and much more about Hellbenders 3D.

Daily Dead: This is definitely one of the more unique exorcism films I’ve experienced. What inspired the story and your approach to creating the Hellbound Saints?

J.T. Petty: Right around the time I had the idea for Hellbenders 3D,...

Shock Interview: J.T. Petty, Clancy Brown & Clifton Collins, Jr. on Hellbenders
Not many interviews I attend take place at a bar.  That needs to change.

Imagine the setting: An empty Irish pub.  Director J.T. Petty sitting at a table with actors Clancy Brown and Clifton Collins, Jr.  And lurking nearby, a handful of assistants, studio reps and publicist.  Want liquor?  Sure, they'll make that happen. Anything to make the interview go smooth.  But even without the whiskey that floats my way, the interview would have rolled along just fine.  Petty, Brown and Collins are terrific guys to chat with.

They've come together to discuss Hellbenders 3D, which is getting a limited theatrical run and a VOD release starting today (October 18th).

The horror-comedy follows the Order of Hellbound Saints (Brooklyn Parish), a highly secretive and profoundly blasphemous men of God, as they battle demonic forces too terrible to be cast out by traditional Vatican-approved methods.

Head inside for our chat which...

‘Hellbenders’ vs. Demons: An Exclusive Clip
“The Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints, a team of blasphemous ministers who live in a constant state of debauchery, work to drag the worst of demons back to Hell.” Hellbenders, which stars the likes of Clifton Collins Jr., Clancy Brown and Bubbles from The Wire (Andre Royo), seems like the exact sort of just right release for the October VOD season. While attending the midnight selection at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival, our own Nathan Adams said that Hellbenders “ends the reign of generic exorcism movies by injecting some raunchy jokes and sickening gore into its proceedings. No movie with a sex rabbit could be bad, could it?” No, my dear Nathan, it couldn’t. So with Hellbenders set for a VOD release this weekend, we’ve arranged a little taste of the foul-mouthed priests hunting demons-palooza for you, our ever-discerning and passionate readers. In the clip below, you’ll see as this Order of Hellbound Saints...

Hellbenders | Review
Hath No Fury: Petty’s Latest a 3D Misfire

Serving as a glaringly obvious example of the degradation of the horror genre via raunchy slapstick is J.T. Petty’s latest effort, the dismal, dull and doltish Hellbenders. Petty, an up and coming talent over the past several years, having cut his teeth on horror sequels and showing promise as a sort of poor man’s Ti West, here provides us with a regression of talent, ridiculously employing the use of 3D technology and only showing us that it’s simply a gimmick that merely masks the lack of substance on screen.

A down and out group of Catholic priests known as the Hellbound Saints of Brooklyn Parish specialize in exorcism and live like nasty, dirty fratboys in a house of extreme squalor and debauchery. Led by an extremely foulmouthed and dysfunctional Father Angus (Clancy Brown), the group abides by engaging...

Review: Hellbenders Raises a Little, Uh, Hell
"I'm a woman, and you're a Catholic. Everything I do is a sin." -- A taste of the in-your-face comedy on display in J.T. Petty's Hellbenders. Based upon the writer-director's own graphic novel, and pitched somewhere between The Evil Dead and Ghostbusters in tone, it follows a bunch of 'special-operations' Catholic priests who handle the exorcisms and hell-on-earth related anomalies that crop up in New York City from time to time. This motley squad, played by Clifton Collins Jr., Clancy "The Kurgan" Brown, Andre "Bubbles from The Wire" Royo, and Dan Fogler, are the 'nuclear option' for the the church when various dead-ites and demon-spawn walk the earth. If the demon cannot be conventionally exorcised, then the priest takes on the possession themselves, sacrifices their...
