Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Den of Thieves was a commercial success, earning just over $80 million at the worldwide box office against a $30 million production budget.

Lionsgate has announced that Law Abiding Citizen, which also stars Jamie Foxx, will receive a new 4K Blu-ray steel box coming tomorrow, May 20. Critics and audiences were severely split on the film upon release, leading to it earning a “rotten” 26% from the former and 75% from the latter on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Per Deadline, Alba is set to lead The Mark, a new action spy thriller from director Justin Chadwick. Written by Ronnie Christensen, The Mark follows Eden (Alba), an "enigmatic spy on a covert and dangerous mission. When Eden pulls single father Ben Dawson into her world of high-stakes espionage, his life is turned upside down," per the official synopsis. One day after learning that the upcoming Red Sonja movie has been rated “R” for “Strong/bloody violence,” Deadline has shared a new image along with additional information.

For starters, Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired Red Sonja, a new feature film adaptation of the comic books. A theatrical release is being planned here in the U.S. later this year.

M.J. Bassett (Ash vs. Evil Dead) directed the upcoming movie, with Matilda Lutz (Revenge) starring as the title character. Check out a badass new shot of Lutz’s Red Sonja above.

When Christian Gudegast's Den of Thieves hit theaters in 2018, it was met with mixed reviews. While some viewers praised the film's gritty action and Heat-inspired heist sequences, others criticized the film for its bloated runtime, generic and predictable plot, and underdeveloped characters. The result? A lukewarm 41% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fast-forward to exactly seven years later, and its sequel,Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, has debuted and also made its way onto streaming platforms. The sequel has managed to build upon the original, and, drawing on the positives of the first film, now boasts a more respectable 63% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Deadline reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films have snagged the U.S. distribution rights to Red Sonja, with the reboot looking to hit theaters later this year. A first-look image from Red Sonja was also released, depicting Matilda Lutz in full costume, metal bikini and all.

The description reads: “Captured. Chained. Forced to fight for survival. Red Sonja must battle her way through the blood-soaked pits of a tyrant’s empire and rally an army of outcasts to reclaim her freedom and take down Dragan and his ruthless bride, Dark Annisia.” In addition to Lutz, Red Sonja also stars Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), Wallis Day (Batwoman), Martyn Ford (Those About to Die), Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves), with Phillip Winchester (Strike Back) and Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead).

The film was recently given an R-rating for “strong/bloody violence.“

The new action film serves as a sequel to the 2018 film Den of Thieves. Butler reprises his role alongside O'Shea Jackson Jr., with Christian Gudegast returning to write and direct. Following the film's recent release on Netflix, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has become a hit on the platform, Tudum reports.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera ended its theatrical run on Feb. 20, and it was released on Netflix on Mar. 20, only a month after. It didn't take long for the heist action movie to make an impression because the movie premiered in third spot globally for the week between Mar. 17 and 23.

Upon rolling up to the aftermath of a deadly shoot-out at a local breakfast joint, the profoundly ethically-questionable Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Detective then proceeds to casually pick up and munch down on a frosted donut from a blood-splattered box on the ground.

Big Nick is a lot like the movie around him. Written and directed by Christian Gudegast, 2018's "Den of Thieves" is a sleazy, booze-soaked tale of badly-behaved cops and charismatic robbers that's both extremely derivative (it's "Heat" with a hangover) and so aggressively heterosexual (between all the machismo and gun fetishizing on display) it comes off as homoerotic, but that's also part of the charm. It was an unexpected hit to boot, pulling in more than $80 million at the box office on a $30 million budget in theaters.

There's no denying that Den of Thieves has become a phenomenon. Seven years after the original film, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera arrived to further the story of "Big Nick" O'Brien and Donnie Wilson, which was an accomplishment unto itself. But then audiences responded to the long-awaited sequel with impressive box office receipts, and Lionsgate ordered a third movie. And now Den of Thieves 2 is still sitting in the Netflix Top 10.

In an interview with Cbr, stars Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. gave their reaction to Den of Thieves becoming a universe. They also discussed revisiting their characters after several years away. What were the challenges they faced in rediscovering Big Nick and Donnie for the second time, especially since there's not such an extended gap between the two movies in-universe?
