This short, sardonically titled movie is mildly entertaining, and on repeat viewings it is also less off-putting and a little more amusing than it seems at first. It is also of some significance as one of a good number of features of the era that deliberately resorted to risqué material, contrary to the perceptions of those who have little acquaintance with the earliest years of cinema.
The whole story is about a very bulky woman's struggles to put on her corset. The gag ideas are of course the predictable ones, and they are at best only slightly amusing in themselves. The woman's husband loyally assists her in these efforts, and this adds a somewhat different tone.
It may be less noticeable than the overt pokes at the woman's size, but the couple share an obvious closeness with one another, despite the offbeat challenge they are facing. Whether this was intentional or not, it gives the movie an additional dimension. The main point is not to ridicule the woman for her weight, but to show a mildly entertaining domestic situation that the couple faces together.

This short Blue movie is an example of how very scandalous situations at the time look harmless today. This is one of the less risque shorts 'Blue' genre that I've seen. Instead of a striptease (which still DOES look a little offensive) this movie centers around a fat woman trying to get on a corset. She can't do it so she calls her husband to help her. After zillions of viewings I realized something: the woman isn't wearing anything underneath her partially see-through skirt. Or at least it appears. So while the situation looks innocent enough now, it's actually lots more risque than it seems.

Airy Fairy Lillian Tries on Her New Corsets (1905)
*** (out of 4)
This 58-second short from Biograph is your typical "Blue" movie for the period. An obese woman is trying to get her corset on but she's too big so she asks for the help of a man. There's certainly nothing ground-breaking in this film but it's slightly entertaining as long as you're a film buff who enjoys watching these early movies. At under a minute there's really not too much here except for the woman trying to get this corset on but it remains entertaining simply because of the history behind it. I'm not sure how much this woman was paid but I can't imagine she's ever think that over a hundred years later people would be watching her. It's funny watching films like this because you have to think kids sneaking nickles into these mutoscope viewers led to quite a bit of censorship.
