We Still Deserve a ‘Demon Slayer’ Spin-Off for the Only Group That Stole the Show From Tanjiro
Image
We can all agree that Demon Slayer is a straight-up phenomenon! Watching Tanjiro save Nezuko and fight Muzan freaking hit us hard while those exquisite visuals are equally great. But even though Tanjiro is pivotal to the story, it is the Hashira who somehow steal the spotlight whenever they show up.

And the reason? They are totally badass demon slayers, made even cooler by their Breathing Styles and tragic pasts. We get to see moments like Rengoku’s fiery aura and Shinobu’s sneaky revenge.

But those are just quick flashbacks, and we need more! So, a spinoff would broaden the world of Demon Slayer, while allowing the Hashira to shine, and not just be members of Tanjiro’s crew.

Their backstories deserve more development

Each of the Hashira has their own stories, which are gut-wrenching or tear-jerking, but we were only left with fragments. Giyu is still shattered after losing Sabito,...

I’m Still Upset at ‘Demon Slayer’ for Wasting the Potential of the Butterfly Mansion
Image
Demon Slayer might be a short series compared to the more famous ones, but the sheer amount of plot lines Koyoharu Gotouge has included says otherwise. Many characters I wanted them to explore further were inevitably left behind, giving space for the main characters who will naturally shine more.

The wasted potential of some of these characters, however, is downright criminal. A famous example of this was Doma. When we heard about his cult, I believed it would become an arc of its own in Demon Slayer, but nothing came out of that piece of information. He’s barely seen otherwise, a pattern we witness with other characters.

When confronted with the question of which character is the most underutilized in Demon Slayer, the most common answer was the members of the Butterfly Mansion, specifically Kanae Kocho and Kanao Tsuyuri. While Shinobu got the spotlight, the rest had no solid purpose in the storyline.

Despite Alarming Talent Exits Like Gawr Gura, Hololive Continues to Dominate YouTube in 2025
Image
As a certain anime shark girl would say, "Hololive only grows stronger." Despite the accelerating loss of high-profile talents, such as Gawr Gura and Nanashi Mumei, Hololive continued to dominate the VTuber streaming industry in early 2025.

Streams Charts, an analytics website that tracks online trends and viewership, published its latest statistical findings for the first quarter of 2025. With the help of Vstats, Streams Charts reported significant details and observations about online streamers, particularly Virtual YouTubers, who commonly dominate platforms like YouTube and Twitch. Despite a slight dip in Q3 2024, the VTuber industry continued to grow compared to the previous year through early 2025. The most noteworthy achievement was the surpassing of 500 million hours watched for the first time in history. What makes this achievement so incredible is that it was accomplished at a time when there are fewer content creators than there were two years ago. The milestone was made possible...

“Better performing than Mitsuri”: ‘Demon Slayer’ was Gatekeeping Some of Its Most Explorable Characters
Image
In the Demon Slayer universe, fans are accustomed to big and flashy fights, jaw-droppingly intense animation, and powerful characters with just as captivating backstories. But sometimes, it’s the side characters—the ones with barely any screen time who end up leaving the biggest impressions.

And that’s exactly the case with Kanae Kocho, the older sister of Shinobu and the former Flower Hashira. Kanae is, without a doubt, one of the kindest and most humane characters in all of Demon Slayer.

Kanae Kocho and her sister | Credit: Studio Ufotable

Characters like Rengoku steal a lot of screen time, deservedly so, but Kanae, who’s clearly had “fan favorite” written all over her, did not get anywhere near the attention she deserved. It felt like her death was the only thing that merited time, and the narrative quickly switched focus onto Shinobu, Kanae’s sister.

Kanae was an excellently written,...

No One Writes Female Characters Like Koyoharu Gotouge Because of ‘Demon Slayer’s’ Unique Representation
Image
Demon Slayer often gets flak for being solely carried by its animation, which isn’t true at all, especially when we consider other aspects of the series. The animation is superb, yes, but there are other charms as well. It is true for its gripping storyline, engaging fights, and well-written characters.

We don’t give Demon Slayer enough credit for its fleshed-out and layered characters, be they demons or Hashiras. Gotouge went the extra mile with characterization. Their backstories and entire development within the story are well-thought-out however, this also extends to the mangaka’s writing of female characters.

Tanjiro and Nezuko from Demon Slayer | [Credit: Ufotable]

From their backstories to their personalities, women exist beyond the frontiers of conventional representation in the series. They’re not restricted to the therapist, mother, and maid archetype; there’s more to it. The characterization itself is a critical lens into the shonen world through the mangaka’s view.

‘Demon Slayer’ Has Already Given Away a Major Infinity Castle Spoiler Because of Its Poster
Image
Now this is quite interesting, or maybe even heartbreaking for a lot of fans. The news went viral when people got to know the upcoming Demon Slayer anime installment will completely change its episodic release format while adapting the manga’s one of the most hyped arcs, the Infinity Castle Arc!

According to some Japanese reports, we can expect to see a new movie every two years, with a total of 3 movies spanning the duration of a whopping 6 years!

A still from the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trailer | Credit: Studio Ufotable

However, the sad part is that amidst all the hype surrounding it, one major loophole has already been found in its marketing strategy. While the manga readers can easily see what’s going on, anime-only fans have no idea! They didn’t need to do the fans dirty with such an obvious promotional poster.

Spoiler Alert !!!Potential spoilers from...

Image
The following contains spoilers for Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 10, "We Need a Hero."

Solo Leveling Season 2’s subtitle is “Arise From the Shadow”, and Sung Jinwoo has done exactly that. Jinwoo started out Season 2 as false-ranker hiding his power in the shadows, but he's since arisen through the ranks to be recognized as an S Rank Hunter – and one of the strongest in South Korea, at that. In his rise to prominence, Sung Jinwoo has endured all manner of obstacles and survived difficult battles, but, as suggested by the title of Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 11 (Episode 23 overall), “It’s Going to Get Even More Intense”.

Solo Leveling has officially reached its most highly anticipated arc, as Season 2, Episode 10 set the fourth mission into Jeju Island in motion. While things went smoothly enough at first, the episode took a dark turn in its final moments, leaving the fate of not only Korea’s S Ranks,...

10 Things About the Bleach Franchise That Only Make Sense to Manga Readers
Image
Tite Kubo's Bleach series is one of the cornerstones of modern shōnen anime storytelling. The series still continues to influence current titles, like Jujutsu Kaisen and includes a memorable cast of characters. The series' story and lore are just as comprehensive as it is enjoyable. But if you follow the anime, not everything may make as much sense as it does in the manga.

Despite recent seasons being more faithful to the source material, inconsistencies between the anime and manga's versions of events can still confuse fans. These differences may seem minor, but they can still affect how certain events play out in the series. This is especially troublesome for fans experiencing the series for the first time. These misconceptions can lead to confusion related to certain characters and their place in the story.

The following article contains major spoilers for the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle ArcDemon Slayer delivers some of the most emotionally devastating deaths in modern anime, even before the Infinity Castle arc significantly escalates the story's stakes. The series doesn’t just introduce characters and dispose of them — many losses are heavy, leaving a lasting impact on both the surviving characters and the audience. From fallen Hashira to tragic family massacres, each death carries emotional depth, ensuring that no departure feels hollow or excessive.

The balance between action and heartbreak keeps the stakes high, making every battle feel consequential. Every Hashira’s Fate At The End Of Demon Slayer, Ranked By Sadness
Image
The following contains major spoilers for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, by Koyoharu Gotouge, available in English through Viz Media.

Demon Slayer's nine active Hashira are humanity's last line of defense against the vicious demons that rule the night. It's not an easy job, and only the best of the best can take on this prestigious mantle. As such, the only way to become a Hashira is to kill at least 50 demons or defeat one of Muzan's overpowered Demon Moons. A Hashira can also choose their successor—or Tsugoku—by carefully selecting them from the Corps' most skilled members.

In other words, they are powerful individuals capable of fighting the strongest of Muzan's demons, demonstrating their overwhelming strength in recent anime seasons. Unfortunately, many of these fan-favorite characters met brutal, untimely demises in Demon Slayer, even if they did manage to secure victory against their respective opponents.

10 Bleach Relationships That Deserved More Love
Image
Over time, the hit anime Bleach developed all kinds of relationships among its many characters, from shonen-style rivalries and friendships to romantic involvement and more. Some relationships got their due and became franchise staples, such as Ichigo's strong friendship with Rukia and Kenpachi's protective feelings about Yachiru, but other relationships and bonds didn't get their due.

Some relationships in the series were given just enough screen time to make their point and fill in a piece of the lore, but those bonds deserved a little more. In most cases, that's because the bonds in question were heartfelt, meaningful relationships that could have added more emotional depth to the characters or showed a new side to one or both characters involved. This included familial blood ties, friendships, and even some would-be romances.

Demon Slayer Doma Cosplay Seriously Impresses With Subtle Details
Image
Demon Slayer's Doma is one of the series' most horrific villains of all time. His influence on the story is often underrated, but he is responsible for some of the goriest, most difficult-to-stomach kills in the entire series. As the Upper Rank Two, he is a crucial member of Lord Muzan's Twelve Kizuki and one of the franchise's most cutthroat, cold, and emotionless evildoers, hurting and killing humans with zero remorse.

@kuroni_ravenia has portrayed the Demon Slayer villain looking a disturbing blend of both elegant and terrifying. They are wearing a crimson red shirt with a black design that looks like blood dripping and a matching red hat with a similar black dripping design, tying the two pieces together fashionably. Their wide leg pants are white and black striped, with a golden belt holding them up. @kuroni_ravena is also wearing a purple and black vest-like garment, draped...

Demon Slayer's Shinobu Character Guide
Image
The Demon Slayer anime series generally relies on the classic power of friendship and love as the heroes push themselves to defeat the demons whom they swore to destroy. Most of the elite Hashira do that too, but there is a distinct exception: Shinobu Kocho, the official Insect Hashira. Shinobu actually goes against the grain in many ways in Demon Slayer's story, creating a character arc unlike any other in this shonen anime.

Ever since her introduction in the Mount Natagumo story arc in Season 1, Shinobu has been the odd one out among the Hashira and has been a contradictory character in fascinating and meaningful ways. Shinobu may have the same duty has her fellow Hashira and other slayers, but the way she goes about it seemingly breaks all the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. Due to her past expriences and physical strength, that's simply who Shinobu Kocho needed to be,...

Bleach's Fullbringer Arc Foreshadowed This Character's Actions in Thousand Year Blood War
Image
As the drama escalates in the Thousand-Year Blood War, several characters make decisions pivotal Bleach's plot. Among them, Uryu Ishida has set out on his own to join the main villain in an abrupt and confusing turn of events. This wasn't a choice that he communicated with anyone else, and considering what he learned about his mother's death, it doesn't make much sense. However, Uryu has sworn himself to Yhwach and managed to become heir to the Quincy empire.

While Uryu's choices seem nonsensical and almost out of character at first glance, they do have some backing to them. In fact, looking at how the Lost Substitute Soul Reaper arc played out, Uryu's actions are explained. Uryu didn't play a huge role in the Fullbringer arc, but he still had his own character moments. He was taken out first in the friend group in order to inspire a sense...

How Many Hashira Died In Demon Slayer?
Image
As the last bastion of humanity against the demons skulking in the night, the breath-powered warriors of Demon Slayer belong to an association devoted to the eradication of Muzan Kibutsuji's legion of monsters. Among the demon slayers are the Hashira, elites who stand near the top of the hierarchy as the strongest fighters in the Demon Slayer Corp. When they're first introduced, they are depicted as nigh-undefeatable powerhouses.

Unfortunately, death is an inevitability for all demon hunters not even the Hashira, as strong as they are, are safe from an early grave. Those who watched the Mugen Train Arc are already painfully aware of the Flame Hashira's death, but he was not the last of them to perish in Demon Slayer. As the manga drew to a close and Muzan Kibutsuji was placed on the ropes, various Hashira began to drop like flies in the face of the demon lord and his strongest champions.

One Mysterious Demon Slayer Character Explains A Crucial Infinity Castle Moment

Former Flower Hashira Kanae Kocho's tragic death at the hands of Doma greatly impacted her sisters. Kanae was a powerful, kind-hearted demon slayer who taught her sisters valuable skills. Shinobu and Kanao's intense hatred of Doma stems from seeking justice for Kanae's death.

Demon Slayer: Even Having One of the Strongest Hashira Alive Wouldn’t Have Stopped Doma From Completely Eradicating the Kochou Sisters

The anime series Demon Slayer is based on Koyohariu Gotpuge’s manga, which draws a line between humans and demons, who have been at each other’s throats for centuries. Fans have wondered about the possible outcome of one of the popular slayers. Kanae Kocho, a daunting Hashira, is centrally placed in this scenario, and her confrontation with the Upper Moon Two, Doma.

A debate on this has sparked an argumentative theory that says even if Kanae had survived her first clash with Doma, she might not have been able to protect herself or her sisters during the ultimate battle. This situation has hypothetically created a difference in demonic power and human limits.

Bleach: Uryu Ishida Character Guide
Image
Quick Links What is Uryu Ishida's Family History? What Are Uryu Ishida's Friendships and Rivalries? What Are Uryu Ishida's Powers and Weapons? What Are Some Other Facts About Uryu Ishida?

Bleach is a shonen "big three" title that, like the other two, features a massive cast of characters while giving the most screen time to the main squad of heroes. That means charcters like Ichigo Kurosaki, Orihime Inoue, Chad, and Uryu Ishida are all gifted with incredible story arcs and rich development all throughout the manga's and anime's runs. While Ichigo is the main shonen star, there's also plenty to love about Uryu Ishida, and at times, he felt like a true shonen protagonist himself.

Uryu Ishida was introduced early in Bleach's story as a would-be nemesis of Ichigo's, determined to uphold the bitter Soul Reaper/Quincy feud that had endured for centuries. Before long, though, Uryu became one...

Demon Slayer: All 9 Hashira, Ranked Weakest to Strongest
Image
The Hashira of Demon Slayer are the strongest demon slayers, each with unique styles and techniques, making it difficult to rank them solely based on raw power. The lower-ranked Hashira compensate for their lack of physical strength with special tricks and abilities, proving that they are not weak. Among the Hashira, Gyomei Himejima is recognized as the strongest, showcasing immense strength and being respected as the leader of the group.

The Hashira of Demon Slayer are considered the strongest demon slayers within the show, having achieved the highest rank within the Demon Slayer Corps. Each of the Hashira are named with special titles that reflect their unique styles and fighting techniques, and each relies on different aspects of their style to slay demons, ranging from speed and cunning to pure strength. Ranking the Hashira by strength is thus a difficult task, as their approaches can be so different.

The Hashira...

Tokyo Ghoul's Darkest Villains
Image
Tokyo Ghoul is a dark and twisted fantasy anime where humans live in fear of super-powered humanoids called ghouls that feed on humans to survive. When series protagonist Kaneki Ken survives an attack, he becomes a half-ghoul and finds that he must now consume flesh to survive like the wicked ghouls that humanity has grown to hate.

With such a morbid premise, it's no surprise that Tokyo Ghoul is a controversial anime that's been banned in several countries, and its dark story often comments on and criticizes the nature of humanity. This allows Tokyo Ghoul's villains to go beyond mere mindless flesh-eating monsters, and the darkest villains are some of the series' most complex, adding valuable layers and intricacy to the story when it needs it most.

All 14 Demon Slayer Breathing Styles, Ranked by Power
Image
Warning! Spoilers for the Demon Slayer manga series.

Demon Slayer has 14 unique Breathing Styles, each with varying strengths and weaknesses. The rankings of the styles are based on battle success, versatility, and difficulty of use. Sun Breathing is considered the most powerful, with Moon Breathing being exclusive to a top demon.

The Breathing Styles in Demon Slayer are a big part of the series' appeal, especially in the anime, where they've been beautifully brought to life. Prospective Demon Slayers must train in at least one style in order to be recognized officially, and it's possible for a Slayer to use two or more styles. Each style is unique, and there are quite a few of them–14, to be exact. Many of these styles are only utilized by a single character in the entire series, making those signature styles almost part of the character.

In considering the strength of a style,...

Yôko Maki
Film Review: Undercurrent (2023) by Rikiya Imaizumi
Yôko Maki
“Kanae (Yoko Maki) struggles to manage her family's bathhouse after her husband, Satoru (Eita Nagayama), suddenly vanishes. She is often possessed by his memories, as well as memories from her childhood that she cannot recall. One day, Takayuki (Arata Iura), a boiler man, comes seeking work and shelter, which Kanae agrees to offer.” (Official)

Undercurrent is Screening as Part of The 2024 Japan Foundation Touring Program

Offering a synopsis only provides a starting point to the work of Rikiya Imaizumi, who, as the press material for the lead-up to the film touring as part of Japan Foundation states, “skilfully portrays the emotions that have long been locked away in people's hearts.” Extending on this concept, “Undercurrents” lingers in that moment of release, making the expression of one's inner emotions not as crucial as stating them. Much of the movie is left open as major questions brought up by characters to others...

10 Yuri Manga That Deserve An Anime Adaptation
Image
While gay and lesbian relationships have become more and more common in mainstream media in the last couple of years, manga has featured sexual and gender-diverse characters for decades. Since this genre pioneered LGBTQ+ love stories, some of the best lesbian romances out there come from yuri. Unfortunately, these titles remain in obscurity because they haven't gotten an anime adaptation.

Whether it is because they have incredibly relatable characters or very original premises, these series offer some of the best sapphic romances in manga. Series like Maka-Maka, Miyuki-Chan In Wonderland, or Gunjō have the potential to be great anime if a studio picks them up.

Film Review: Three Sisters of Tenmasou (2022) by Ryuhei Kitamura
Image
Ryuhei Kitamura has had a rather interesting career. Starting with some of the cult titles of the 00s, including “Versus”, “Azumi” and “LoveDeath”, he then shot a Godzilla and a “Lupin The Third” film, then he moved to Hollywood to shoot films with Ruby Rose and Jean Reno among others, and now he is back with “Three Sisters of Tenmasou”, a manga adaptation that shows his most sensitive side as of now.

Three Sisters of Tenmasou is screening at Japan Cuts

The particular manga is “Tenmasou no Sanshimai: Sky High” by Tsutomu Takahashi (published from 2013 to 2014 by Young Jump Comics) and revolves around the said inn, a quaint out-of-time place in the small port town of Mitsuse. The establishment functions as a stopping point for people on the verge of death to decide if they want to return to the world of the living, where they are in a coma from an accident or illness,...

Demon Slayer: Why Shinobu Kocho is the Worst Hashira So Far
Image
Demon Slayer is a shonen action series with a strong emotional core, mainly centered around protagonist Tanjiro Kamado's sympathetic quest to restore Nezuko's humanity and Tanjiro's generous compassion for the demons he slays. Best of all, many of the Hashira are the same way and support Tanjiro personally, but Shinobu Kocho is an exception.

Shinobu Kocho certainly has her own sympathetic side, having lost her beloved big sister Kanae to a demon years ago, but she's too consumed by her self-centered thirst for revenge to do much more than fight demons in retaliation. While Kyojuro Rengoku, Tengen Uzui, and Mitsuri Kanroji have said and done much to support Tanjiro as a person and as a fighter, Shinobu lags behind – marking her as the least compelling Hashira so far.

Demon Slayer Pillars Ranked From Weakest To Most Powerful
Image
In the universe of Demon Slayer, the Demon Slayer Corps contains some of the most powerful humans alive, but even they have their heavy-hitters. Known as the Hashira (literally translated as "Pillars"), these swordmasters possess skills and abilities that would make even the most powerful demons cower at the thought of a one-on-one battle.

Each Hashira is a master of a different Breathing Style, making their powers a bit difficult to compare at times. One can't help but wonder, though: which of these Hashira are the strongest of them all? Fans will continue to debate the issue for eternity, but here's one ranking of every Hashira seen in the series, going from least to most powerful. This list is based on the manga, so there may be spoilers for anime viewers!

How it Feels to Be Killed by Demon Slayer's Breathing Styles
Image
The following contains spoilers for Demon Slayer, by Koyoharu Gotouge, available to read on Viz Media and streaming on Crunchyroll.

With every new Demon Slayer arc, one thing is always guaranteed-- an epic showdown between a Hashira and an overpowered demon. The "Mugen Train" arc saw Rengoku take on Upper Moon 3, Tengen defeated an Upper Moon 6 in the Entertainment District, and back in the first season, Giyu helped Tanjiro defeat Rui. With each demon's demise, a new Breathing Style was introduced, but how does each technique vary?

Information from The Demon Slaying Corp's Info Book, by Mangaka Koyoharu Gotouge, confirms that each technique feels different when used. A section of the book called "Interview with the Demons from Hell: Voices from Beyond the Sanzu River," shows a demon slayer named Gotou interviewing numerous demons on how it felt being slain by a certain breathing style. Conversations with familiar demons revealed the differences between each technique.
