Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel superheroes ever created, which means he's had no shortage of adaptations over the course of the years. However, there will be no better time to be a fan of the web-slinger than 2026. Next year will see the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday (in which we hope Peter Parker appears), and, of course, the first-ever live-action Spider-Man Noir adaptation.
Nicholas Cage will portray a darker and more violent version of Peter Parker who isn't afraid to use guns in the MGM+ and Amazon Prime series. Expectation was already at an all-time high given that the beloved actor did a flawless job voicing Spider-Man Noir in the Spider-Verse saga. But to take things a step further, set pictures of the live-action adaptation revealed that the wall-crawler is set to sport a comic-book accurate look, which...

I seem to spend an awful lot of time on this website talking about Nic Cage, but then again Nic Cage makes an awful lot of films so I guess its inevitable.
As I and others have said before, some of his movies are good and some of them are bad. Some of them are so awful they instantly start to rot your mind, but they are always at least interesting so thats why I for one keep watching them.
The Surfer is his latest and much like Longlegs, my primary advice is for anyone interested in it is to ignore all of the marketing immediately. The cult of Cage, Cage Rage, Caged Madness or whatever else you want to call it is now seemingly the primary tool used to sell all of the films made by the man whose birth name is Nicolas Kim Coppola, and who once had...

Nicholas Cage continues his recent exploration of the weird end of the cinematic pool, with The Surfer, a paranoid tale of crazy, nightmare-like incidents that takes the form of a recreation of a 1970’s B-movie Australian film, an homage to Australian New Age and Ozploitation films. Oddly, the film was made by a pair of Irishmen, director Lorcan Finnegan and screenwriter Thomas Martin, although it was shot on location in Australia. The writer and director share a love of Australian New Wave, also known as Ozploitation, and includes horror, comedy and thrillers examples, a style that includes both Walkabout and Mad Max. The Surfer is an ambitious film, referencing a John Cheever story, “The Swimmer,” and drawing on a real-life incident of a bullying gang of surfers in Southern California, who terrorized a public beach they claimed as their own, and...

Nicolas Cage is an enigma. He is one of the most fascinating actors of our time, and I say that with zero irony. Audiences have laughed at Cage’s over-the-top, quite often strange, performances for years, and he’s been memed to death at this point. What really sets him apart, however, is a complete rejection of the idea that acting should always be subtle and realistic.
He draws from all sorts of influences – German Expressionism, Japanese Kabuki theater – and even coined his style, Nouveau Shamanic. Watch his character reciting the alphabet in Vampire’s Kiss, and you’ll get a taste of what Cage is.
It’s easy to assume he is just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. For Leaving Las Vegas (1995), where he played a suicidal alcoholic, he studied alcoholism, filmed himself drinking to understand the physical effects, and brought a vulnerability to the role.

Spider-Noir is a series featuring Nicholas Cage as a spider themed private detective. Cage first played the character in Into the Spider-Verse, then reprised the role for Across the Spider-Verse and is expected to reprise the role in the third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse. It would make sense for the live action version of this character to be the same one featured in the animated movies, they are played by the same person after all, but there has been no official confirmation on this.
MGM+ is where the series will initially debut in the US, but will then become available on Amazon Prime Video globally. The series will have eight episodes and, while there aren’t a ton of details about it right now, the series is said to be a hard boiled detective story set in an alternate version of 1930s New York City where Nicholas Cage’s character is based.

The deluge of series and movies leaving Netflix in April is mostly over. The first week of every month is pretty brutal. A lot of favorites leave. Maybe you can catch them elsewhere, but that means subscribing to another service. That is no fun.
One of your favorites is bound to be going away in the next week. A classic children's show is going away immediately to start the new week.
But two films are dropping off your streaming list this week that you might have to catch immediately. The films are entirely different, somewhat odd, and one is a hidden gem. So, take some time this weekend and watch them before you say goodbye.

The restoration of ‘My Favourite Season’, a film released in 1985 and then largely forgotten or not even exhibited to audiences outside of Taiwan, gives Chen Ku-ho‘s work another chance to shine. The film offers a rather unusual take on the romantic comedy, by turning the generic structure on its head.
The two protagonists form a marriage of convenience, as the female lead, Liou Hsiang-mei (Sylvia Chang) becomes pregnant at the beginning of the story, and decides to find a husband so that the child could have a surname. The male character, Bi Bao-liang (Jonathan Chung-Shan) is initially reluctant to the idea: “I can’t date women younger than thirty”, he explains mysteriously. After a while, he warms to the idea and the two put pen to paper and sign a contract to become husband and wife for a year. Improbable as it sounds, the film’s exaggerated premise allows...

The world spins once on its axis and new movies come to Netflix. But with each new arrival, we must wave goodbye to something old.
I have no idea if there’s really a one-to-one ratio there, but it sounded good in my head.
In the first half of April, a quartet of excellent movies is among the remaining titles. If you haven’t seen any of them – or even if you have – you might want to catch these while you can.

Ever since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released, Sony has remained tight-lipped about its follow-up, other than to announce its indefinite delay. Just when excitement was at an all-time high to figure out how Miles Morales' trilogy would conclude, we were hit with a brick wall that seemed to have no end. There were no updates regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for many months, even when the movie was initially supposed to be released in March 2024. Rumors even indicated that a big creative reboot struck the project, and its future was heavily put into question. But just when silence was eating us alive, a big announcement finally came our way.

There were high expectations for the studio to showcase anything Spider-Man-related, and they delivered big time. Who would have thought that Guy Fieri, a TV personality and professional chef notorious for his frosted tips, would join superheroes like Batman and Superman on the front of DC comics? Does the comic have anything to do with Guy Fieri? Nope, but it’s still awesome.
The synopsis for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest reads:
“The Waves Crash! Superman and Batman have a code against killing… but does a king of Atlantis? As the Floronic Man makes his final play for dominion over the seas, Aquaman is forced to react as a warrior, not a superhero — and the consequences will surprise you!”

James Gunn seemingly reached the nerd mountaintop upon becoming the co-chairman (with Peter Safran) of DC Studios in 2022. Nearly 30 years before that, however, he was just another struggling screenwriter slugging it out in the film industry trenches. Gunn earned his first screenplay credit as the co-writer of Troma Entertainment's "Tromeo and Juliet," which was not the calling-card effort that put him on Hollywood's radar. That would be his script for "The Specials," a superhero comedy that became a film under the direction of Craig Mazin in 2000.
Before that film was even made, though, Gunn found himself pitching projects to the major studios, one of which was a Silver Surfer movie at 20th Century Fox. Gunn knocked out a treatment that he once claimed was a "huge story, cosmic as hell," and he might've hung around to write the screenplay had another project not been dropped on his doorstep.

Get ready for synth-fuelled action, old-school practical effects, and all-out extraterrestrial mayhem, because The Doom Busters is here to take you on a ride like no other. The brainchild of writer-director Jack McHenry (Here Comes Hell), and aided by composer Ben Pearson, this WWII sci-fi action comedy is what happens when Dad’s Army collides with Predator—a love letter to the high-concept blockbusters of the ‘70s and ‘80s, complete with buckets of blood, psychedelic visuals, and a battle to save the entire galaxy.
Set in 1940, as Britain braces for war, the film follows Arthur Roundtree, a Home Guard recruit desperate for action but stuck in a sleepy English village. His chance finally comes when an alien menace crash-lands nearby, turning a routine training exercise into a desperate fight for survival. The Surfer: Plot
The Surfer follows the story of a man who returns to his childhood home in Australia with his son in tow. Peacock has won the rights to develop Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas’ upcoming novel “Climbing in Heels” into a TV series, Variety has learned.
Peacock has given the drama project a script-to-series commitment. It was first reported in December that Universal TV was taking the show to market, with Goldsmith-Thomas and Darren Star set to serve as co-writers and executive producers.
“I am thrilled that ‘Climbing In Heels’ was taken off the table so quickly by Peacock,” Goldsmith-Thomas said. “It is the perfect home for Darren and I to bring these fabulously complicated and colorful characters to life”
The official description of the show states that it is “a fictional tale following the rise of five ambitious secretaries navigating the glitzy world of 1980s Hollywood while offering a glimpse into the boys-will-be-boys club and the women who wanted a seat at a table where they were expected to serve.”

Win or Lose, Pixar’s first long-format television series is funny, heartwarming, and one of the best pieces of entertainment the studio has produced in years. Yes, the little streaming series that could is that good.

Now December, and 2024, finished up with two such films, Mufasa: The Lion King which is a rare sequel/prequel in Disney’s series, and another adventure of the video game superstar, Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Like the latter, this new release is the third outing, and it also mixes a CGI-animated character in a live-action world. However, it also shares its origins with the current (for the last two weeks) box office champ Dog Man, which is based on a beloved series of children’s books. Now can the filmmakers score a rare “hat trick’ as the first sequel is so admired that it was ‘name-checked” at the end...

Nicholas Hoult has been on a bit of a run of late. Having lost the role of Batman to fellow Brit Robert Pattinson in "The Batman," the actor will soon play Lex Luthor in James Gunn's upcoming "Superman" after having similarly lost the lead role to David Corenswet. Still, not getting to play Superman almost makes Hoult the perfect Lex Luthor, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the actor does as the Man of Steel's most famous foe. In the lead up to that high-profile role, however, Hoult has been raising his profile and demonstrating his range with a slew of 2024 films that range from animated comedies to searing crime dramas.
After appearing alongside Nicholas Cage in the anticlimactic "Renfield" in 2023, Hoult seemingly went into 2024 determined to keep his career afloat. He voiced Jon Arbuckle in "Garfield," then starred in Clint Eastwood's legal thriller "Juror #2,...

Did Nicolas Cage choose to pass on Marvel? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Yep, Nicholas Cage doesn’t require some superhero mashup cooked up in a comic fan’s fever dream. Why? Simple. “I don’t need to be in the MCU. I’m Nic Cage.”
Mic drop. Curtain close. End of story.
But really, does Hollywood’s quirkiest chameleon need a Marvel gig? This is the man who’s been a treasure-hunting history buff (National Treasure), a flame-headed demon biker (Ghost Rider), and a self-aware version of himself (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent). He’s danced across genres like it’s a karaoke playlist, and somehow, it always works.
Still, Cage isn’t giving Marvel the cold shoulder. In fact, his bond with the superhero universe is deeper than you think. “I named myself after a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage,” he revealed. “Stan Lee is my surrealistic father.

Chris Isaak shared an emotional tribute to David Lynch on Friday, a day after the legendary director died at age 78.
“I knew he was sick but I hoped he might make a comeback,” Isaak wrote on X. “I feel lucky for all the time I got to spend with him, he was one of a kind. He was so smart, so creative, and he had a way of being very honest and direct that reminded me of how kids say things…innocent without doubletalk or bumpers.”

Kathy Bates recently told a relatable story to Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) on his Dinner's On Me podcast (via TheWrap) when both she and fellow Oscar winner Meryl Streep lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2003: They drowned their sorrows with vodka at the bar.
“It was a very Joan Crawford-Bette Davis moment. She slammed her evening bag down on the bar and said, ‘I’m having a vodka, straight, neat,’ and I slammed my evening bag down, I said, ‘I’m having what she’s having,’ and we tossed it. It was a moment.”
Zeta-Jones won the Oscar for Chicago, playing Velma Kelly. The film also won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Art Direction, and Best Film Editing. Meanwhile, Bates was nominated for her role as Roberta Hertzel in About Schmidt, a film that features Jack Nicholson playing completely against type. Streep...

2024 was a great year for cinema. Blockbuster triumphs like Dune Part 2 captivated millions of viewers, mesmerizing audiences with their ambition and scale. Likewise, idiosyncratic indie gems such as Love Lies Bleeding feel like future cult classics in the making. These films introduced the world to several characters destined to be icons. Anya Taylor Joy's ingenious interpretation of Imperator Furiosa is surely one for the history books. That being said, not all of 2024's most memorable characters are traditionally heroic figures. Case in point, several cinematic villains saw their debut this year and proved themselves to be truly unforgettable.
Choosing 2024's standout antagonists is no easy task. After all, the year provided plenty of complex evildoers who were seldom less than enthralling, and one would most certainly feel a tad guilty leaving out vile scoundrels like Love Lies Bleeding's Lou Sr. or Fall Guy's Tom Ryder. That being said,...

Guillermo del Toro has a very interesting and respectable filmography, but there are a slew of films that the director never got to make. Be it Pacific Rim or Hellboy, del Toro has been able to deliver a very nuanced take on war, and violence, but there was one film that he never got to make, that could have possibly been pretty violent.
Blade II || Credit: New Line
While del Toro directed Blade II, the director abandoned a very interesting project that might have been a box office hit. The director is known for his interest in the supernatural, fantasy, and even science fiction, which takes inspiration from anime and other modern media. Guillermo del Toro could have directed a very interesting film, based on a famous novel, had not decided to deal with Marvel instead.

Spider-Noir will be the last entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe for the foreseeable future, and I’m actually excited by how that’ll affect the show. When Marvel regained the rights to Spider-Man, that meant that Sony wouldn’t be allowed to depict the hero in a way that would conflict. Instead, the studio has built its own Spider-Man Universe without the titular hero, but with characters who have a close association with him instead. The Ssu released three films just this year alone, but unfortunately to mostly negative reception.
Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and the Venom trilogy all received mixed to negative reviews. The lack of success with the Ssu films led Sony to the decision to discontinue the franchise for now. However, there will still be one more release in this shared universe. Tobey Maguire is celebrated as being perhaps the best iteration of Spider-Man today, but that was not always the case, at least when it came to critics. While some might say that the love that the actor is getting is thanks to nostalgia-tinted glasses, the man’s performance as Peter Parker shattered expectations in its heyday and also shut down critics who believed Maguire was not up to the role.

Maguire himself came out to talk about the criticisms that were leveled at him at the time, which focused on the fact that he did not seem like a conventional hero. Then again, Peter Parker was not a conventional hero, and therefore merited someone like Tobey Maguire being cast in the role for the big screen.

The creator of the Gundam franchise isn’t afraid to speak openly about the industry, his rivalries, and his feelings about his own work. Yoshiyuki Tomino is considered the father of the “Real Robot” mecha anime genre and the Mobile Suit Gundam series is his legacy in the anime industry.
Despite his accolades and influence, the director is convinced he lacks what it takes to be a true auteur in the anime industry. Tomino has stayed with Sunrise since the 1970s and since he specializes in the mecha genre, he has only stuck with them.

Neon has picked up the North American rights to Chloe Okuno’s horror pic Brides, which will star Maika Monroe and is set to shoot in March 2025.
The project marks the third collaboration between Neon and Monroe after Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs and the upcoming sequel They Follow, the follow-up to David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. Pre-production for Brides is now underway, and Neon plans to release the movie in theaters.
Longlegs made $75 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing indie film of the year and a high point for Neon, Tom Quinn’s Oscar-winning specialty production and distribution outfit also home to Parasite.
Longlegs saw Nicholas Cage play an elusive serial killer being tracked by FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) and who was so transformed for the film, he was almost unrecognizable. Brides will be produced by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu through Likely Story.

Exclusive: Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas are set to co-write and executive produce a drama series for Universal Televison based on the latter film producer’s debut novel, Climbing in Heels. The studio preemptively bought the rights to the book which hits store shelves on April 29, 2025.
This marks the first high-profile project under the big multi-year deal Star signed with Universal Television in March. The drama is yet to be taken out to buyers.
Climbing in Heels follows the fictional rise of five ambitious secretaries navigating the glitzy world of 1980s Hollywood. The St. Martins Press novel offers a glimpse into the boys-will-be-boys club and the women who wanted a seat at a table where they were expected to serve, and who became very much like the monsters they worked for. The success of this 2024 sequel to an iconic film is proof that, even years later, Nicholas Cage's National Treasure 3 needs to happen and could be quite lucrative. Few updates on National Treasure 3 have been announced ever since screenwriter Ted Elliot mentioned that the first draft of the script was done earlier in 2024 and that the main characters would return. That lack of progression on what would be a fun project for Disney continues to be confusing, especially considering the threequel's strong story potential.
National Treasure 3's story could easily build on the first two films' action-filled narratives, allowing Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicholas Cage) the chance to uncover more secrets within history and revive the adventure genre for a new generation. There may be an argument that the seventeen-year gap between the National Treasure films may cause it to fail at the box office despite audiences' desire...

Osgood Perkins‘ “Longlegs” walks a tricky line between realism and theatricality, balancing a heightened visual style — characterized by extreme wide-angle lensing and off-kilter compositions that keep the audience on edge — with meticulous recreations of 1970s and 1990s clothes, cars, and environments. Add to that the wild tonal swings between mortifying horror, sly comedy, and somber poignancy — plus a go-for-broke performance by Nicholas Cage in the title role that’s extreme even for the guy who brought us Castor Troy and Sailor Ripley — and you’ve got a filmmaking tightrope act dependent on a perfect calibration of every craft.
That was particularly true of the hair and makeup departments, which were tasked with bringing a number of challenging characters to life, not just the gruesome lead. If there’s one horror genre that gets the blood pumping in this particular gore-hound; it’s vampires! Ever since the German silent classic, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, bared its teeth way back in 1922, I’ve been obsessed with the genre. And no, you cheeky undead humanoid creatures, I’m not old enough to have caught that movie way back when. I can’t even remember where I first caught the sight of Max Schreck as Count Orlok, but it left a lasting impression. Ever since, I’ve gorged on human blood, figuratively speaking of course, with everything from The Lost Boys, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Let the Right One In, to more action oriented series like Blade and Underworld. Plus many, many more. The small screen has also had its fair share of awesome vampire action, with the countless TV re-imaginings of Dracula, the sex and claret...

From previous films by Radio Silence to similarly blood-soaked vampire comedies like The Lost Boys, there are plenty of great horror movies like Abigail for fans to check out. Helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, Abigail puts a fresh comedic spin on the vampire mythology. It revolves around an elite group of crooks being sent to abduct the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful figure in the criminal underworld, only to find that shes actually a bloodthirsty, centuries-old vampire. Shes not trapped in a mansion with them; theyre trapped in a mansion with her.
Before turning their sights to the vampire genre, Radio Silence had put their own uniquely energetic and darkly comic stamp on horror cinema with Ready or Not and their Scream films. Abigail isnt the first movie to wring pitch-black humor out of vampires having fun; this was previously seen in From Dusk Till Dawn.

The Western genre has tackled a wide variety of sub-genres and topics, ranging from revisionist deconstruction to fantasy and science fiction. One of the best types of Wild West movies is the supernatural Western, which uses everything from ghosts and vampires to folklore to bring audiences compelling twists on the genre. While some of these films are explicitly on the horror side of cinema, others are darker adaptations of the genre's classics, like Shane and Rio Bravo.
Supernatural Westerns offer audiences an unexpected look at the Old West, using the mystique and isolation of the setting to great effect. While the genre tends to be more subtle in its use of the supernatural than others, a variety of filmmakers have shown the West can be a place of mystery, horror, and suspense when written properly. It can be difficult to market a film. A trailer can be the best way to garner interest, although this can be undone when the promotional material offers spoilers to lure in potential viewers (as evidenced with many Terminator sequels.) It is a credit to Neon for operating a “less is more” approach for Longlegs, relying on an unsettling atmosphere conveyed in their cryptic videos as an effective primer for the feature.

It remains uncertain if and when there will be a new Ghost Rider movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For now, fans can revisit the past two films featuring Nicolas Cage in the lead role.
Starting on Nov. 1, both of Cage's Ghost Rider movies will start streaming alongside one another on Hulu. The movies getting a new streaming home comes months after fans of Cage's Johnny Blaze were left disappointed after the character did not make a special appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. While Deadpool & Wolverine brought in big names from past Marvel movies, like Wesley Snipes' Blade and Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Ghost Rider was left out in the cold. Ryan Reynolds confirmed that Ghost Rider appearing was considered at the start of production, but he didn't specify if Cage was actually approached or why the cameo didn't end up happening.

Sometimes, looking back can help with what’s coming next.
That was the message from Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope on Wednesday during a keynote interview in Rome at the Italian confab Mia, in which she addressed everything from Season 5 of The Boys to calling for gaps between seasons to shrink.
Asked to apply her experience — which includes a decade at NBCUniversal, long before joining Sony more than two years ago — she said certain principles from the broadcast system could help inform a better way to produce in the future.
“There was a sense of time and money in the U.S. broadcast system,” she said. “You really had to get shows done. You did not have a choice. We’re now seeing the hangover of the boom times, and people will say they don’t know if they can do it for this amount of money or make the schedule.
