On Wednesday, U.S. ice dancers and married couple Madison Chock and Evan Bates received gold medals as part of the reallocation ceremony for the Olympic figure skating team.
Chock and Bates competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The U.S. figure skating team initially finished in second place until it was found that Russian skater Kamila Valieva tested positive for Trimetazidine, a substance banned by the games.
“Honestly, it feels unreal at the moment,” Chock told NBC. “It’s surreal. We’re just looking out at the Eiffel Tower, and every time I look at it, I just have to pinch myself because we’re here, and I can’t believe that it’s really happening. After two-and-a-half years of waiting, we’re getting our Olympic gold medal, and not just anywhere, we’re getting it under the Eiffel Tower at a Summer Olympics.”

Teenage Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was banned from the sport for four years over a positive doping test taken just before the 2022 Winter Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Monday. The ban backdates to before the most recent Winter Games in Beijing, stripping Russia of its figure skating team gold and potentially paving the way for the U.S. team to finally be awarded first place two years after the controversy first surfaced.

The inevitable dance scene for season 2 already has the perfect choice of a Wednesday dance song. Wednesday premiered on November 16, 2022, providing a new perspective on the stories of the infamous Addams family. Wednesday Addams, portrayed by Scream's Jenna Ortega, enrolled in Nevermore Academy, a private school for misfits and monsters which is also her parents' alma mater. Wednesday quickly became a smash hit for Netflix, becoming the second-most watched English-language series on the service in its first three weeks, leading to its renewal for a second season in January 2023.
Wednesday season 1 episode 4, "Woe What a Night," featured the students of Nevermore taking part in a prom-like event known as the Rave'n Dance, which Wednesday attended with local barista Tyler (Hunter Doohan). During the episode Jenna Ortega performed an impressive dance as Wednesday Addams to the tune of "Goo Goo Muck" by the Cramps, marking the first moment she truly comes...

Jenna Ortega's career received a huge boost from Wednesday, but there's one part she regretted despite the attention it received - the viral Jenna Ortega Wednesday dance moves. Ortega leads the cast of the Netflix series as the Addams Family's daughter, exploring her teenage years as she headed off to the private school Nevermore Academy, home to various supernatural beings that was also her parents' alma mater. Upon arrival, Wednesday began to realize she inherited her mother's psychic abilities and put them to use to save the town and her classmates from a murderous creature.
Ortega and Wednesday scored largely favorable reviews, with many taking note in particular of her unhinged dance scene during the Rave'n Dance, though the actor at the center of it doesn't have a glowing review for the moment. However, while Jenna wasn't really happy about the dance scene, that didn't rank as high...

Jenna Ortega addresses the online trend that her Wednesday dance scene inspired, revealing that she had hoped that the sequence wouldn't go viral. Audiences first got a glimpse of the dance scene in the Netflix series' first teaser trailer, before seeing the full sequence in episode 4 "Woe What A Night", where Ortega's Addams Family character attended Nevermore Academy's school dance. After the episode was released, the scene became a viral trend on TikTok, where users created short video edits of the dance and recreated the choreography.
During an interview with The Times, Ortega opened up about her career so far, during which she expressed her true feelings toward Wednesday's viral dance trend that took the internet by storm. The star revealed that while she first tried to have a positive reaction to the news that the dance had been embraced by audiences online, she ultimately felt that it would...

In a Saturday Night Live promo ahead of her hosting debut, Jenna Ortega reluctantly performs her iconic Wednesday dance for the Please Don't Destroy boys. Shortly after Wednesday premiered on Netflix in November 2022, one particular scene in episode 4, "Woe What a Night," quickly went viral on social media. In the scene, Ortega, as Wednesday Addams, performs a very Wednesday-like dance to the song "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps. The scene even sparked a viral TikTok trend in which users recreated the dance to the backdrop of Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary."
A clip from Ortega's upcoming SNL appearance sees the actor perform the iconic Wednesday dance scene, albeit reluctantly. She performed the routine with the comedy trio Please Don't Destroy, who began working with Saturday Night Live in 2021.

Jenna Ortega has revealed that she regrets her dance moves in Wednesday, even though this memorable moment quickly became incredibly popular. Scream's Jenna Ortega portrayed Wednesday Addams, the now teenage daughter of Morticia and Gomez (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán) who enrolls in her parents' alma mater, Nevermore Academy, after being expelled from her previous school. There, Wednesday uses her emerging psychic abilities to investigate a mysterious monster that has been terrorizing the residents of Jericho, while also trying to integrate into school life.
Wednesday episode 4, "Woe What a Night," sees the students of Nevermore preparing for the Rave'n Dance, a prom-like occasion for misfits and outcasts, to which Wednesday invites local barista Tyler. Along with Wednesday's stellar viewership figures and massive ratings, several memorable scenes from the series quickly went viral, with the most prominent being a moment from episode 4 featuring Ortega surprisingly stealing the dance-floor and throwing some shapes.

Wednesday has already seeped its way into pop culture thanks to lead actress Jenna Ortega's memorable dance sequence, and a recent figure skating routine has proved critics of Wednesday Addams' moves completely wrong. An original series for Netflix in 2022, Wednesday quickly became one of the platform's most popular shows and shattered viewing records previously held by Stranger Things. Wednesday follows the titular Addams family daughter as she is sent away to a boarding school, Nevermore Academy, full of outcasts, where she uses her new-found psychic powers to investigate a local murder spree.
Although it was released late in the year, Wednesday is easily one of the best Netflix shows of 2022, and much of that is down to Jenna Ortega's performance. A Russian teen figure skater’s move-for-move re-creation of Jenna Ortega’s viral “Wednesday” dance at the 2023 Russian Figure Staking Championships is having a viral moment of its own.
Kamila Valieva‘s routine began with just the 16-year-old’s hand peeking out from the stands as Thing, then she climbed onto the ice clad in a frilled black dress like the one Wednesday Addams wore to a school dance in episode 4 of the Netflix series. She also copied Ortega’s braids, pale makeup and blank facial expression.
The opening moments were skated to Danny Elfman’s theme music for the show, and then switched to The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck,” where Valieva channeled Ortega’s now iconic dance moves.

The international union that governs skating said Tuesday that it was following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee in banning athletes from Russia and Belarus from its competitions across the sports of figure skating and speed skating. It becomes the latest organization in the sports world to take action since Russia began its military invasion of Ukraine.
The Ioc on Monday took the unprecedented step of calling on sporting organizations around the world to ban the two nations from competing, urging global sports federations to “protect the integrity of competitions for the safety of all the participants” by excluding athletes and officials from the two nations.
Belarus is an ally to Russia and allowed Russian troops to pour over its southern border into Ukraine as the invasion began last week.

On Monday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Kimmel talked a lot about the tragedy in Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia last week and still waging what may ultimately prove a losing battle against the war of aggression.
During the chat, Kimmel ran down some of the various ways organizations and countries are trying to push back. And then he humorously side-eyed the International Olympic Committee for finally finding a reason to actually punish Russia for wrongdoing.
“The big story, as you all know, is the war on Ukraine,” Kimmel said during his monologue. “Where the Russians are bombing civilians, all the while saying they aren’t.”
“The Ukrainians are not giving up. They’re showing great courage in the shadow of the murderer, Vladimir Putin,” Kimmel continued. “A man whose list of admirers is now down to Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump.”
“Even famously-neutral Switzerland is taking action against Russia.

The scene that unfolded on Thursday morning in Beijing during the Women’s Figure Skating competition — watching Kamila Valieva, the 15-year-old thrust into the center of Russia’s doping scandal, struggle so publicly — was disheartening on many levels. Thursday Olympics Coverage Ticks Up Slightly From Wednesday Lows, Matches First Night Of Competition

The 2022 Winter Olympics, now three Thursdays into competition, are back where they started ratings-wise.

NBC skating commentators Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the room when Russian skater Kamila Valieva took the ice on Tuesday night. In fact, they made it clear they were outright disappointed to see her perform.
Valieva tested positive for a banned heart medication earlier this week, following a test taken on Dec. 25. Primarily due to her age, Valieva was not banned from competition. If she makes the podium — a definite possibility, since she posted an 82.16 on Tuesday night, putting her in first place — there will be no medal ceremony. But, Lipinski and Weir wanted to reiterate that, in any other case, Valieva wouldn’t have been there at all — and they would’ve preferred that.
