We're at the end of 2024, and you know what that means. It's time to look back at what all happened this year. We'll start off by saying that it's been a rollercoaster of a year for many of the streaming services, especially Netflix. While there were many renewals from the streamer, there were also some cancellations.
This year, the streaming powerhouse pulled the plug on 17 of its original series, and there's even a chance there will be more cancellations since 2024 isn't quite over yet. Obviously, a show getting canceled is never a good thing, and it sucks for the people who were hoping for additional installments. However, there's one Netflix show that got the boot this year that we're not exactly sad about.
In this article, we shared all the Netflix show cancellations from this year as well as discussed why we weren't necessarily hurt by one of the shows being axed.

With presidential candidate Kamala Harris and even some tone-deaf Republicans co-opting the Brat aesthetic and lingo on social media, it seemed like Charli Xcx’s cultural currency had reached critical mass. Pitchfork, Dazed, and others were quick to prematurely declare “Brat Summer” over. To which the singer promptly clapped back, “oh ? see u next week :)”
The latest Brat brand extension is a new remix of “Guess,” featuring Billie Eilish. A standout track from the album’s cheekily titled deluxe edition, Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, the frenetic hyperpop song (co-written by Charli and 100 gecs’s Dylan Brady) echoes Eilish’s own tongue-in-cheek ode to oral sex, “Lunch.” “You wanna guess the color of my underwear/You wanna know what I got going on down there,” Charli teases before Eilish gets in on the not-so-subtle innuendo: “Charli likes boys,...

"You need to carry on and finish it." Kino Lorber has revealed an official trailer for an indie LGBTQ drama titled Sebastian, made by a Finnish-British filmmaker named Mikko Mäkelä. This originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it also played at the Provincetown & Frameline Film Festivals. Sebastian follows a burgeoning young journalist who turns to sex work to research his first novel. But where will this lead him? What will he discover? Another intimate, hypnotic exploration of repressed sexuality through cinema. Posing tantalizing questions about the creative process and the recurring cultural conversations about authenticity in art and who can / should tell certain stories, the film stars Ruaridh Mollica as Max, aka Sebastian, whose "fearless lead performance should elevate him to rising star status", and who has already been cast based on his work here in the upcoming HBO series from Armando Iannucci called "The Franchise...

Good news for all of the brats out there: Charli Xcx has already dropped a deluxe version of her new album Brat. Dubbed Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, the new tracklist boasts (as you might have guessed) three new tunes from the pop star.
The three new songs of Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not follow the 15 initial tracks of Brat and are titled “Hello goodbye,” “Guess,” and “Spring breakers.” Each picks right up where Brat left off, embodying Charli Xcx’s idiosyncratic approach to pop music. Notably, “Hello goodbye” sees the artist once again linking up with A. G. Cook, while “Guess” features writing credits from the likes of Dylan Brady (of 100 Gecs) and Harrison Patrick Smith (of The Dare). Stream them all below.

Skrillex has reunited with Boys Noize for a new single, “Fine Day Anthem.” The pair recently previewed the track during a show in Berlin and it marks their first collaboration since their dual 2019 EP Turn Off The Lights.
The cover art for the single, created by digital artist Thomas Harrington Rawle using both studio photography and manual digital painting, is intended to evoke ’90’s rave photos. On Twitter, Skrillex noted that the duo have included snippets from single in their DJ sets for the past year.

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that so far in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has...

It’s not every day that an album receives polar-opposite reviews. Divisiveness to that extent – the sort that has one critic heralding the record as a glimmering bravura of 21st-century pop music, another comparing it to a bazooka firing out the world’s worst genres at your face – is almost unheard of these days. It’s really quite the feat for 100 gecs. But the duo – Laura Les, 28, and Dylan Brady, 29 – loathe reading reviews. “I hate it,” says Les in her chronic deadpan. “But it’s nice when they’re nice.”
And they are. Reviews of their second album – bar that bazooka comparison – have been very nice, if a little surprised by 10,000 gecs. With 2019’s 1000 gecs, Les and Brady did not so much burst onto the scene as explode. Their debut is a flash-bang of high-energy dance-pop as you’ve never heard it, sliced through with razor-sharp shards of ska, dubstep,...

Just a couple of weeks after sharing their new album 10,000 gecs, 100 gecs took over Los Angeles’ Boiler Room the other night for a DJ set that incuded — among an array of bangers — a very gec-ified version of “Toxicity” by System of a Down.
It’s not too difficult to trace Laura Les and Dylan Brady’s abrasive, industrial hyperpop back to System of a Down’s adrenaline-fueled nu-metal. The duo toned down the original track’s guitars in favor of chopped-up instrumentals, a few beat drops, and bass boosted loud enough to cause some minor tectonic shifts.
The hour-and-a-half-long set also included House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll,” Harry Belafonte’s “Jump in the Line” back-to-back with Smash Mouth’s “Walkin’ on the Sun,” Skrillex’s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” mashed up with Vince Staples’ “Yeah Right,” and many other great choices. See 100 gecs’ remix of “Toxicity” below,...

On their new album, 10,000 Gecs, the hyperpop 100 Gecs face down life after going viral with their breakthrough album, 2019’s brilliantly realized 1000 Gecs. 100 gecs have premiered their new single “Hollywood Baby” along with the reveal of the full tracklist for their upcoming sophomore album, 10,000 gecs.

Centred on a chaotic family coming to terms with an autism diagnosis, the Israeli comedy-drama “Yellow Peppers” never aired on British television, but it’s had a pronounced influence on British TV schedules over the past decade. First, it begat Peter Bowker’s direct adaptation “The A Word,” which over three series relocated several of its predecessor’s storylines to a picturesque Lake District setting, achieving the holy-grail combo of excellent reviews and high ratings for the BBC before finding a transatlantic home on Sundance TV.
Now “The A Word” generates its own variation in “Ralph & Katie,” a six-part spin-off charting the further adventures of soccer-mad Ralph (Leon Harrop) and his baker beloved Katie (Sarah Gordy). Noteworthy as characters with Down’s syndrome played by actors with Down’s syndrome, these lovebirds first won hearts during a third-series subplot on “The A Word,” moving in together against the advice of their overprotective,...

Lollapalooza 2022 kicked off on Thursday in Chicago’s Grant Park with headliners Metallica, Lil Baby, and Caroline Polachek. Like the variety offered at the topline of the fest, the day featured an eclectic mix of music. From TikTok stars to rock royalty and the return of the Kidzapalooza stage for the first time in three years, there was something for every age group on Day 1. And if there was an underlying theme beyond appealing to a wide swath of fans, a handful of artists with famous kinfolk are taking center stage throughout the four-day festival.

“Doritos and Fritos” does what 100 Gecs always do best, bridging the gaps between styles and eras as it swings between vintage Nineties alt-rock — seriously, the bass line sounds straight out of a Primus song — and glitched-out bubblegum pop. The lyrics remain perfectly irreverent as well, with Dylan Brady deadpanning about eating burritos with Danny DeVito, while Laura Less drones, “I went to France to get some new pants/I went to...

100 Gecs bust out the wizard robes in the new video for “Mememe,” the first offering the from the duo’s highly-anticipated next album, 10000 Gecs.
“Mememe” finds 100 Gecs delivering ska-style verses and sky-high arena rock hooks, though the entire song is characteristically peppered with genre-exploding flourishes. The “Mememe” visual is equally over-the-top, shot largely on a fish eye lens — often from the perspective of inside someone’s mouth — as 100 Gecs’ Dylan Brady and Laura Les dance and jump around a sunny field in luxurious wizard robes.

Pussy Riot have released a new song, “Sexist,” which will appear on their upcoming Panic Attack EP, set to arrive March 11th.

Update Feb. 14: A week after ABC teased Claudia Conway’s audition in the season premiere of American Idol and a day after the teen lowered expectations by saying on social media that she was not happy with how she did, viewers got to see for themselves tonight.
The audition indeed was not a runaway success, and judge Katy Perry had to stop Conway in the middle of her performance to ask her to try a different song. After some discussion over the teen’s “limited range,” judge Luke Bryan gave her a “no” but “yes”es from Perry and Lionel Richie sent Conway to Hollywood, much to the delight to her famous parents who both make an appearance. Watch the full video above.

Rebecca Black celebrated the 10th anniversary of her surprise viral hit “Friday” with a bonkers new remix featuring Big Freedia, 3Oh!3, and Dorian Electra, produced by 100 Gecs’ Dylan Brady.
The new remix is about as different from Black’s 2011 original as you can get, with Brady warping the sanitized mall pop into something delightfully delirious. Black’s vocals are pitch-shifted into oblivion, while Dorian Electra and 3Oh!3 chip in quick verses and Big Freedia steps in for a big bounce breakdown.

100 Gecs have dropped a wild reimagining of Linkin Park’s classic, “One Step Closer,” marking the first in a series of remakes to further celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory.
The track starts off pretty faithful to the original, with 100 Gecs recasting the intro with a bit more Edm wobble. But by the first chorus, the song explodes into a surreal yet cohesive collage of genres — one that, of course, would make Linkin Park proud — with both Laura Les and Dylan Brady adding their vocals to the song.

Hyperpop heroes 100 Gecs get back at Santa Claus for a poor showing of presents on their new holiday song, “Sympathy 4 the Grinch.”

Rico Nasty has tapped Gucci Mane and Don Toliver for a new song, “Don’t Like Me,” the third single from her upcoming album, Nightmare Vacation, out this December via Atlantic.
The track boasts an ebullient beat with soft synth plunks shimmering atop booming bass and crisp drums. Rico leads the way, teaming up with Toliver on the instantly memorable chorus, then peeling off a delightful verse (“Ooh, roll one up just to keep me high/Ooh, don’t look down if you scared of heights”) before Gucci Mane takes over.

Callin and Brendan Paulhus are driving toward an inferno. It’s mid-September 2020; Los Angeles County has 474 new reported cases of Covid-19, the city is experiencing some of the worst air quality and pollution in the world, and five million acres across the West Coast are scorched due to forest fires. The Paulhus brothers knew all this, and still decided to pack up Bren’s 2016 Toyota Sonata on a Monday, put money down on a four-month lease, and make the cross-country drive from their family’s home in Massachusetts. They have 29 hours left until their destination.

It’s a Spring Saturday and somewhere deep in Philadelphia, five twentysomethings are huddled in a small apartment, each hunched over a computer. The click-clack of their keyboards is the only sound heard in the room, but via their devices, they’re running one of the largest music festivals in the world.
April 25’s Block by Blockwest, a cheeky twist on the annual South By Southwest confab which was called off this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, took place on Minecraft, the beloved online game in which block-shaped players can build the virtual worlds of their wildest dreams.
The team behind this particular world is Courier Club, an up-and-coming indie rock band consisting of singer and guitarist Timothy Waldron, lead guitarist Ryan Conway, bassist Michael Silverglade and drummer Jack Kessler. Along with Silverglade’s brother and self-taught Minecraft expert, Steven, they saw all of coronavirus’ music-related cancellations as an...

100 Gecs are learning how to play with fire. Inside a Manhattan magic shop, Dylan Brady and Laura Les’ eyes pop as they flip open a trick wallet that bursts into flames and click a secret button on a coffee mug that shoots forth a bright blaze. The shop also doubles as a Harry Houdini museum and is filled with old artifacts: handcuffs, locks, posters, a coffin Houdini escaped from in 1907. Initially, Brevin Kim‘s new song “the wedding” is serene. The song begins with a guitar pluck, a disembodied howl, and the voice of a man singing, “Ain’t shit cool about falling.” The moment of tranquility lingers for less than 30 seconds as a sense of cascading doom teases itself on the horizon. Then the bottom drops out.
Screeching synths fill the vacuum, intense drums add to the discord, and the former ghostly voice comes to the forefront yelling, “Wake me up. I’m falling.” Sonically and thematically, the soft...

Deb Never‘s “Swimming” is brutally direct. “Treat me like you give a fuck about me now / If I ever let up, will you hold it down,” Never sings to open the song. Her only companion is a lone, somber guitar riff. Then, as if to slightly puncture the melodramatic air, frenetic drums courtesy of Dylan Brady’s (member of the fantastic 100 gecs) suddenly arrive to add a semblance of chaos to the dourness.
“Swimming” is built on a sense of propulsion underscored by immediate breaks. Drums drop out as quickly as they appear.
