Skilled in martial arts (Taekwondo), holding 3rd Dan of black belt in Taegwondo.

In 2017, Hye Soo starred in the movie A Special Lady where she had lots of fight scenes. Not only did she have to fight with a lot of stuntmen, but at one point, she also had to carry a rifle that weighed a little over 20 pounds.

Hye Soo is fluent in five languages. She can speak Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. She learned the English language for her role in 'Too Tired to Die (1998)' where she worked alongside Kaneshiro Takeshi.

Hye Soo has a bachelor's degree in theater and film from Dongguk University and a master's in journalism and mass communications from Sungkyunkwan University.

In 1986, Kim made her film debut on Ggambo (1986) just when she was a first-year high school student. She won the Best New Actress for the titular film at 23rd Baeksang Arts Awards.

She is the second child among 5 siblings. She has 1 sister and 3 brothers. Two of her brothers, Dong Hyun Kim and Dong Hee Kim, are also actors in South Korea.

She was born in Pusan but her family moved up to Seoul before her entrance to elementary school.
