This musical film incorporates a series of romantic stories with beautiful original songs. The stories are set in modern Taipei City, Taiwan, on Valentine's Day. The title is inspired by the 52Hz whale, dubbed the world's loneliest whale because no other whales could hear its unusually high frequency call, thus reflecting the loneliness that might be felt by Taiwanese who are looking for love in the city.

After her car breaks down on a rainy night, Miss Liang enters a nearby coffee shop called Cafe 6. The owner of the shop finds out that Miss Liang has just gotten into a fight with her boyfriend who is currently overseas, so to kill time, he shares a story of his time back in 1996. During that year, Guan Min-lu and his good friend Xiao Bo-zhi always hang out together. Min-lu is secretly in love with Li Xin-rui while Bo-zhi is attracted to Xin-rui's best friend, Cai Xin-yi. The four young teenagers share a good relationship with each other and spend their days happily every day. But as their graduation day draws near, they wonder if they can still stay committed with each other after going their separate ways.

Part of TTV's acclaimed Qseries imprint, the quirky, moving family series A Boy Named Flora A (2017) turned into one of Taiwan's biggest television hits of 2017. The cast and crew return with more family love and laughs in the 2018 feature film Hua jia da ren zhuan nan hai (2018), directed by Yu-Ning Chu. Released during the Chinese New Year period, the film follows the post-military life of protagonist Hwa Jia, played by popular singer-songwriter Crowd Lu.

The film asks, how did things get this bad? And it asks once more, are these problems exclusive to Taiwan ten years from now? Of the five films, only "A Making Of" has a happy ending.
