The Flower of the Fairway is an above average episode, it has a good story line, it's well acted, it's darker then first appears, but it's let down by a terrible ending.
I applaud Guy Paul for his characterisation of Raylan Reeve, he did a great job at making him an absolutely loathsome character, the regulars were all on good form, Ty Glaser was also excellent as the troubled Tamara.
I thought the script was rather good, the story unfolded, and went from being light and breezy to something more sinister, with more substance. I felt it got a bit muddled towards the end, as on first watch it wasn't totally clear who the killer was.
It wasn't one of the best, but it was a pretty good watch, until that awful ending, just before the shot I said aloud 'this would be really awful if he suddenly hit a hole in one,' and he did!

Unlike some, I didn't ,mind this episode, come on folks, it's light entertainment not meant to be taken too seriously, a bit of fun, a couple of murders, a semi comical police inspector, a priest with an enquiring mind who spends more time solving crimes than doing mass. A nosy but lovable housekeeper, and of course the gorgeous 'Bunty' supplying some much needed glamour. Yes of course some episodes are going to be better than others, like in all long running series, but it's the characters you follow more than the plots, at least I do, and that's why I love this series. Miss Sid though.

This was a terrible ending. Not only is not feasible, the evidence should not have supported it, except for the stupid detective they have in charge in the most recent episodes. Deam plays his character way, way over the top.

An episode that could had easily been called 'Father Brown meets Donald Trump meets Chinatown.'
Hermione Harvey leads the locals to protest against a brash American Raylan Reeve who has opened a golf club in the village. Harvey's prize winning garden is ruined as the water to her land as been cut off. She complained to Inspector Mallory but nothing came of it, then again he has been invited to join the prestigious golf club.
Father Brown is hoping that Reeve would make a donation to the church funds but he is a man who does not believe in charity, Reeve is also getting death threats asking him to leave town. Hermione Harvey meanwhile sees a strange man hanging around her garden.
During a golf tournament, a man who carried a torch for Tamara, his daughter shows up. Morgana, his granddaughter is taking part in the tournament and so is Bunty who has assumed an identity of a Frenchwoman.
Bunty while her ball is stuck in the rough finds a corpse, later Raylan Reeve's dead body is found and Inspector Mallory suspects Hermione Harvey.
An enjoyable enough tale, it is while before we see a dead body but it was fun to see Mrs McCarthy give a running commentary on golf which irritates Bunty. The actual mystery and its resolution came across as messy and convoluted.

Murder is more than just taking a life. It is more complex than that. There is human emotion involved too. That is the message of this episode. That is what I like about this series. Every episode has a message and a different setting.

Again, the BBC refuses to hire American actors to play Americans, instead using bad English actors on the cheap to play Americans with appallingly bad accents. Three of them this time!

The most poorly written episode of this usually good series. Accompanied by appalling acting. Mark Williams excepted, of course.

Local feathers are ruffled when an ostentatious American opens up a golf club near Kembleford and a body is discovered in the reeds.
Starts out light and breezy, then gets a bit darker with some serious themes, but the most enjoyable aspect is Bunty dressed as a golfer and competing on the greens, which prompts Mrs McCarthy to go on a running commentary. There's a good performance by Guy Paul as the horrid Ragland Reeve, but i found the mystery elements quite messy and the denouement is convoluted and not explained properly.
