In this prequel episode, Pikachu's backstory as a Pichu, his being cared for by a Kangaskhan after falling off a cliff, and the events leading to his evolution into a Pikachu and eventually meeting Ash are revealed. In this episode, Hana Takeda voices young Ash Ketchum, Kei Shindo voices Goh, and Ikue otani voices Pichu. In the English dub, they are voiced by the same actors that voice their more grown up counterparts aided by some technical tweaking.

Ash is attending the opening of Professor Cerise's new research laboratory in Vermilion City, but the day's events take an unexpected turn when the Legendary Pokémon Lugia appears nearby.

Ash and Goh are embarking on their first full day as research fellows at Professor Cerise's Laboratory, and the excitement starts right away.

When Ash and Goh are tasked to go to the Galar Region to inspect the Pokemons there growing in giant sizes, they meet a trio of thieving Nickits ran by a Scorbunny.

Ash and Goh continue their journey to find a Dynamax Snorlax. Scorbunny tails them to get to Goh.

Goh works with Scorbunny to catch some Pokemons.

Ash and Goh go to the Hoenn Region to win a collection of Glass Flute Cups during a Pokemon fighting competition.

Ash and Goh go to the Sinnoh Region to return a runaway Piplup to its owner, Lauren. There they enter the Pokemon Iceberg Race due to Lauren's Piplup's jealousy with her Croagunk.

Ash and Goh go to the Johto Region to find Ho-Oh, a legendary Pokemon. There they meet a boy with the same goal to impress his grandfather who lost his belief in it.

Ash and Goh go to Dragonite Island to discover some Dragonite living there.

Ash and Goh find a Gengar responsible for the poltergeist activity in the Cerise Institute. Meanwhile Chloe thinks about her future occupation.

Ash and Goh go to the World Coronation Series to witness a battle involving Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing.
