The stars won Best Actress and Best Actor for their respective roles in Babygirl and Queer at the 2025 National Board Of Review Gala on Tuesday night (January 7) held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

Elle Fanning was awarded Best Supporting Actress for A Complete Unknown, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Mikey Madison was awarded Breakthrough Performance for Anora. Conclave stars Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini were on hand to accept the award for Best Ensemble.

It was also a big night for Wicked, which won Best Film while the movie’s director Jon M. Chu won Best Director and Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo won the NBR Spotlight Award for the creative collaboration.

Saying goodbye to a comfort show is never easy, but the series finale of Roswell, New Mexico does its best to give viewers hope one last time as we see the show’s main LGBTQ+ couple actually get their happy ending.

After seasons of overcoming their own hardships and obstacles keeping them apart, we see Alex (Tyler Blackburn) and Michael (Michael Vlamis) get married. It is bound to fill every viewer with happiness as we watch these two men get ready for this life changing step, especially Sanders’ visit to a nervous Michael. It’s a reminder that family does not always have to be blood, for both of them, as they start their own together.

Nathan Dean as Max Evans and Jeanine Mason as Liz Ortecho in ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ season 4 episode 13

The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico season four episode 13 serves as both the season and series finale. Picking up seconds after the end of episode 12, “How It’s Going to Be“ begins with Clyde easily stopping Isobel and Max’s attack. Rosa (Amber Midthunder) concentrates on tuning in on Clyde’s frequency and manages to free herself from his restraint.

Rosa surprises Clyde by smashing him over the head with a board, which gives Max (Nathan Dean) time to prepare to use the blue flame. Unfortunately, Clyde also uses the flame and knocks everyone over before kidnapping Rosa and escaping in a car.

The #PodSquad discuss their next move and Bonnie suggests they need to destroy the portal before Clyde can use it. Michael (Michael Vlamis) thinks they should hold off on that drastic move and Max agrees.

The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico season four episode 12 is both the season and the series’ penultimate episode. Episode 11 ended with Clyde offering Shivani help bringing back her daughter, and episode 12 reveals she took him up on the offer.

Liz (Jeanine Mason), who’s still struggling with her addiction to the mist, concocts a new version of the mist that will return Max’s powers in just an hour. Max (Nathan Dean) explains he and Isobel discovered Shivani packed up her lab (including the pods) but left behind remnants of a formula on a board. Liz doesn’t recognize it and Max thinks it came from Clyde. Liz believes this mysterious formula might be used to remove Clyde’s brand. They realize Clyde’s got his powers back since the lab was full of mist.

Fans of Roswell, New Mexico, were given some bad news last week.

The sci-fi reboot has been canceled after four seasons.

The good news?

We still have an entire season to watch before the residents of the alien-filled town say goodbye for good.

The CW dropped the official trailer this week, and it teases the coming events in a big way.

While the show isn't getting a pre-planned conclusion, the ending is supposed to be satisfying enough for longtime fans.

“Mark Pedowitz [and] his team at The CW had the class [and] grace to warn the shows that they might not survive, even if The CW wanted them,” executive producer Julie Plec tweeted of Roswell and Legacies over the weekend.

“Because of that, the season finales of both shows were carefully crafted to also work as series finales.”

Roswell, New Mexico is one of a batch of shows from the CW to be axed.

“Charmed,” “Dynasty,” “Roswell, New Mexico” and “In the Dark” have been canceled at The CW, Variety has learned.

Both “Roswell, New Mexico” and “In the Dark” have already completed filming on their upcoming seasons and will conclude after those episodes have aired.

Also canceled Thursday by the younger-skewing broadcast network were “Naomi” and “4400.”

Based on the original WB/CW series of the same name, “Charmed” was currently airing its fourth season. The reboot starred Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, Lucy Barrett, Rupert Evans and Jordan Donica. During the show’s first three seasons, Madeleine Mantock was the lead, playing the three sisters at the center of the series along with Diaz and Jeffrey. Barrett joined the show for Season 4 following Mantock’s exit.

Terry will play Jordan, the son of Roswell’s Mayor Bernhardt, a privileged young man who blames his failure to measure up to his parents’ high expectations on the influx of immigrants and people of color in his community. As the leader of a grassroots group dedicated to preserving the status quo in Roswell, Jordan will go toe to toe with our heroes as racial tensions in town bubble to the surface.

Vigman will play Roswell’s diligent new Sheriff Brooke Taylor, a tough yet charismatic officer elected on a mandate of law and order.

Antebellum is the debut feature-length film by writer/director duo Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. In the film, they aim to explore what happens when the past, present, and future collide in a time where activism against injustice is prevalent. And it comes from one of the producers of the successful thriller, Get Out, which seems to be a regular announcement made among horror and thriller films these days. When you see those words pop up on the screen, expect a movie with a strong social message. It’s like woke cinema is its own genre now.

But a film that focuses on beating its themes to death is rarely entertaining, and such is the case with Antebellum, an aimless movie with no purpose other than shock value. For the team behind “Antebellum,” the film couldn’t be coming at a more important moment in history, addressing America’s original sin of slavery through the lens of the horror-thriller film.

For this review round-up, I’ll be talking about a trio of recent releases that include Antebellum from directors Christopher Renz and Gerard Bush, the wrestling documentary Nail in the Coffin: The Fall and Rise of Vampiro, as well as McG’s latest horror comedy, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which recently debuted exclusively on Netflix.

Antebellum: I had such high hopes for Antebellum going into it, but there’s a very precise moment in the film where it decides to take a huge left turn, and that’s when everything, to me, fell totally and completely apart with the story. Before that, I absolutely loved the characters, the performances, the costume design, as well as some fantastic production design that was a real highlight as well, and both the pacing and a palpable sense of tension made Antebellum an enthralling experience to watch unfold.

The studio has also announced the movie will be skipping theaters and heading straight-to-vod starting in September, after being delayed for months all summer. Better to drop it now than keep waiting. This full-length trailer is a much better look at what's going on. This definitely seems like a Get Out-inspired alternate reality where powerful Black people are captured and sent back (in time?) to live as slaves.

Lionsgate has announced that the horror/thriller Antebellum will be skipping theaters in the U.S. in favor of a premium on-demand offering. The movie stars Janelle Monae in the lead role and is directed by filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. It will be debuting on all digital platforms starting September 18. The movie will still be released theatrically in select international markets. This mirrors the strategy Disney is taking with Mulan, which was announced recently.

It was not revealed, at this time, what Lionsgate will be charging for Antebellum. However, most premium VOD offerings thus far have gone for around $20. The trend kicked off earlier in the year after theaters closed down, with Universal offering Trolls World Tour digitally, opting to skip theaters in favor of bringing in some much-needed money now. Lionsgate announced on Thursday that it will release the Janelle Monae horror film “Antebellum” as a premium video-on-demand title for $19.99 on Sept. 18, one week after pulling the film from a planned theatrical release on Aug. 21.

Written and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, “Antebellum” stars Monae as Veronica Henley, a successful writer who finds herself wrenched back through time to the era of slavery in the Deep South. Lionsgate has removed Janelle Monáe’s upcoming horror movie “Antebellum” from the release calendar, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. The film was originally set to be released theatrically on Aug. 21.

The film’s release is currently unset. The move is not surprising given the fact that California’s movie theaters, bars, indoor restaurants, wineries and museums are currently closed due to the “alarming” spread of Covid-19.

In “Antebellum,” Monáe plays a renowned author giving a lecture about why women are the future. But she finds out her time might be up when fate chooses her to confront the reality of America’s haunting past. Split between modern times and the Civil War-era slavery period in the South, Monáe finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late. Carina Adly MacKenzie, the creator of Roswell, New Mexico, has left her position as co-showrunner of the series ahead of Season 3 due to “fundamental differences.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter story that broke the news, the decision comes after MacKenzie’s relationship with studio Warner Bros. Television has “been strained for some time,” citing a Twitter incident in which MacKenzie criticized UK distributor ITV over cutting a gay love scene from the broadcast of the show that led Warner Bros. to have to do “damage control” as a recent example. More broadly, the article states: “During her time on the show, she is said to have fostered a working environment that some say was rife with tension.”

Roswell, New Mexico co-showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie is exiting the series ahead of the third season “due to fundamental differences”, MacKenzie said Friday in a statement posted on social media.

In her statement which reads in part, MacKenzie said, “I have made the difficult decision to resign from my role on Roswell, New Mexico. I do not take this decision lightly, but ultimately due to fundamental differences, I must depart and entrust Roswell, New Mexico to capable hands. I am so proud of what we built over the last two years, and I believe in the heart and soul of the show: asking tough questions, striving to make the world better, amplifying marginalized voices, and fighting the good fight.”

In the golden age of Hollywood do-overs, it’s tough to stand out.

When the next reboot hits the screen, viewers are intrigued at first, wanting to see what new ideas have been filtered into an already established world. But many reboots don’t stick (that’s probably a discussion for some other time).

There is one reboot that’s getting it mostly right, though, and would be a delicious addition to your weekly schedule. That show is Roswell, New Mexico.

For starters, this is a re-imaging that gets it right.
