Member of the Chile youth team who won 3rd place at the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup.

(England, 2013-14), Inter Milan (Italy, 2014-2017), Besiktas J.K. (Turkey, 2017-2019), Bologna F.C. 1909 (Italy, 2019-2023) and C.R. Vasco da Gama (Brazil, 2023-24).

Became a father for the 1st and 2nd time at age 17 when his (now ex) girlfriend Alejandra Henríquez gave birth to twins Gary Stevens and Alejandro Isaac on June 22, 2005.

International with Chile National Football Team since 2007. Member of the Copa América 2011, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021 and the South Africa '10 and Brazil '14 squads.

Became a father for the 3rd time at age 21 when his ex girlfriend Fernanda Reyes gave birth to daughter Agustina Medel on December 4, 2008.
