“The Wheel of Time” has run out its run at Prime Video. The Rosamund Pike-led adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson will not return for Season 4 at the streaming platform, TheWrap has learned.

The news comes after Prime Video announced the renewal of its other big-budget drama series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for Season 3. Amid industry contraction, high-budget fantasy dramas seem prone for the chopping block across linear and streaming. “The Wheel of Time” is believed to have been too expensive to justify given its viewership performance.

“The Wheel Of Time” launched strong, becoming Prime Video’s most-watched series premiere of 2021 and one of the platform’s top debuts of all time. Season 3 saw its viewership slip, leaving Nielsen’s top 10 originals chart after three weeks, before making one last appearance after the launch of its finale.

The decision, which comes more than a month after the Season 3 finale was released April 17, followed lengthy deliberations. As often is the case in the current economic environment, the reasons were financial as the series is liked creatively by the streamer’s executives.

The TV adaptation of the book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, co-produced by Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, is a high-end, pricey fantasy drama, which ushered in the genre on Prime Video, later joined by The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power.

Exclusive: We hear that 1923 actress Natalie Grace has joined the cast of Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s Lee Cronin’s The Mummy along with young thespians Shylo Molina and Billie Roy.

The pic, which stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Veronica Falcón, May Calamawy and May Elghety, is currently lensing in Spain and Ireland. Cronin is at the helm as both writer and director, and producing under his Doppelgängers banner. Pic’s logline is under wraps (ba-dum chsh!).

Last week, we reported on a curious development in the ongoing story of The Wheel of Time. During the show's third season, showrunner Rafe Judkins confirmed that the show has already introduced a secret member of the Forsaken, the ancient channelers sworn to the Shadow who serve as some of the primary antagonists for the series.

"We’ve definitely laid the pieces for a few Forsaken to appear in next season who are new and maybe not so new that you will be excited to see on screen," Judkins toldThe Hollywood Reporter.

Let’s just say it: The Wheel of Time’s third season was its best so far.

So, why in the world hasn’t Amazon done the smart thing and gotten the ball moving on the next season yet?

First, it has to be said that the show has only gotten more amazing and exciting as the series has progressed. Of course, that’s obvious since the show is still going.

The Wheel of Time season 3 just came to an end with the release of episode 8, "He Who Comes With the Dawn." It was an incredible episode with lots of moving parts, epic sequences, and surprises, honestly, that I was not expecting to see.

I shared the major plot points of The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 8 and how it sets up The Wheel of Time season 4. Ultimately, I think there are four important points that casual fans like me need to remember as we leave The Wheel of Time season 3 behind.

It's been a winding road, but we've arrived at the season finale for The Wheel of Time. Across its third season, Prime Video's epic fantasy show has captured our hearts and blown our minds with its drama, action, ambition, romance and scope. We began in the city of Tar Valon, where the Black Ajah made a bloody escape and our young heroes from Emond's Field went their separate ways. From there we went to the deserts of the Aiel Waste, the forests of the Two Rivers, and the hills of Tanchico. It's been quite a ride, and it's all led to this.

"He Who Comes With The Dawn" is a powerful finale, but it's also the episode I've been anticipating will most divide fans, especially those who have read Robert Jordan's books. Because while this is a rock solid hour of television, it makes bold choices.

The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin taking the helm of a new movie from Blumhouse/Atomic Monster. With production now underway in Ireland, the studio has announced that three new cast members have been added to the project.

Joining the previoulsy announced Jack Reynor and Laia Costa in the lead roles will be Veronica Falcón, May Calamawy, and May Elghety.

Falcón recently appeared in Blumhouse’s supernatural thriller Imaginary, directed by Jeff Wadlow, and also played “Trader Sam” opposite Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Other notable film credits include The Starling, Days of Grace, Voyagers opposite Colin Farrell, and The Forever Purge.

Calamawy will be best-known to Cbm fans for playing the “Scarlet Scarab” in Marvel's Moon Knight Disney+ series, and has also appeared in Hulu's Emmy-winning comedy series Ramy.

Universal was planning to launch the Dark Universe, which was set to debut with 2017's The Mummy, and create an McU-like joint universe that would feature characters like Wolf Man, Dracula, The Invisible Man, and more. However, following the release of The Mummy and its poor reception, Universal canceled the universe. Leigh Whannell later revived the plans following the success of his 2020's The Invisible Man, and returned to the universe with 2025's Wolf Man. The upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time has released its first official trailer ahead of its March 13, 2025 premiere. The new season is based on Robert Jordan’s fourth book of his bestselling series, The Shadow Rising, and leads up to the prophesied final battle.

Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Edgar Ramirez (“Emilia Perez”) and Jack Farthing (“Spencer”) will star in “Next Life” from writer-director Drake Doremus (“Like Crazy”), L.A. and London-based production and management company 42, Mutressa and Fetisoff Illusion have announced.

“Next Life” tells the love story of Ivy (Emilia Clarke), who finds herself confronted with parallel universes in which her life unspools in very different ways set against the modern London jazz scene.

Mutressa’s Elika Portnoy, Gleb Fetisov of Fetisoff Illusion and 42’s Ben Pugh and Kate Buckley are producing alongside Doremus. John Palfery Smith will also produce. Production is currently underway in London and set to wrap in late December. CAA Media Finance is representing worldwide rights.
