Glenn McGrath

Editar
  • He holds most bowling records in ICC Cricket World Cup, including most wickets, most wickets in a single tournament, best bowling figures, bowling average and most maiden overs.
  • Father of James (b. 2000) and Holly (b. 2002).
  • Professional cricket player.
  • McGrath won Player of the tournament award in ICC Cricket World Cup (2007).
  • Mcgrath holds a unique record of picking a wicket of his last ball of Test career, last ball of ODI career and last ball of t20 career.
  • In 2002 Glenn and Jane founded the McGrath Foundation, a breast cancer support and education charity in Australia, which raises money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia and increase breast awareness in young women. Since 2007, the third day of the first Test held in Sydney Cricket Ground is named Jane McGrath Day, even if the day is washed out. Following the death of Jane in June 2008, Glenn accepted the voluntary role of Chairman of the Board of the McGrath Foundation, and he participates in many activities in support of the Foundation to ensure the fulfilment of its vision.
  • McGrath holds the record for dismissing the most batsmen for ducks in test cricket (104).
  • McGrath was most successful fast bowler with 563 wickets. This record was surpassed by England's James Anderson in 2018.
  • McGrath alongside fellow Australians Shane Warne as well as Dennis Lillee and Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan are the only 4 bowlers to be voted amongst Wisden's top-10 best of both tests and ODIs. He was ranked the 4th greatest in ODIs behind Wasim Akram, Allan Donald and Waqar Younis and 8th greatest in tests, just ahead of Imran Khan and Courtney Walsh.
  • Formed an exceptionally successful bowling partnership with spin legend Shane Warne. In the 104 tests they played together, they shared 1001 wickets between them.
  • Dismissed star West Indies batsman Brian Lara 15 times in 37 innings, including twice for a duck. However, McGrath also remarked that Lara was the most dangerous batsman he ever came across as the West Indian also accumulated 621 runs, which equals over a fifth of his total runs tally against Australia, facing McGrath alone who for most of Lara's career was the best bowler in the world.
  • Was dismissed for a golden duck on both his test and ODI debuts.
  • McGrath played in only 20 tests lost by Australia, taking 87 wickets. His average of 23.89 in the lost matches is best amongst all bowlers irrespective of the number of wickets taken.
  • Represented Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural season of Indian Premier League in 2008. The side was eventually beaten in the semi-finals by eventual champions Rajasthan Royals, who were captained by fellow Australian and Mcgrath's long-term bowling partner Shane Warne.
  • At the beginning of the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy in 2000, he stated in interviews before the match that he would dismiss opener Sherwin Campbell for his 299th wicket, then remove premier batsman Brian Lara for his 300th wicket the very next ball. This happened as planned, and he followed this with the dismissal of captain Jimmy Adams to complete a memorable hat-trick.
  • In the finals of the 2003 World Cup at Johannesburg, he took both the first wicket of premier batsman Sachin Tendulkar in just the very first over of the Indian innings as well as the match winning final wicket of pacer Zaheer Khan in the 40th.
