Jon and Daenerys arrive in Winterfell and are met with skepticism. Sam learns about the fate of his family. Cersei gives Euron the reward he aims for. Theon follows his heart.

SPOILER: Jon and Daenerys have a cold reception in Winterfell. Jon meets his brother and sisters and rides the dragons with Daenerys. Then she discloses to Sam the fate of his father and brother. When Jon meets Sam, he discloses who his parents are. Euron Greyjoy meets Cersei to collect his recompense for joining to her army. Theon rescues his sister Yara and decides to go to Winterfell. Reaching Winterfell with their combined army and impressive dragons, Jon and Daenerys learn the Army of the Dead breached the Wall and the Night King commands the undead Viserion. The Northern Houses and their allies rally around Winterfell but distrust Daenerys, scold Jon for ceding her his crown and duly doubt Cersei's pledge to send troops. Euron returns to King's Landing with the mercenary Golden Company, smaller then hoped and without elephants, and entices Cersei to consummate their union. Cersei, through Qyburn, hires Bronn to assassinate Tyrion and Jaime if they don't fall on the field. Theon rescues chained 'queen' Yara, who sets out to retake the Iron Islands, telling Theon to return at Winterfell to Jon, who welcomes him warmly, like Arya, only Sansa remains an icy skeptic. Jon and Daenerys ride the dragons, deepening their bond. Daenerys wants to reward Sam for saving Jorah then realizes that she executed his father and brother. Sam tells Jon he is actually the Iron Throne heir, born Aegon Targaryen. Sent to help evacuate House Umber's seat Last Hearth, Tormund and Beric encounter Edd's now superfluous Night's Watch garrison but find the castle's occupants dead, and the wight of Ned Umber is left as a gruesome message. Euron returns to King's Landing with the Golden Company and entices Cersei to consummate their union. Cersei, through Qyburn, hires Bronn to assassinate Tyrion and Jaime. Theon rescues Yara, who then sets out to retake the Iron Islands, while Theon returns to Winterfell. There, Jon is reunited with Arya. Jon and Daenerys ride the dragons and deepen their bond. Daenerys wants to reward Sam for saving Jorah before realizing that she executed his father and brother. Sam tells Jon that he was born Aegon Targaryen and is the true heir to the Iron Throne. At House Umber, Tormund and Beric encounter Edd and other Night's Watch members. The castle's occupants dead, and the wight of Ned Umber is left as a gruesome message. Jaime arrives at Winterfell where Bran awaits him.

Daenerys Targaryen and her forces arrive at Winterfell. Bran Stark reveals to Daenerys and Jon that the Night King has reanimated Viserion and breached the Wall. Lyanna Mormont and the other lords express displeasure towards Jon for swearing fealty to a Targaryen. This tension is magnified when Tyrion declares that the Lannister army will soon march north too; Sansa fears that the combined forces might overstretch their supplies, but in private implies to Tyrion that she does not believe Cersei will send her army.

Qyburn informs Cersei Lannister that the White Walkers have breached the Wall. Euron Greyjoy arrives with Yara Greyjoy as his prisoner. Euron and Cersei start a relationship. Qyburn visits Bronn and presents him with the crossbow Tyrion used to assassinate his father Tywin Lannister. Should Jaime and Tyrion survive the war against the dead, Cersei wants Bronn to assassinate them.

Theon Greyjoy secretly boards Euron's flagship in the night and frees his sister Yara. Yara decides to retake the Iron Islands while Euron is distracted by matters in King's Landing. With Yara's permission, Theon journeys to Winterfell to fight the undead.

Arya reunites with Jon, Gendry, and the Hound. Davos Seaworth suggests to Tyrion and Varys that the Northerners could be won over by betrothing Jon and Daenerys. Jon and Daenerys ride Drogon and Rhaegal, deepening their bond. Later, Sansa accuses Jon of bending the knee out of love for Daenerys.

Samwell Tarly meets Daenerys, who thanks him for curing Jorah of his greyscale, but after discovering his identity admits that she executed his father, Randyll, and his brother, Dickon. Bran instructs a heartbroken Samwell to tell Jon about his true Targaryen heritage as Prince Aegon Targaryen, the news of which leaves Jon stunned.

Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion lead their party into House Umber's seat of Last Hearth, where they find young Lord Ned Umber dead and impaled to a wall. Tormund declares that they must reach Winterfell before the Night King. Ned reanimates as a wight, and Beric burns him with his flaming sword.

Jaime Lannister arrives at Winterfell and is shocked when he encounters Bran in the courtyard, waiting for him.
