Dom and the crew must take on an international terrorist who turns out to be Dom and Mia's estranged brother.

In 1989, Jack Toretto (J. D. Pardo) - father of Dom (Vin Diesel), Jakob (John Cena) and Mia (Jordana Brewster) - participates in a late model race, with his sons working in the pit crew. Dom argues with rival racer Kenny Linder (Jim Parrack) about his dirty tactics. During the race, Linder's car clips Jack's bumper, causing his car to crash and burn, killing him. A week after, Dom is arrested for beating Linder to near death. While serving his sentence, he recalls that Jakob had worked on their father's car the day he died and concludes that Jakob killed their father. Upon release, Dom confronts and challenges Jakob to a race, forcing him to leave town when he loses.

In 2019, two years after the confrontation against Cyber-terrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron), Dom is retired and raising his son Brian with his wife, Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) arrive with news that, shortly after arresting Cipher, Mr. Nobody's (Kurt Russell) (an intelligence operative and the leader of a covert ops team) plane was attacked by rogue agents, who abducted Cipher, and crashed in Montequinto, Central America. Dom agrees to help them after realizing Jakob is involved.

Dom & the team reach the plane crash site. Searching the plane, they find part of a device named Project Aries, which can hack into any computer-controlled system. The team is then ambushed by a private army led by Jakob, who steals the device (after a long car chase through a minefield); Michael Stasiak (Shea Whigham) helps Dom's crew escape to their safe house. Ramses is able to Decrypt Mr Nobody's encrypted SOS signal and gets a set of GPS coordinates. She also reveals that if Aries is uploaded to a satellite, it can hack the entire planets computers. Mr Nobody has split the Aries prototype into 2 halves. Jakob has 1 piece now. The pieces require a key for activation. Tej reveals that he found Han's file in Mr Nobody's transmission. Dom's sister Mia arrives to help, and Dom reluctantly allows her to join them. The team learns that Han Lue (Sung Kang) (a member of Dom's team who was believed to have been killed) is connected to Project Aries, and Letty and Mia go to Tokyo to investigate.

Meanwhile, Jakob meets with Otto (Thue Ersted Rasmussen), his associate and financier. Cipher (who was taken off Mr Nobody's plane before it crashed), who is being held at their base, tells Jakob that the other half of Aries is in Edinburgh. Cipher says Aries is a weapon so powerful that it should not even exist for the next 50 years.

Dom meets his father's former mechanic, Buddy (Michael Rooker), who took Jakob in after his exile, and learns that Jakob is in London. In Tokyo, Letty and Mia find a still-alive Han, along with his ward, Elle (Anna Sawai) (a girl whose scientist parents who were involved in the Aries project were killed when she was young).

Roman and Tej recruit Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), Twinkie (Shad Moss), and Earl Hu (Jason Tobin), who have been working on a "rocket car". In London, Dom meets Deckard and Owen Shaw's mother Queenie (Helen Mirren), who gives him Jakob's location. Dom confronts Otto and Jakob; Otto has Dom arrested, but Leysa (Cardi B), an old friend of Dom, rescues him.

Tej, Roman, and Ramsey join Dom in Edinburgh, where Jakob is using an electromagnet (to shut all all cameras in a limited radius) to steal the other half of the Project Aries device. Tej and Roman find the truck containing the electromagnet; as they fight Otto's men, Ramsey commandeers the truck to chase after Otto. Dom intercepts Jakob (who had broken into the vault and stolen the 2nd piece) and the two fight throughout the city. Before Otto can extract Jakob, Ramsey runs his car off the road and uses the electromagnet to capture Jakob.

At the safe house, Han reveals that he was assigned by Mr. Nobody to protect Elle (Gisele (Gal Gadot) used to work for Mr Nobody and he trusted her. Since Gisele trusted Han, Mr Nobody came to him after Gisele died) and Project Aries, as Elle's DNA is its activation key (Elle's parents designed Aries and to protect it from falling into the wrong hands, they encoded it with their DNA, which now only Elle has, as the parents were killed by Otto's men when they tried to steal the Aries). When one of Mr. Nobody's agents, later revealed to be Jakob, went rogue, they used Deckard Shaw to fake Han's death and protect Elle. Otto attacks the safe-house and frees Jakob, who reveals to Dom that their father, wanting to escape his debts, was attempting to throw the race on which he died, and had instructed Jakob to tamper with his car. Jakob and Otto kidnap Elle and take the other half of the Project Aries device.

Otto and Jakob leave and order Dom and his team to be killed, but Ramsey activates the Electromagnet to disarm Otto's men, giving them a chance to escape. Dom fights Otto's men while the others escape, and Dom is captured.

Otto launches a satellite into orbit, while Jakob has Elle activate Aries. They begin uploading Aries to the satellite, moving throughout Tbilisi in an armored 16-wheeler. Dom, Letty, Mia, Ramsey, and Han race to stop the upload. As Mia and Han try to breach the truck, Otto betrays Jakob (by replacing Jakob with Cipher), throwing him off the truck. Dom and Mia save Jakob, and he helps Dom access the truck. Using the rocket car, Tej and Roman enter orbit and destroy the satellite, stopping the upload. Cipher, now working alongside Otto, bombs the truck using a UAV in an attempt to kill Dom, unintentionally killing Otto; Dom uses the ricocheting truck to destroy Cipher's drone, forcing her to escape again. Dom and Mia reconcile with Jakob, before he escapes. Tej and Roman reach the International Space Station (as they had not enough fuel left to safely return to Earth) and are safely returned to earth.

The team celebrates their success with a barbecue at Dom's house. While preparing to say grace, Brian O'Conner arrives in the driveway. Han comes face-to-face with Deckard, shocked to see him alive.
