Why The Pretty Little Liars Spin-Off Ravenswood Was Canceled After One Season
Image
I. Marlene King's mega-hit teen drama, "Pretty Little Liars," opens with a straightforward pilot episode. In the episode's cold open, a young girl goes missing during a sleepover, setting the stage for a one-year time-jump revolving around the other girls who were there when it happened. The missing girl, Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), still hasn't been found, but her friends collectively receive threatening messages from a certain "A," who seems to know a lot about each of their deepest, darkest secrets. With time, we (along with the girls) learn more about that fateful night, along with the central group's complicated dynamics with one another, especially with the mean-spirited Alicent. There's plenty of drama and intrigue to unwrap here, as this is a show that hinges on snappy dialogue and red herrings to create a convoluted mystery with no obvious solutions.

As confusing and thematically iffy as "Pretty Little Liars" can be at times,...

I'm Rewatching Pretty Little Liars, & 1 Major Flaw Ruins the Whole Show
Image
Quick LinksPretty Little Liars Was a 2010s GemThe Plot Was Interesting…But MessyThe Relationships in Pll Ruin the Charm

I recently knew someone who claimed he never lied. It was a large part of his personality, but that, in itself, was a lie. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been that surprised when I found out, and I honestly don't know if I was surprised or just hurt. Everyone lies at some point in their life. I assume it's just part of human nature. We may lie for many reasons, whether it's a lie for self-preservation, a fib to spare someone's feelings, or a massive lie just because we can.

Perhaps that's why so many successful teen drama shows feature storylines where the characters lie and cause trouble. I grew up with some people calling me a liar for simple miscommunications and even a "devil child" for just being a misunderstood kid.

The 10 Best Female Actors In Hallmark Christmas Movies, Ranked
Image
If you watch a lot of Hallmark holiday movies, you'll notice faces that reappear over and over again. Hallmark is nothing if not reliant on safe, predictable storytelling, and this tendency extends to the people they hire to act in their made-for-tv films -- once you've proven that you can provide a stable, likable presence in a lead role, they'll keep on booking you.

But while Hallmark male stars need to personify whatever romantic fantasy Hallmark is selling -- whether that's sensitive, or caring, or supporting, or rugged, or good at fighting fires -- their actresses have an altogether different responsibility. Since a large portion of the Hallmark viewership is made up of women, these actresses need to be aspirational and, above all else, relatable. We need to be able to see ourselves in them, which isn't as easy a task as it sounds. So when they find a performer who can do it well,...

Warning: This article contains Major Spoilers for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, episode 8, "Chapter Eighteen: Final Exam"

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School reveals Bloody Rose as Mrs. Langsberry, highlighting a rushed villain reveal trend in the spinoff series. Pretty Little Liar's "Bloody Rose" Proves The Spinoff Has A Big Villain Advantage Over The Og Show
Image
"Bloody Rose" is Pretty Little Liar: Summer School's villain and she continues the trend of terrifying villains on the show. Summer School replicates the horror-inspired tones of Original Sin, promising an exciting season. Pll on Max's success in creating superior villains sets it apart from the original series.

Haley Lu Richardson Is Currently Single - Relive Her Dating History
Haley Lu Richardson has a number of popular works under her belt. The 28-year-old star launched her acting career in the early 2010s, landing one of her first roles in the Disney Channel sitcom "Shake It Up," alongside Zendaya and Bella Thorne. The exposure from "Shake It Up" helped open the doors for Richardson to take on other film and TV projects throughout the mid-2010s, including the films "The Edge of Seventeen" and M. Night Shyamalan's "Split," as well as shows like "Ravenswood" and "Recovery Road." Most notably, Richardson starred as Portia in season two of HBO's acclaimed series "The White Lotus." She also portrayed Hadley Sullivan in the Netflix rom-com "Love at First Sight," which hit the streamer on Sept. 15.

When she isn't working, Richardson keeps her personal life out of the spotlight. The actor has only publicly dated one person: former "Jane the Virgin" star Brett Dier.

Great TV Shows That Are Actually Spinoffs
Image
Spinoffs are a great way for showrunners to recreate the magic of the original, and they continue to be popular even today. Several offshoots of shows, like House of The Dragon and The Originals, have become widely loved, but they will always be remembered as spinoffs. There are also certain TV shows that originated from another show, but it is easy to forget that they are actually spinoffs.

These range from sitcoms to dramas and have become so beloved and critically acclaimed that the source material has become disassociated with them. Some of them take place in very different environments from the original and have too big of a universe of their own to be connected with the original. However, there is no doubt that these shows have taken the best of both worlds and given audiences something worthwhile to watch.

Why Haley Lu Richardson Turned Down the Role of Dani in Ari Aster's Midsommar
Image
One of the latest rising stars of young Hollywood, Haley Lu Richardson has graced the silver screen and television with a relatively small but quality body of work. The twenty-eight-year-old Phoenix native kindled her passion for acting while participating in school productions, an extracurricular activity that would then turn into a career. Two years after her move to Hollywood at age 16, Richardson appeared recurrently in ABC Family’s Ravenswood, a supernatural teen drama that follows the residents of a town burdened with a long-standing curse.

Though the series was canceled after only one season, Richardson was promptly able to land a role in another ABC original pilot (which failed to air) as well as appearing opposite Zendaya and Bella Thorne in Disney’s Shake It Up. A series of recurring roles eventually gave way to a supporting role in The Edge of Seventeen as Krista, the eBay friend of Nadine...

‘I kind of become possessed when my cat Darbin is around’: Haley Lu Richardson on The White Lotus, narcissism and her precious pet
Image
Haley Lu Richardson is issuing me with a warning. “I’m looking rough!” cries the actor, as she turns her camera on. What appears on the screen is actually very sweet: a rosy-cheeked 27-year-old covered in stickers. There’s a purple star stuck to the right of her nose, and a green one on her forehead. She’s nestled in the centre of a white fluffy beanbag and surrounded by houseplants – standing, hanging, trailing – in various wicker containers. Her screen name reads “h poopy”.

When I ask about the stars, Richardson is dumbfounded. “You don’t know zit stickers?!” she squeals. “Oh my gosh, they’re honestly the coolest thing since sliced bread. You can also get flowers with little rhinestones, Hello Kitty ones, SpongeBob ones, rainbow ones… it’s just amazing because it makes having acne fun!!!” It’s half past eight in the morning for Richardson, who’s in her apartment in California,...

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin renewed for season 2

Based on the novel series by Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars gathered a passionate following over its seven-season run. It spawned two spin-offs, Ravenswood and The Perfectionists, but both were cancelled after a single season. Thankfully, the latest Pretty Little Liars spin-off has had better luck. HBO Max announced today that they have renewed Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin for season 2.

HBO Max’s ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ Embraces Teen Slasher Tropes to Blunt, Addictive Effect: TV Review
Image
For a certain generation of TV watchers, the theme song for “Pretty Little Liars” scratches an itch like no other. The original series, which ran for seven seasons on ABC Family before the channel became Freeform, began each episode with the lilting melodies of the Pierces’ “Secret” over pristine images of the main quartet in their funereal finest, making winking eye contact with the camera in order to shush it. The stage thus set, TV’s first iteration of Sara Shepard’s novels was slick, if not exactly subtle.

Now, after two previous tries at spinoffs (“The Perfectionists” and “Ravenswood”) failed to launch, a new attempt at reviving the franchise has arrived in the form of “Original Sin.” Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” the drama follows in its predecessor’s footsteps by establishing its tone straight from its evocative opening-credits sequence.

How HBO Max's "Pretty Little Liars" Reboot Is (and Isn't) Connected to the Original Series
Image
HBO Max is getting ready to try its hand at yet another spinoff of the popular Freeform teenage drama series "Pretty Little Liars," and the first look alone has sent chills down our spines. Could this be the first "Pll" spinoff that goes the distance?

Titled "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin," the forthcoming reboot will follow a fresh bunch of Liars who scramble their way out of a series of troubles that befall them when an unknown Assailant - notoriously dubbed A - threatens to unearth their well-buried secrets. The original mystery drama, which adapts Sara Shepard's YA book series of the same name, ran on Freeform from 2010 to 2017. It spawned two failed spinoffs - 2013's "Ravenswood" and its 2019 follow-up, "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" - both of which were canceled after one season. Since the previous two shows in the Pretty Little Liars universe have direct ties with the parent series,...

‘A’ Is Back in ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ Trailer
Image
A new generation of liars are up to no good in the first trailer for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” premiering this summer on HBO Max.

A sequel to the popular 2010 ABC Family/Freeform teen drama “Pretty Little Liars” — based on Sara Shepard’s book series of the same name — “Original Sin” follows the chronology of the original show, which ran for seven seasons and 160 episodes, but focuses on a completely new set of teenagers in a new town

Bailee Madison, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Chandler Kinney and Zaria play the five main characters: Imogen, Minnie, Noa, Tabby and Faran, a group of friends tormented by “A” — an anonymous identity assumed by villains in the original series. Whereas the As from the original show harassed the girls with their personal secrets, this A is going after the friend group for the mistakes their mothers committed while they were in high school.

Pretty Little Liars Original Sin: HBO Max Drops Teaser and Premiere Date
Troian Bellisario, Sasha Pieterse, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell in Pretty Little Liars (2010)
A new generation of Pretty Little Liars gets underway next month.

HBO Max announced Wednesday that Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will touch down Thursday, July 28.

Three new episodes will be available on premiere day, with two new episodes each on August 4 and 11 and the final three episodes debuting August 18.

It's not a bad rollout strategy.

The original series suffered from spoon-feeding the answers over the course of massive seasons.

Dropping more than one episode a week should be enough to keep fans satisfied.

"Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart," reads the official description.

"Now, in present day, a disparate group of teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin committed by their parents two decades ago...as well as their own."

"In the dark,...

Bailee Madison
Bailee Madison has been cast in a lead role in HBO Max’s upcoming “Pretty Little Liars” reboot, the streamer announced Tuesday.

The “Good Witch” actress will star as Imogen, who is described as “a true survivor” by HBO Max. “Like all of the Liars, Imogen is a final girl. She will drive the mystery of uncovering ‘A’ as she fights for her life and the lives of her friends.”

She will star opposite Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco, who were announced as the show’s first two leads earlier this month.

Titled “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” the series is set within the same universe as the Freeform hit but centers on a different set of characters in a new town. The project is the fourth entry in the “Pretty Little Liars” franchise, following the flagship series (which ran for seven seasons) and the short-lived spinoffs “Ravenswood” and “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.

Pretty Little Liars Reboot Casts Two Leads
Troian Bellisario, Sasha Pieterse, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell in Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Pretty Little Liars will return to stalk a new group of teenagers with its upcoming reboot.

HBO Max has added Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco to the cast of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

Kinney will play Tabby, an aspiring director and horror movie buff.

Like the other Little Liars, Tabby’s hiding a secret.

Maia Reficco will play Noa, a striving, sardonic track star who's working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention.

It's hard to believe Pretty Little Liars is being rebooted, but maybe the move to streaming will give the franchise a bigger scope.

HBO Max has given a direct-to-series order to a “Pretty Little Liars” reboot from “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the streaming service said Thursday.

Titled “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” the show will be set in a new town and follow a “new generation” of liars, but exist in the same universe as the Freeform series created by I. Marlene King and based on the novel series of the same name written by Sara Shepard. King is not involved in the reboot.

Image
A new generation of “Pretty Little Liars” is officially on its way.

HBO Max has issued a straight-to-series order for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” a reboot of the original Freeform series. New of the order comes only three weeks after the project was announced as being in development. The show hails from “Riverdale” producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” producer Lindsay Calhoon Bring.

Set in the present day, 20 years after a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart, the new “Pretty Little” liars will center around a group of disparate teen girls who find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Pretty Little Liars Reboot In Development From Riverdale Creator
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Sir, it’s the reboots. They’re getting…they’re getting faster.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riverdale creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is developing a reboot of Freeform’s pulpy high school hit Pretty Little Liars. This comes just only three years after the show wrapped up its seven-season run in 2017.

This new Pretty Little Liars project will center on a new story with new characters. No network has been attached yet but it is believed that HBO Max is the most likely destination. This makes sense given that Pretty Little Liars is a Warner Bros. TV property. There is no additional information regarding a production date at press time but Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will reportedly executive produce the drama alongside Aguirre-Sacasa. It is unknown if original series creator I. Marlene King will return in any capacity.

Pretty Little Liars is indeed a pretty important property for Warner Bros.

Riverdale's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Developing Pretty Little Liars Reboot
Troian Bellisario, Sasha Pieterse, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell in Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Pretty Little Liars is poised to return.

The beloved Freeform hit, which lasted seven seasons, before signing off in 2017, is getting a reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The news comes one year after the second spinoff, Pll: The Perfectionists, got the pink slip from Freeform after a single season.

The updated iteration is said to feature a new story and characters, which makes sense when you consider that the original series wrapped only a few years ago.

It's unlikely the new take will arrive at Freeform, with THR saying a likely home is HBO Max, which holds the exclusive rights to the original series.

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is leading the new series, and will also write the script.

Alloy Entertainment's Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo is on board to exec produce the drama alongside Aguirre-Sacasa.

No other details have been revealed, including whether series creator I. Marlene King...

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Reboot in the Works From ‘Riverdale’ Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Riverdale (2017)
“Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on a reboot of Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars,” TheWrap has learned.

Aguirre-Sacasa’s take on the teen drama, which was created by I. Showrunner of both The CW’s “Riverdale” and Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Aguirre-Sacasa will executive produce the potential reboot series alongside Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

No platform is attached to the reboot, which is still in the early stages of development and has not been taken out to the marketplace yet.

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Reboot From ‘Riverdale’ Creator in Early Development

A reboot of the Freeform series “Pretty Little Liars” is in the early stages of development at Warner Bros. Television, Variety has confirmed.

Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will serve as executive producers on the project, as Alloy controls the rights to the series.
