Asian horror aficionados are familiar with Indonesian director Bobby Prasetyo’s work, his recent horror projects have gained acclaim for their diverse, experimentative setup and exploration of the country’s sociocultural and religious boundaries. His latest venture, Kuasa Gelap, aka Dominion of Darkness, treads into relatively unexplored territory (at least in the Asian horror scene) of traditional Catholic exorcism. This might feel like a breath of fresh air to fans who want to see old-school formulaic Hollywood horror against an Asian backdrop, as the movie draws heavy inspiration from The Exorcist and even all its sequels. While the serious lack of scare factor might discourage viewers during the initial part of the movie, the way the narrative incorporates discourse on faith, emotional burdens, and mental health with the horror surely deserves a watch. Indonesian Horror Film ‘Dominion Of Darkness’ Sells To 53 Countries, Surpasses 1.4 Million Admissions At Domestic Box Office

Exclusive: Indonesian horror film Dominion of Darkness has sold to 53 territories, including Taiwan (MovieCloud), Vietnam (Noori), Thailand (Shinesaeng Ad.Venture), the Philippines (Pioneer), Latin America (Mundo) and Russia (The World Pictures).

Since premiering on October 3 at the Indonesian box office, Dominion of Darkness (also known as Kuasa Gelap) has notched more than 1.4 million admissions within 20 days, making the film the sixth Indonesian horror release in 2024 to reach this milestone.

Starring Jerome Kurnia, Lukman Sardi, Astrid Tiar, Lea Ciarachel, JKT48’s Freya and Delia Husein, the film follows a young Catholic priest who encounters a case of a girl whose descent into demonic possession is a chilling reminder of his late sister.

International sales for Dominion of Darkness were handled by Mokster Films.

Directed by Bobby Prasetyo, Dominion of Darkness is produced by Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment, with co-production by Anami Films, Nuon Digital Indonesia, Legacy Pictures, Netzme, and Kmif.

Former WME Independent Agent Nelson Mok Starts Investment & Sales Company Mokster Films

Former WME Independent agent Nelson Mok is launching a new investment and sales company named Mokster Films, which will focus on projects from Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Partnering with media executive Ricky Ow, Mokster Films will specialize in international sales for Asia-produced content, alongside the development and financing of films from around the region. Mokster Films will be at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, where it will unveil projects from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand.

Through Mokster Films, Mok will continue to work with WME Independent as a partner on a slate of current titles.

“Nelson is a leading exec in the Southeast Asian region with a great eye for material,” said WME Independent co-head Alex Walton. “We have had real success working with Nelson over the past few years and we look forward to continue the work in this new capacity.”

Former Endeavor Content and WME Independent executive Nelson Mok has joined forces with Asian TV veteran Ricky Ow to launch Mokster Films. The company positions itself as an investment and sales company for Asia-produced content.

The company will be involved in rights sales, film development and film financing. Its “strategic emphasis is on the growth of the film industry across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan,” the company said. Mokster and Mok will also continue to work as a partner to WME Independent on a slate of current titles.

Mokster Films will be at the Cannes Market next week, where it expects to unveil projects at development and casting stage from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand.
