Veronika Hofer is faced with a difficult decision: after the tragic accidental death of her husband, should she take over the management of the family's 4-star hotel or withdraw from the business? She decides to accept the challenge and run the hotel - much to the displeasure of her domineering and scheming mother-in-law, Dora. When Veronika finds a charming admirer in the hotel guest Sebastian Claasen, she has no idea that he is actually supposed to be spying on the "Schwarzwaldhof" for the takeover by a large corporation - a welcome opportunity for Dora to boot out her daughter-in-law. In the family film of the same name, everything revolves around the "Schwarzwaldhof" hotel, the focal point and point of contention for everyone involved, such as: Saskia Vester, Rosel Zech, Oliver Stokowski, Tim Morten Uhlenbrock and Miriam Morgenstern. Veronika Hofer, married and mother of two almost grown children, is at a crossroads in her life: After her husband Curt had an affair, the couple grew apart, and although they still get along well, Veronika now wants to take the decisive step and leave her husband . She also wants to finally retire from working in the family's 4-star hotel. But then Curt dies in a tragic hiking accident - and so Veronika is suddenly faced with the decision of whether she should stick to her decision as the main heir and turn her back on the hotel. To the great surprise of her family, she decides to take up the challenge and take over the running of the business. Above all, Curt's stepmother Dora is anything but enthusiastic about the project. The strict family patriarch had hoped to finally be rid of her unloved daughter-in-law and to be able to run the "Schwarzwaldhof" according to her own ideas. Therefore, she lets Veronika, who is still inexperienced in management issues, feel very clearly how unwelcomed she is in the hotel. But with diligence, willpower and ambition, Veronika quickly manages to familiarize herself with everyday hotel life. While her daughter Merle also lends a hand in the "Schwarzwaldhof", Veronika's rebellious son Stefan threatens to ruin his own future with illegal business. Meanwhile, Veronika finds a very charming admirer in hotel guest Sebastian Claasen. What she doesn't know: Sebastian is no ordinary tourist, but is supposed to spy on the house on behalf of a large hotel chain for a takeover. In his offer, Dora finally sees her chance to get rid of Veronika once and for all - she would rather sell the traditional hotel than share the management with her daughter-in-law. Only when it is almost too late does Veronika find out about Sebastian's plan and Dora's intrigue. Disappointed, she turns away from Sebastian and takes up the fight against Doris.

After the accidental death of her husband, Veronika Hofer was forced to take over the management of the family hotel in the Black Forest. But now she is the manager of the "Schwarzwaldhof" with heart and soul. Everything has also turned out well in my private life, as Veronika's new partner, the hotel specialist Sebastian Claasen, is moving from Hamburg to her in the Black Forest. But the idyll is deceptive: while Veronika's son Stefan gets along very well with Sebastian, daughter Merle doesn't like it at all that her mother got involved with a man again so soon after the death of her beloved father. She also doesn't trust Sebastian - Merle is convinced that he's only after her mother's money and is trying to grab the hotel. Merle's grandmother Dora, who still uses every opportunity to get at her daughter-in-law, has similar fears. When Veronika wants to tap into the family's financial reserves to pay for the expensive renovation of the hotel, it turns out that Dora has almost completely plundered the family bank account. And now the old lady steadfastly refuses to reveal the whereabouts of all the money. Veronika is completely in despair, as the future of the "Schwarzwaldhof" depends on the success of the renovation. What nobody suspects: Dora is addicted to gambling, she gambled away all her money playing roulette. Meanwhile, Merle finds out through Sebastian's son Tom, who is visiting the "Schwarzwaldhof", that Sebastian has been fired from his employer and is in massive financial difficulties due to his divorce. Veronika is amazed when Merle tells her this news. Deeply disappointed by Sebastian's insincerity, she turns away from him. This seems to be the end of the young happiness of the two, even before it really began.

Veronika Hofer can finally breathe a sigh of relief: Ever since her scheming mother-in-law moved to Lugano, she has been in charge of the business at the family grand hotel on her own - with success. Supported by her daughter Merle and her smart son Stefan, she has made the Schwarzwaldhof one of the top addresses in the area. But the idyll does not last long: Veronika's mother, the former operetta singer Lore, has announced that she is coming. There was radio silence between the two women for 25 years. True, Veronika made repeated attempts to contact her mother. But not even after the death of Veronika's husband, Lore, who had only had her career in the USA on her mind all her life, was there for her daughter. So it's no wonder that Veronika isn't particularly happy about Lore's arrival, especially since the eccentric diva apparently wants to stay with her daughter permanently. Veronika has no idea that behind Lore's cheerful attitude, with which she playfully wraps her two grandchildren and the hotel employees around her finger, is a whole series of serious problems: the former stage star is broke, has neither a home nor health insurance, and is being pursued by creditors and suffers from a weak heart. But she doesn't find the courage to confide in her daughter - and as a result is heading straight for a catastrophe. Meanwhile, Veronika finds solace and distraction from family stress with Max Henninger, a trout farmer she hopes to hire as a new supplier for the hotel. From the first, turbulent encounter, there seems to be a very special connection between the two, and the initial friendship quickly develops into a tentative love. But the closer the two get, the more Max seems to pull away. Veronika is puzzled - until she learns that Max's wife was murdered in a robbery. Max still hasn't gotten over her death. Veronika knows that she doesn't stand a chance against the memory of someone who has died - but she doesn't want to give up on Max that easily.

After Veronika has given them her blessing, Merle and Martin, the chef at the Grand Hotel, finally want to get married. Of course, Merle's grandfather, Grandpa Albert, also comes to this festive family celebration. Since the unexpected death of his wife, the lovable senior has felt terribly lonely in Lugano and would prefer to stay permanently with his family at the Schwarzwaldhof. But although her mother Lore takes good care of Albert, who is suffering from dementia, and Merle and Stefan also promise to help care for their grandfather, Veronika is not sure whether this situation can go well in the long run. In fact, everyday stress and private worries soon have them and their children firmly under control again: Shortly after Veronika officially signed a contract with her boyfriend Max and joined his trout farm, an animal disease threatened the entire fish stock and the associated financial burden could also bring the Schwarzwaldhof into great distress. Meanwhile, there are violent jealousies between Merle and Martin because Merle is a little too comfortable with the sympathetic family doctor Dr. core understands. As if that weren't enough, son Stefan with his arrogant hotel manager attitude causes additional tensions everywhere: he wants to turn the family business into a company trimmed for efficiency and in doing so offends the veteran employees badly. They go on go-slow - and not only cause chaos in the hotel, but also trigger a serious crisis between Veronika and Stefan.

Flashback: After a heated argument with his mother, Stefan Hofer accepted a position as manager at the Hotel Wagner, the "Schwarzwaldhof's" fiercest competitor. For Veronika, this departure from the family business is a serious breach of trust. Her partner Max tries in vain to excuse Stefan's behavior as rebellious proof of his independence. Veronika is too disappointed to be satisfied with this explanation, especially since Stefan, stubborn and insecure as he is, does nothing to bridge the gap to his mother. An attempt at reconciliation initiated by Merle also fails: Just at the moment when Stefan dares to attempt reconciliation, Veronika confronts him with a momentous offer: she wants to buy his shares in the Schwarzwaldhof. In her eyes, he cannot work for the competition and at the same time be a partner in the family hotel. Deeply hurt, Stefan accepts the offer and breaks off contact with his mother. He begins to lure the guests away from the Schwarzwaldhof with unfair tricks. It is quite clear that this cannot go well for long: after a complaint, he is fired. From one day to the next he is without a job and without family support, but with a lot of debt, since he has just bought a glamorous condominium. But he is too proud to seek a discussion with his mother. A mediation attempt by Merle's husband, the chef Martin, ends in disaster. The grief with Stefan also affects Veronika's health: diffuse, ever-increasing stomach pains won't let her go. In order not to worry Max, Merle and their employees, she hides her complaints - especially since Max is having big problems herself at the moment; his tragic past catches up with him: the police believe they have finally caught his wife's murderer. However, Max does not want to reopen the old wounds and refuses to cooperate with the investigators.

Business at the Schwarzwaldhof is going well, but the members of the Hofer family have to deal with all sorts of amorous worries and complications. Veronika was finally able to persuade her partner Max to move in with her. Since then, however, Max has felt neglected by the hotel manager, who is always on call. The romantic togetherness gives way more and more to an everyday routine. The arrival of the famous concert pianist Richard Cornelius in the Schwarzwaldhof doesn't make things any easier: the worldly artist turns out to be Veronika's former childhood sweetheart. Even though he knows that she is in safe hands, Cornelius starts flirting with her straight away. No wonder Max is seething with jealousy. Meanwhile, it is exactly the opposite for junior manager Stefan. He fell in love at first sight with the charming Polish woman Ewa, who is applying for a job as a geriatric nurse for his grandfather Albert. Although Veronika's mother Lore would prefer to hire an older and less attractive lady, Albert is also immediately enchanted by Ewa's easy-going manner. Stefan's sister Merle has no butterflies in her stomach. She has to realize that her marriage to chef Martin is at an impasse. The ambitious culinary artist only thinks about his job and stands in the kitchen until late in the evening. In his spare time he is tired and worn out. He tries to reduce the stress with alcohol - and slides straight into addiction. Merle tries in vain to help him. The situation keeps getting worse. Until the desperate Martin sees no way out and makes a dramatic decision.
