Director/writer: Gregory Connors.
Cast: Tonia Renee, Bret Kennedy and Ozzie Devrish.
The premise in Alien Undead aka The Dark Lurking is quite simple: all the survivors have to do is to get out alive. When this tale is set in the world of science fiction, all this movie has to do is to have the heroes call for help, find the Starship Enterprise (the ship here brings forth recollections of the Red Dwarf) and call for Scotty to beam them up. That would end the movie fast.
Instead, what this film does is to continue for approximately 95 minutes including credits. Nobody is going to leave alive and that is too abruptly established at the start. Nobody at Outpost 30 even knows their fate, but that certainly will not stop them from trying to make it up to the surface. Maybe if the eight survivors can get out of the hut,...

Alien Undead
Stars: Tonia Renee, Bret Kennedy, Gregory Connors, Ozzie Devrish, Roslyn van Doorn | Written and Directed by Greg Connors
Originally began in 2006, and completed in 2008 (at least according to the copyright info), Alien Undead was originally released as The Dark Lurking in its native Australia, and Aliens vs. Zombies in Germany (perhaps a more fitting title given UK distributor Left Films other DVD releases – Cowboys vs. Zombies and Ninjas Vs. Vampires). This low budget Aussie-lensed sci-fi horror movie tells the story of eight people trapped in a secret underground research facility, at the mercy of a horde of terrifying zombie-like creatures. With supplies and weapons running low the survivors must put aside their differences and band together in order to find out way out alive. However the constantly mutating monstrous hordes are not their only problem, an ancient evil has been unleashed and one of them may not be...

Well it’s the start of another week, so you know what that means – yet more DVD and Blu-ray releases hit the high street, ready and waiting to swallow up all your hard-earned cash! Not as many Halloween-themed releases this week but no matter, here’s the rundown of what’s available to buy from today, October 24th 2011.
Pick Of The Week
Mother’s Day (DVD/Blu-ray)
After a bank robbery goes seriously wrong, three sadistic, bloodthirsty, criminal brothers find themselves on the run. Their childhood home seems like the safest place to hide out. But a few things have changed, their mother has been evicted and the house is now occupied by a young couple and their birthday guests. Taken hostage, the new owners and friends are forced to endure a night of blood-drenched hell. Because mother’s coming home to roost and her maternal instincts involve extreme torture and a taste for terror.

Gregory Connors Aussie Indy sci-fi action horror The Dark Lurking is finally arriving on UK DVD next month, under the amended name tag of Alien Undead. Considering the budget they’ve done a pretty good job on delivering the goods. I.E….Enough splattery, mutant nastiness and mayhem, to keep most indy/gore/fanboys very happy. Alien Undead goes on sale October 10. Synopsis: Something has gone terribly wrong at Research Station 320, a secret research facility one mile beneath the Earth's surface. All communications are gone, all means of escape destroyed and an extremely dangerous horde of rapidly mutating ancient flesh eating creatures are consuming everything in their path. Eight survivors of the outpost, two research subjects, three mercenaries, two research technicians and a medic barricade themselves inside a remote area of the facility with little food, almost no means of defence and little hope of rescue. Their one possible escape...

Director/writer: Aash Aaron.
Oh Aash Aaron, the boredom of I.C.U. is equal to watching dust settle. This film is labelled in the genre of thriller on some sites, but mysteriously there are few scares or tense moments found here. This review is a precedent, as there are no other reviews on this 2009 title! The first hour, with nothing happening, is followed by a looming black whole, which promises to dull the senses further. However, this film has managed to move onto video-on-demand this month, through Gravitas Ventures.
The synopsis involves: two wank happy teens who spy on their neighbours for titillation and excitement. Then, they spy another pervert, who gets his thrills from assaulting local prostitutes. Enter a strange, bloody climax and the end.
Movie specialists might recognize director Aash Aaron's name with Vigilante, or The Dark Lurking. Vigilante has been reviewed (here) and The Dark Lurking has received ambivalent reviews.

Below the crust these "eight survivors" (Dark) must battle an assortment of hellions, who may or may not have been released through drilling. Greg Connors' Australian genre mash-up, The Dark Lurking , is coming to DVD on October 12. Production began in 2006 and Connors has been tinkering away at the film since then with shooting taking place as financing came in. Connors told us in 2008 shortly after a trailer debut, "['Dark Lurking'] is a big time nod to all the cool movies from the 80's before CG turned movie monsters gay. Aliens, John Carpenter's The Thing, Predator, Pumpkinhead and even Robocop. Honestly, who's made a cool horror/sci-fi movie in a while? Fox killed the Aliens and Predator franchises so we decided to make something new that people could enjoy and would give the same feel from a monster movie that seems to be lacking these days." Cinema Epoch picked up the film for U.S. distribution....

Greg Connors’ low-budget sci-fi film The Dark Lurking will debut in Sydney this weekend but it has already been a victim of piracy, even though so far it has only been screened at festivals.
“It’s a kick in the guts; a lot of people are downloading it. A friend in Shanghai went to a video store there, and they had two shelves of our film on DVD, stacked between Transformers 2 and Transporter 3,” producer Bret Connors told Encore.
“A lot of the people that have seen the movie are from territories where there have been no sales, so we’re losing potential sales,” he added.
Piracy is indeed a bigger problem for an independent film that has struggled for years to become a reality.
The Dark Lurking is set in 2017, and something has gone wrong at an underground research facility, where a dangerous horde of creatures is on the loose.

To this movie nerd’s infinite pleasure, Australian filmmaker Gregory Connors’ gore-heavy sci-fi horror flick “The Dark Lurking” is finally coming to the Us later this year. According to 24 Frames Per Second, the film will have its debut on V.O.D. sometime during the end of October/beginning of November, with a proper DVD release to follow. I first watched the trailer for this film about a year ago, and have been anxiously awaiting its Stateside debut ever since. In fact, I’d almost given up hope for a Region 1 release until this very morning. And as soon as I stumble across an official release date for the DVD, you’ll be one of the first to know. For the uninitiated, here’s the official synopsis: Something has gone terribly wrong at Outpost 30, a secret international research facility some five hundred meters beneath the snow blown arctic wilderness. All communications are gone,...
