- The past comes back to haunt the residents (of Cicely) when Maurice works himself into a minor heart attack while over-fretting his age. Maggie relives a childhood fantasy, and Joel traces the history of Cicely to long-forgotten Jewish predecessor.—From DVD insert
- Maurice is reluctant to admit that he is getting older. While treating Ed to a movie and dinner in the city, the ticket seller automatically applies a senior citizen discount to his admission price. When he invites an old Marine buddy to visit, he is surprised to see how old his buddy and wife are. The friend is on oxygen. Next, he gets his first check from Social Security. This all comes to a head when he suffers a myocardial infarction (minor heart attack) in his wine cellar when stacking cases of wine that have arrived. Maggie learns that her father is to remarry. As it will be a private ceremony with no guests, she goes shopping for a wedding gift. This takes her to the La Fleur Gift Shop, a relatively new store in the area. She finds the perfect item for him - a statuette of Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead. It has no price tag. The woman waiting on her takes it to the back room whereupon she hears heated discussion. The woman returns and indicates that the statue is not for sale. Maggie is a bit put off. She returns later to talk to a man, presumably co-owner and husband of the woman to whom she previously talked. He again insists the figurine is not for sale. His behavior and seeing their poodle in a cage strike Maggie as odd. It conjures up scenes from Nancy Drew mystery stories that she has been discussing with Marilyn. She returns covertly, intending to spy on the shop. What she accomplishes, however, is to walk into a bush and scratch her cornea. This requires treatment from Joel. Joel, himself, is worked up after he hears Ed use a Tlingit word that is clearly Yiddish. He sets out to visit with other indigenous residents to find out if there are other Yiddish words that they have adopted. Several are found. Maurice, feeling his oats after recovering from his heart attack, heads for the lip of a waterfall's plunge pool. Taking his outer clothes off, he makes a graceful swan dive into the cold water, emerging with arms raised and a triumphant grin.—Garon Smith
