The Germans are interested in whether Sergeant Carter ( Larry Hovis ) has knowledge of chemical weapons. In World War I (1914-18) Germany used chemical weapons in combat. The Geneva Protocol is a treaty prohibiting the use of chemical and biological weapons in international armed conflicts. It was signed at Geneva on 17 June 1925 and entered into force on 8 February 1928.

Carter tries to change sides.

The Germans are building a chemical weapons factory and Hogan got orders from the allies to find out and destroy the plant. Hogan comes up with a plan where Carter goes over to the German side and claims to be a chemical specialist, thus they can learn where the plant is located.

When the General of the chemical division comes to investigate the claim by Carter, it will lead to a situation where the General will make other plans rather than continue with the facility.

A well played story that was interesting from start to finish. Sgt. Schultz has some funny lines in this episode that always make for a nice watch.

Note- Howard Morris of 'Andy Giffith' fame directed this episode.
