Max, who lives with his twin sister Shirley in Goa, is enraged when he finds out that she has fallen in love with Rahul, his bitter rival Prakash's younger brother.

Shah Rukh Khan and Sharad Kapoor are the leaders of the two rival gangs. Aishwarya Rai is Shah Rukh Khan's twin sister. Shah Rukh is in love with Priya Gill. Chandrachur Singh is Sharad Kapoor's younger brother who studies in a catering college in Bombay. He comes to Goa to visit his brother and plans to go back and start a restaurant there. He sees Aishwarya and falls in love with her. Chandrachur gives up the idea of going back to Bombay and opens a bakery in Goa. When Shah Rukh comes to know about the romance between Aishwarya and Chandrachur, the fight between the gang turns more violent. This movie is inspired by the ageless Hollywood musical, West Side Story. Shah Rukh and Aishwarya are playing brother and sister. The movie is about gang rivalry and love. Chandrachur and Shah Rukh happen to be in opposite gangs and Aishwarya is in love with Chandrachur.—Shiva Kumar

In the town of Vasco in Goa in 1980 (which was still ruled by the Portugese till 1961), there exist two rival street gangs - the Bichhoos (Scorpions), who are Hindu migrants and the Eagles, who are local Christians. The Bichhoos leader is Prakash Sharma (Sharad Kapoor), while the Eagles are led by Max Dias (Shah Rukh Khan). Prakash is a local enforcer, who uses his gang to engage in underhanded activities within the Vasco real estate market. Max, along with his educated twin sister Shirley (Aishwarya Rai), are orphans who belong to a rowdy motorcycle crew, together with the other members of the Eagles. The gangs are sworn enemies and have demarcated the town in order to avoid altercations. They are usually stopped from fights by Father Jacob or the town Police Inspector (Sharat Saxena).

Alberto Vasco (Raymond Albuquerque), a rich Portuguese who owned most of the land in the town during the Portuguese colonial era pre-1961. Alberto is the father of Max and Shirley. He had sex with their mother, but then abandoned her. After independence, the Portguese landlords left, and the tenants occupied the properties. But this meant there was no clear owner. Hence, any property developer could come and evict the tenants by force. Prakash works for the developers in forcefully evicting tenants from their properties. Bihari is the agent to the developer Chaudhary. Prakash is looking for a way to cut Bihari out of the picture, as he makes the most money on deals, by handling all the paperwork. Gotiya (Sushant Singh) & Ganpat (Manav Gohil) are in Prakash's gang. Max has a crush on Rosanne (Priya Gill). Savio (Vivek Vaswani) is Rosanne's boyfriend. Max constantly interrupts when Savio takes Rosanne out on dates. Max is very protective of Shirley and doesn't allow her any boyfriends. Michael (Puneet Vashisht) is in Max's gang and has a crush on Shirley.

Prakash's brother Rahul (Chandrachur Singh) is a well-educated master-chef working in Mumbai. He comes to visit Vasco after two years, intending to take his family back to Mumbai with him. Rahul decides to tour Vasco and rediscovers his love for the city. While in the Eagles territory, he spots Shirley and becomes fascinated by her heavenly beauty and elegance at first sight. He eventually develops a deep attraction for Shirley and decides to settle in Vasco and opens a pastry shop. Meanwhile, he unknowingly becomes part of the Eagles - Bichchoo rivalry. Rahul disapproves of Prakash's violent ways and how he looks for fights with Eagles or any Christians for that matter. Rahul's bakery eats into profits of another bakery owned by a Christian in the Eagle part of town. Rahul is not afraid of Max either and stands up to him when he tries to bully him.

Rahul gets close to Shirley as he continues to bump into her across town. Shirley wants Rahul to meet her in front of Max. Rahul meets Shirley at a festive dance, where everyone wears a mask. Max is also there, serenading Rosanne. Rahul wins the bet. As Rahul's shop gets more successful, Max sends Shirley into the shop with a basket full of rats. The rats runs riot after the shop is closed and destroys a large order that Rahul had prepared for the Goa day celebrations. After the order is destroyed, the order goes to the christian baker in the Eagles part of town. Rahul refuses to blame Eagles for this loss, even though he knows that Shirley came into the shop with a basket the previous night.

Prakash attacks Max.. Max is about to kill Prakash when Rahul intervenes and saves him. Max then turns on Rahul & is about to strangle him. But now, Shirley steps in and tells Max to leave Rahul alive. Max breaks Rahul's shop.. When police interrogates Rahul, he refuses to snitch on Max..Police tells Rahul to pay for the Damages (Rs 2 Lakhs) from his own pocket. Shirley now starts loving Rahul. She dates Rahul, but the news reaches Max.. But Max doesn't know who is Shirley dating. Chaudhary comes for another deal which requires 8-10 buildings to be vacated. Bihari is out of town and so Prakash offers to handle the entire deal by himself. He needs Rahul to handle the paperwork, but Rahul refuses to evict people from houses.

So, Prakash, plans to take over the village grounds (to fulfill Rahul's condition and still get the commission worth Rs 20 Lakhs). The grounds historically belong to Alberto Vasco, the landlord of the entire village and the man after whom the town is named. Rahul finds out that the ground was passed from Alberto to a woman named Mary Anne Louise. Rahul visits the address listed for Mary Anne, and it is revealed that Mary was a renter in the villa which belonged to Lady D'Costa (Nadira), twenty-two years ago. Rahul learns that Mary is Max and Shirley's mother and the twins are the illegitimate children of Alberto Vasco, born in 1958. They are the owners of the village grounds that belonged to Alberto Vasco.

Rahul meets Max and tells him to meet Lady D'Costa (also tells him that he loves Shirley). Max figures out that he is the illegal son of Alberto Vasco. Having developed a close relationship with Shirley, Rahul plans to reveal this information to her in the form of a letter, however, it falls into the hands of Prakash. Prakash plots to murder Max in order to receive Alberto Vasco's valuable land. Since Shirley loves Rahul, Prakash thinks that if he kills Max, the lands will automatically fall into his hands. Meanwhile Shirley fears that Max will try and hurt Rahul now that he knows that he loves her. So, she hides his gun. Gotiya steals the gun from Max's home

Prakash plans to kill Max with his own gun and make it look like suicide. Max and Prakash end up fighting and Gotiya drops Max's gun while he was trying to shoot him. Max accidentally shoots Prakash while defending himself. Max is arrested by the police, and his trial puts a rift between Shirley and Rahul. Max is about to go to the gallows, but the truth is finally revealed by Rahul (when Gotiya meets Rahul and tells him how Prakash was planning to kill Max), and he acknowledges Prakash's mistake. Finally, Rahul and Shirley are married, Max too marries his longtime crush Rosanne (Priya Gill).
