Andor Creator Tony Gilroy Shares New Details About His Next, Non-Star Wars Movie
Image
After making his feature scripting debut with 1992's "The Cutting Edge," an agreeable figure skating riff on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" starring D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly, Tony Gilroy quickly established himself as a Hollywood screenwriter to watch. Though he received only scattered praise for delivering a hugely engrossing adaptation of Stephen King's "Dolores Claiborne" and penning the niftily plotted medical thriller "Extreme Measures," his major rewrite of "The Devil's Advocate," which transformed a difficult-to-pin-down project into a shamelessly entertaining box office hit, placed him on the town's A-list.

While Gilroy didn't have a singular voice like his top-paid peers Shane Black, Joe Eszterhas, and Daniel Waters, he was highly valued by filmmakers for his wit, sense of storytelling structure, and lack of preciousness. He wasn't above tinkering on Michael Bay's silly "Armageddon" or Antoine Fuqua's action-comedy "Bait," which was likely because a) the money...

The Ritual: Al Pacino, Dan Stevens exorcism film gets a new trailer
Image
Al Pacino has played the Devil before (in the 1997 film The Devil’s Advocate), and earlier this year we learned that he would be playing an enemy of the Devil in the exorcism horror film The Ritual. Taking on the role of a troubled priest, Pacino stars in the film alongside Dan Stevens of Abigail and Godzilla x Kong, who also plays a troubled priest. We’ll get to see how well this troubled duo fares against Satan when XYZ Films gives The Ritual a North American theatrical release on June 6th, with Altitude giving audiences in UK and Irish cinemas the chance to see the movie a week earlier, on May 30th. With those dates swiftly approaching, a new trailer for the film has dropped online and you can check it out in the embed above.

‘The Bondsman’ Recap And Ending Explained: Will Hub Be Able To Save Maryanne?
Image
The motif of the Faustian bargain, or making a deal with the literal devil by selling one’s soul, hasn’t formed a horror subgenre of its own just yet. However, cult classic entries falling into this category—Angel Heart, Ghost Rider, The Devil’s Advocate, The Collector, and Brimstone—which focus on moral conflict and ambiguity, decisions and consequences, emotional turmoil, and the inscrutable whims of destiny with a certain nuance, make for a strong case of according the motif its own space. Amazon Studios’ latest release starring Kevin Bacon, The Bondsman, adds a good dash of old-school campy, gory horror treatment while musing on the same theme. While the central narrative of the eight-episode series is quite simplistic, and the dynamic between the characters isn’t anything to write home about, the callback to classic horror tropes is something to watch out for, aside from the cool rock and...

‘Nobody 2’ Fights Its Way Into CinemaCon With a Sneak Peek Your Dad Is Going to Love
Image
Never underestimate a funny man. That’s what audiences learned when Ilya Naishuller released his action-packed feature Nobody in 2021, which moved Bob Odenkirk out of his typical safe space of funny guy and reintroduced him as an action star. The Breaking Badand Better Call Saul actor stepped up to the task at hand and made it look easy in the hit film that holds a glowing 84% critics’ rating and an even more impressive audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Today, during Universal’s presentation at CinemaCon, audiences got their first taste of the highly anticipated follow-up film that will crash into theaters later this year. Very much on par with the movie that kicked off what could easily become a franchise, Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell is back in Nobody 2 and ready for more ass-kicking action.

At CinemaCon, we got an early look at the first trailer. Here's what we saw:

Hutch is back,...

Top 7 most riveting Keanu Reeves sci-fi and fantasy roles
Image
Keanu Reeves has cemented himself as a pop culture icon, blending action, heart, and a touch of mysticism into some of the most unforgettable roles. Whether he's bending reality, battling demons, or leading humanity’s final stand against our mechanical overlords, Reeves brings a unique depth to his characters, making them both relatable and legendary.

Here are Keanu Reeves' seven most riveting sci-fi and fantasy roles, ranked by their impact, performances, and sheer awesomeness factor.

7. Klaatu – The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

In this remake of the 1951 classic, Reeves plays Klaatu, an alien sent to Earth to determine whether humanity deserves to survive. His signature calm demeanor and otherworldly presence make him a believable extraterrestrial observer. While the movie received mixed reviews, Reeves’ portrayal of the detached, emotionless visitor added an eerie weight to the film’s apocalyptic stakes.

6. Johnny Mnemonic – Johnny Mnemonic (1995)

Before The Matrix, Reeves took on another cyberpunk role as Johnny Mnemonic,...

Al Pacino and Dan Stevens Dance With the Devil In ‘The Ritual’ Teaser Trailer
Image
He may have once played the devil himself in the 1997 film The Devil’s Advocate, but today, Al Pacino is attempting to banish the powers of evil with Dan Stevens by his side. XYZ Films has dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film The Ritual, which drops its two leading men into an exorcism flick based on a true story. Although it was initially set to go toe-to-toe with the Easter crowd, the power of Christ compelled the folks behind the David Midell-helmed production to move the feature’s release to the summer on June 6.

Fully embracing all the terror that comes with a movie about an exorcism, the teaser trailer for The Ritual introduces audiences to Pacino’s Theophilus Riesinger and Stevens’ Joseph Steiger. Both men are priests who have been summoned to help Emma Schmidt (Abigail Cowen) — a young woman who is suspected to be suffering from demonic possession.

'Andor' Season 1 Scripts Not Available Due to AI Concerns, Says Tony Gilroy
Image
Concerns over AI forced Andor creator Tony Gilroy to withdraw from releasing the scripts for his hit Disney+ Star Wars series. In 2023, during Andor's For Your Consideration campaign for the Emmys, Gilroy announced he would release the scripts to the series online. This news was positively met by fans eager to get a peak at how Gilroy crafted what many consider to be one of the best entries in the entire Star Wars franchise. Yet, two years later, with Andor Season 2 on the horizon, the scripts have never been released.

While speaking with Collider, Gilroy spoke about his decision not to release the scripts to Andor online, which is rooted in his not wanting to have his work used in AI learning software to make content. "I wanted to do it. We put it together. It's really cool. I've seen it, I loved it. AI is the reason we're not,...

The challenge of selling 1997’s Boogie Nights
Image
Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights is set against the backdrop of the sex industry. New Line’s marketing team had to find a way to sell it.

It was back in October 1997 that the American Film Information Council bestowed upon the movie Boogie Nights the prize of the best marketed film of that month.

Appreciating that it’s a fairly closed shortlist it’ll have been competing against, it was still up against Kiss The Girls, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Devil’s Advocate. Even so, it was still likely to have been something of a split decision. Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie was treading a fine line between the old adage of sex sells, and American censors grappling with material of a fruity nature.

Boogie Nights, if you’re unfamiliar, is a superb film. It’s an ensemble movie set against the backdrop of the American porn industry,...

Keanu Reeves
The 10 Best Keanu Reeves Movies, Ranked
Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is one of the most extraordinary movie stars of the past several decades, as he has managed to earn both legitimate praise and ironic appreciation. Although he began appearing in heartthrob roles just as the “Brat Pack” era began its decline, Reeves would become one of the definitive action stars of his generation alongside Tom Cruise and Wesley Snipes. In between his major sequels, Reeves still found a way to take on ambitious projects from acclaimed filmmakers, such as Taylor Hackford’s unusual legal thriller “The Devil’s Advocate” and Nancy Meyers’ charming romantic-comedy “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Despite facing a brief recess in his career after a series of critical disappointments in the first half of the 21st century, Reeves launched a major comeback when the “John Wick” franchise gave him another opportunity to show his merits as an action star. Reeves is clearly passionate about both the character...

Charlize Theron Had A Frustrating Acting Debut In A Low-Rated Stephen King Adaptation
Image
In James D.R. Hickox's 1995 horror flick "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest," the rural mayhem of Gatlin, Nebraska is transposed to the concrete wilds of Chicago. A child cult leader named Eli (Daniel Porter) is adopted by a citybound foster mother (Nancy Lee Grahn) who is astonished by his gentle demeanor and Amish-like language. What she doesn't know is that he worships a demonic corn deity (!) called He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Said deity had been mentioned in both 1984's "Children of the Corn" and 1992's "Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice," but no one had ever seen the elusive Hwwbtr, leaving its true nature mysterious.

Eli has magical corn kernels in his possession, and he can swiftly grow and harvest a miniature corn crop in an isolated Chicago lot. This attracts both Hwwbtr and an eager cult of teen followers. Eli, like his "Corn" forebears,...

Matt Damon Has All the Rights to Blame ‘Captain America’ Star Who Persuaded Him for One of His Worst Movies: “I heard it was pretty hard”
Image
Few actors have had an influence as great as Matt Damon. With his ability to carefully pick the projects he stars in, he has curated one of the most vast and impressive filmographies of all time. From starting his career in Good Will Hunting to heading the Jason Bourne series and even being a part of films like Saving Private Ryan and Interstellar, he has been in a surprising number of Oscar-nominated projects.

While these achievements have made him one of the most beloved and respected figures in the film industry, it is important to remember that he is not above making bad decisions. Unfortunately for Damon, one of the most disappointing moments in his professional life came because he listened to the advice of another Oscar winner.

Keanu Reeves Will Bring Back His Comedy Persona in His New Movie 'Outcome' With Cameron Diaz
Image
Keanu Reeves has become known for his brutal role as dog-loving assassin John Wick in the last decade, but he will be leaving that all behind for an upcoming role that will see him bring back “comedic Keanu.” Jonah Hill-directed Outcome will not only see Reeves being reunited with Cameron Diaz for the first time since 1996 dark comedy Feeling Minnesota, but will also find him leaving behind his action hero persona for something in which he doesn’t even do “one karate punch.”

According to Roy Wood Jr., who also appears in the movie, the film is “extremely funny,” and he shared as much as he was able about Reeves’ appearance at the Sundance Film Festival. Speaking to ScreenRant, he said:

“I spoke with Jonah Hill, who's directing and starring in Outcome, and I know they were still finishing up, just a couple of tweaks on the edit. I...

When Keanu Reeves’ Gut Feeling Saved Him From The Speed 2 Disaster
Image
Why did Keanu Reeves pass on Speed 2? (Photo Credit – Facebook/Prime Video)

Keanu Reeves made one of the smartest career moves ever by giving Speed 2 a hard pass. The first Speed was an absolute adrenaline rush, a steady ride of shambles and outbursts. So when they announced a sequel, everyone just assumed Reeves would be back for more but nope, he slammed the brakes on that one.

Instead of him racing against time, we got Jason Patric as Sandra Bullock’s new on-screen boyfriend. Not precisely something fans were hoping for. Reeves took one look at the script and knew it wasn’t exemplary. So, he trusted his gut and walked away. And guess what? He was right.

Why Keanu Reeves Opted Out of Speed 2

When Speed 2 dropped, everyone presumed Keanu Reeves would be back as Jack Traven. After all, he was a major reason the...

Image
Jan de Bont’s Speed was a massive blockbuster success for 20th Century Studios, and more than that, it made Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock international stars. With the fame and money that the franchise made, it’s only logical to expect a sequel. Unfortunately, the John Wick star opted out of it.

Without Reeves, Speed 2: Cruise Control tanked at the box office, but it was more of a deficiency in the script. This is why the actor did not return—he wasn’t feeling it, in plain speak. Now, he’s got a new project that almost feels like it is set in the same atmosphere as Speed.

Why Keanu Reeves Did Not Return for Speed 2 but Sandra Bullock Did: Explained
Image
Let’s rewind to 1994. Speed became an instant classic, throwing us into the high-stakes drama of a bus wired to explode if it dropped below 50 mph. It had it all—especially Keanu Reeves as the heroic cop Jack Traven, Sandra Bullock as the witty passenger Annie Porter, and a plot that kept us hooked.

Naturally, fans couldn’t wait for a sequel. But then came Speed 2: Cruise Control in 1997. And, well it wasn’t what anyone hoped for. The high-speed bus was swapped for a slow-moving cruise ship, and Reeves didn’t return.

So, why did our beloved Jack Traven ditch the sequel, leaving Annie Porter to awkwardly flirt with a new guy? Turns out, the lead star had some solid reasons, and honestly? He dodged a bullet—or maybe a sinking ship.

Keanu Reeves Dances With the Devil in This Manic '90s Legal Horror-Thriller
Image
I know it's impossible to contemplate Keanu Reeves ever fully going to the dark side, but that concept comes up an awful lot in his career. Films like Constantine, the John Wick franchise, and even the recent Sonic the Hedgehog 3 all had his characters' souls torn between the angel and the devil on each shoulder, with notable dramatic tension drawn from the difficulty of that choice. While nobody would call this film among his finest works, no film has had more fun interrogating Keanu's soul than The Devil's Advocate, a slice of '90s studio pulp that's somehow both wilder and more serious-minded than its infamous reputation would lead you to believe.

Al Pacino's Casting In 2025 Horror Movie Continues An Exciting Genre Trend That Dominated 2024
Image
Al Pacino is set to star alongside Dan Stevens in the upcoming demonic possession movie The Ritual in 2025, which will continue an exciting trend that has dominated horror movies for the last year. Due to release in April 2025, The Ritual will feature Pacino and Stevens as two troubled priests who come together to perform a series of exorcisms on a young American girl. The movie is based on a real-world exorcism, as it follows the ordeal of Emma Schmidt, whose exorcism is one of the most thoroughly documented cases on record.

Horror in general is having a resurgence both from a quality and from a box office standpoint, as production companies like Neon and A24 have brought haunting stories to the big screen for relatively small dollar amounts with tremendous results. Dan Stevens' inclusion in The Ritual is exciting thanks to his extensive background in horror, but it's Pacino's inclusion...

10 Best Connie Nielsen Movies
Image
Connie Nielsen's long and significant career has included some of the best movies of the past several decades, including the iconic Ridley Scott film Gladiator. Though it can be difficult for an actor to be known for such a specific role in a period film, this hasn't stopped Nielsen from broadening her horizons and taking on projects within many different genres. From strong and fearsome heroines to tender love interests, Nielsen has never been afraid to be a part of unexpected works that polarize audiences. However, this is likely how she developed her skills as a formidable actress.

Nielsen knows Lucilla's influence in Gladiator II and has been open about discussing the roles that women play in male-dominated works like the Gladiator franchise. However, it's not only in action blockbusters that Nielsen has brought this reflective perspective to the forefront of her work. Gladiator isn't the only cinematic universe she's been a part of,...

10 Over-The-Top Horror Movie Performances That Are Still Iconic
Image
Horror movies have a long-standing reputation for over-the-top performances, with some of them standing the test of time despite their aggressive camp. Performances in horror movies often go overlooked, with a high degree of acting skill necessary to convey the heart-thumping terror of one's life being endangered by a masked serial killer or a supernatural entity from beyond the grave. While certain horror movies do excel with the subtlety of their performances, is the bombastic, over-the-top characters that are recognized even years later.

There are a wide variety of horror movie characters that might necessitate a campy, no-holds-barred performance. Most obviously, many horror movie villains require an actor willing to get big and loud with their takes, making themselves into a ferocious predator operating beyond the confines of typical human interaction. In other cases, the victims themselves may need to get wild and wicked with their performances, requiring actors to...

Why Keanu Reeves Turned Down One Of The Defining '90s Crime Thrillers
Image
Keanu Reeves has landed iconic roles that range from bullet-dodging freedom fighter to a dude-level time traveler. There was one movie, however, where he would've made for an interesting addition to an already stellar collection of cast members, had he only taken up the offer. According to The New Zealand Herald, Reeves very nearly ended up starring in "Heat," the revered 1995 Michael Mann crime movie (even though Mann didn't see it as one) that had Robert De Niro and Al Pacino face off against one another in a perfect cat and mouse chase. For better or for worse, though, Reeves instead chose to tread the boards in a Canadian theatre production of "Hamlet."

Had he taken the job, Reeves would've played the number two to Neil McCauley (De Niro), Chris Shiherlis, which instead went to Val Kilmer and became one of the actor's career highlights. Luckily, though, Reeves still managed...

“Don’t do number two”: Connie Nielsen Should’ve Listened to Fans Begging Her to Stay Away from Gladiator 2
Image
Connie Nielsen, the stunner Danish actress who never ceases to amuse her audiences with her brilliant performances, has recently returned to the big screens with Gladiator 2, reprising her role as Lucilla. And yet, there’s just something uncanny about it all, perhaps about her returning to her character or simply the existence of this sequel to Gladiator in the first place.

That said, of course, there was a lot of buzz surrounding this very recently released sequel, with a lot of fans opposing its making and Nielsen’s return for reasons all too understandable. Now that the film has finally hit the screens and the actress recalls her journey of coming back, it feels like she might as well have just listened to fans begging her to stay away from this flick.

Keanu Reeves' Reason for Turning Down 'Platoon' Explained
Image
Hollywood is a brutal place where the lack of opportunities always drives gifted performers to despair. However, some actors have never endured such challenges and Keanu Reeves is one of them. Comedy? Sci-fi? Action? He has done it all. The celebrated Canadian actor started his journey on the television series Hangin' In, before venturing into Hollywood with Youngblood. Reeves then got his breakthrough role via the science-fiction comedy Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in 1989. The 90s were excellent for the actor as he starred in several big-budget films, including Point Break, The Devil's Advocate, and The Matrix.

One Of Matt Damon's Biggest Box Office Hits Had An 'Embarrassing' First Draft Script
Image
The original "Jason Bourne" films hold up as the best American action movie trilogy made in the last few decades. Loosely based on the 1980s novel trilogy by Robert Ludlum, Matt Damon stars as Bourne, a CIA assassin who winds up on the run from his handlers after coming down with amnesia.

In this rock solid trilogy, which of the three is the best? "The Bourne Identity," where the audience and Jason himself slowly piece together the truth of who he is, has the most involved narrative. Unlike the next two sequels, "Identity" is not only a relentless chase. Directed by Doug Liman, "Identity" also lacks the visual language (shaky-cam) that defines the subsequent "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum."

For my money, "The Bourne Ultimatum" is the best one. Director Paul Greengrass refines his skills and makes the movie move like an action machine. It also has a similar mystery...

Disney's Failed King Kong Replacement Will Stream for Free Next Month
Image
The King Kong movies were fish-out-of-water stories that explored heavier issues on race and environmentalism. Mighty Joe Young toned down these themes, offering a more family-friendly alternative.

Disney's Mighty Joe Young streams for free on Tubi this December. A remake of the 1949 film, it's a heartwarming story about an enduring friendship between a giant mountain gorilla and the woman who raised him in a wildlife preserve. It's a toned-down version of monster films like King Kong, especially the 1933 classic. Mighty Joe Young's main draw was its creature design, which earned an Oscar nod in for Best Visual Effects in 1999. Released on Christmas Day 1998, the film was a box office disappointment, grossing $50 million against a $90 million budget. Mighty Joe Young was Charlize Theron's next big break after The Devil's Advocate.

Kevin Spacey Continues Controversial Comeback With First Trailer for The Contract
Image
Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey continues his comeback with the first trailer for the upcoming thriller The Contract...in which the American Beauty and House of Cards star plays The Devil. Which is perhaps a little on the nose? Anyway, The Contract is all set to debut at the Cairo Film Festival later this week, with Variety revealing the first look at this surprisingly low-budget-looking psychological thriller about a journalist who, in looking for a scoop, crosses paths with the Devil himself Kevin Spacey.

Directed by Italian filmmaker Massimo Paolucci, the thriller is based on an idea by Caroletti, which has been scripted by his wife, Eva Henger, and is produced by Tm Entertainment and Sandro Lazzerini. The movie is led by The Dark Knight star Eric Roberts alongside Spacey, with the rest of the cast including Vincent Spano and Jennifer Caroletti.

According to the synopsis, Roberts stars as a down-and-out...

Why Keanu Reeves Donated Millions Of His Matrix Salary To Crew Members- Know The Story Here!
Image
Keanu Reeves donated to the Matrix crew from his salary (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Keanu Reeves isn’t just a Hollywood legend—he’s the real Mvp of generosity. While most stars would’ve pocketed the cash and bounced, Keanu flipped the script for the Matrix sequels. Instead of stacking all his earnings from Reloaded and Revolutions, he donated millions to the crew. Yep, you read that right—millions. This wasn’t some token gesture, either; he straight-up funneled his profit share into the hands of the special effects and costume teams. Why? Because Keanu knew they were making the movie’s mind-blowing visuals come to life. The man gets it.

Keanu was in line to make bank—around $40 million to $100 million from the sequels—but he still decided to give it back. The man said, “These guys made the movie,” and gave up roughly $75 million of his earnings. And because he’s Keanu,...

Keanu Reeves Replaced Another Hollywood Legend In The Devil's Advocate
Image
Your honor, I must confess — I have a mighty big soft spot for "The Devil's Advocate." The 1997 supernatural courtroom thriller stars Keanu Reeves as Kevin Lomax, a hotshot Florida lawyer (with the world's sketchiest Southern accent) who is recruited by a fiendish defense attorneys office in New York, run by the charismatic and slightly terrifying John Milton (Al Pacino). As he abandons his morals in order to win cases, Kevin's wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) starts having horrific visions with demonic influences. You see, Milton isn't just devilishly handsome and talented, he's also actually the devil himself.

"The Devil's Advocate" completely hinges on Pacino's performance, as he plays Milton with a kind of outlandish delight that only a rare few of our greatest actors could ever attempt. It's a little bit Tony Montana from "Scarface" when he's on copious amounts of coke and a little bit Lieutenant Hanna from "Heat,...

Sorry Angelina Jolie But Charlize Theron Has Taken the Throne of Best Female Action Star of Hollywood

When The Old Guard began streaming on Netflix, not many would have anticipated that it would go on to become one of the top 10 most successful original launches in the platform’s history. It did, making it a project Netflix was willing to make a sequel of. But that wasn’t the only thing the movie was memorable for.

Charlize Theron, portraying the role of Andy would slay yet again in an action role, a phenomenon that was being repeated constantly. The Monster star had already begun to carve a reputation for herself with Mad Max: Fury Road. Al Pacino Details Covid Near-Death Experience: “My Pulse Was Gone”
Image
Four years later, Al Pacino is opening up about his near-death experience with Covid-19.

The Academy Award winner revealed his “pulse was gone” after he had a bad reaction to steroids while being treated for a life-threatening Coronavirus infection back in 2020.

“It was so — you’re here, you’re not,” he told The New York Times. “I thought: Wow, you don’t even have your memories. You have nothing. Strange porridge.”

Pacino recounted, “What happened was, I felt not good — unusually not good. Then I had a fever, and I was getting dehydrated and all that. So I got someone to get me a nurse to hydrate me. I was sitting there in my house, and I was gone. Like that. I didn’t have a pulse. In a matter of minutes they were there — the ambulance in front of my house. I had about six paramedics in that living room,...

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Has a Serious Villain Problem
Image
The new Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime borrows many of the original anime's best aspects, such as its richly diverse magical combat system, and many of its worst aspects too, such as forgettable villains. While the original Fairy Tail had at least a few villains with substance, the 100 Years Quest anime falls short with its antagonists. There's still time for this new anime's villains to get some emotional and thematic depth, but that's not looking too likely.

It's true that the 100 Years Quest anime has tighter pacing and therefore less time to flesh out its new characters, which actually makes it similar to Bleach's well-paced new anime. The returning characters can all hit the ground running as familiar faces, while the new villains are just there to get in their way and don't contribute much to the story. There are some serious problems with how these villains are designed,...

Monster (2003) – What Really Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
When we think of monsters on this channel, most of the time its from a fictional, mythical, or legendary monster like the Mummy, Wolfman, Dracula, or Frankenstein’s Monster. On this specific show, however, a Monster can take on a whole new meaning. I joke that half of these episodes will be about reportedly true possessions and while that will probably hold fast, there is another type of monster we have discussed a few times. The guy that loosely inspired the Scream killings, Henry from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and today’s subject Aileen Wuornos. The movie made about her is literally called Monster and put director Patty Jenkins and star Charlize Theron, at least in terms of her being seen as an A list actor who can actually act, on the map. It’s a straightforward telling of a murderer that of course adds nuance and even...
