Yasmeen Fletcher (“Ms. Marvel”) and Troy Baker (The Last of Us) will star in the AI-themed sci-fi horror film Othermor, Deadline reports.
Exploring themes of memory, identity, and artificial intelligence, the film is said to blend surreal and psychological horror with reflections on the human condition.
It revolves around a young woman suffering from amnesia, trapped in a mysterious Victorian-style chamber with an enigmatic AI caretaker. As she negotiates for the return of her memories, she encounters a haunting doppelganger who may hold the key to her escape.
Production is set to take place in Atlanta later this year with co-directors Justin Solaiman and Hudson King making their feature debut from a script by Solaiman.
“’Ms. Marvel’ was undoubtedly a dream, but I absolutely love indie cinema,” said Fletcher. “Othermor is a completely new kind of indie experience for me, and I’m elated to collaborate creatively with Hudson, Justin,...

Ever since the rise of AI, it's become a rich vein for horror movie directors to tap into. Now, the newly established Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment, created by Edoardo Bussi, is launching an AI-themed horror film. This is to be titled Othermor.
The film will star Troy Baker and Yasmeen Fletcher. Baker is widely known for his work in the video game world, having played Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and perhaps most famously of all, Joel Miller in the beloved zombie game The Last of Us. While the role of Joel in the TV adaption went to Pedro Pascal, Baker did pop up in the show, playing henchman James in the episode "When We Are In Need."

The Graduates comes from that long line of modern-day movies where not many things happen; instead, you get to meet a few (mostly) relatable characters and follow them around for a while. However, if moody cinema is your thing, then I’m sure Hannah Peterson’s debut feature worked for you. Not sure if this information is relevant, but American indie cinema happens to be my favorite genre. In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration if I said that I based my personality on the genre thanks to watching a lot of these movies during my formative years as a cinema enthusiast (not all that fond of the word ‘cinephile’). The most admirable thing about The Graduates is not using any flashback scene, which has to be a deliberate creative choice. It only ensures that the movie is really about the aftermath of the tragedy—that too a common one,...

Though one could argue that the Disney+ Ms. Marvel series did suffer a dip in quality as it went on, many fans considered Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan to be one of the more compelling new characters to be introduced to the MCU post Infinity Saga, and it sounds like Marvel Studios has major plans for young hero going forward.
Towards the end of The Marvels, Khan channels her inner Nick Fury when she recruits Hawkeye's Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to the Young Avengers (whether that'll be the team's name remains to be seen), possibly suggesting that Ms. Marvel will find herself in a leadership position once full roster is assembled.
While speaking to THR about the third season of What If...?, Head of Marvel Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum indicated that Khan is going to be integral to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Dan Baker on Wbgr-fm on October 31st, reviewing the film “The Graduates,” a fictional account regarding mourners one year after a tragedy. The film opened in select theaters November 1st, and will roll out through November, see local listings.
A high school was the victim of a mass shooting, and the film is set one year later. The story concerns how three people deal with the loss of a popular student named Tyler. The mourners are two students … Tyler’s girlfriend Genevieve (Mina Sundwall) and best friend Ben (Alex Hibbert), who left the school after the incident… and the school’s basketball coach/Tyler’s father John (John Cho). Each are dealing with the loss in their own way, and each have one more step in the process of coming to terms.

Some films capture the "before" events that may have paved the way to a certain killer's horrific deed say, a mass shooting. Others put us right smack in the middle of the terror, with the mass killings playing out in immersive real time for the film's duration. And then, there are movies that opt to eloquently dissect the traumatic aftermath of any sort of violence. All these cinematic reference points have been captured effectively in movies in relation to high school shootings specifically. A "before" example might be We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lynne Ramsay. A captivating "during" film might be the Palme d'Or-winning Elephant by Gus Van Sant. And here, we're discussing an example of the "after" with The Graduates.

School shootings continue to happen. Its tragic, heartbreaking, and it often feels rather hopeless watching as things unfold, and the cycle of violence repeats. Far from being a film that capitalizes on the shock value of such a devastating event, The Graduates is an understated story that focuses on the aftermath healing, mourning, and attempting to move forward are at the center of this character-driven narrative.

Change can be difficult to process no matter how old we are. It can be especially paralyzing during our adolescence when we experience so many things for the first time. We change schools, part ways with our old friends, and try to find a new path. All these things change us in some ways. Hannah Peterson’s “The Graduates” explores the same overwhelming pressure through the eyes of high school students processing a similar sense of transition. Simultaneously, it presents them processing a recent tragedy and how their journeys have more in common than one may assume.
The script mainly follows Genevieve (Mina Sundwall), a young high-school student on her way to graduation. Her close friend, Ben (Alex R. Hibbert) suddenly returns from his school elsewhere, hoping to finish his course remotely before their college. He gets his old part-time job back and seems eager to gain something he has lost during his absence.

So far, Loki is the only Disney+ Marvel-based series to get a second season, but we're now hearing that a sophomore run for another popular show might be in the cards.
According to Daniel Richtman, a second season of Ms. Marvel is being discussed, but a final decision has not been made.
We have heard that Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is being position as a major player in the MCU going forward, so a second season of her solo show would make sense. That said, Khan's big-screen debut, The Marvels, massively underperformed, which might well influence Marvel/Disney's decision.
Somewhat controversially for long-time fans of the character, Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the season 1 finale, ret-conning her Inhuman status from the comic books.
This new origin soon carried over to the page (though she also retains her Inhuman-ness), with Khan becoming the latest member of the X-Men,...

The casting of Vivi in One Piece season 2 is crucial due to potential whitewashing concerns in portraying a character ruling darker-skinned people. Haley Lu Richardson, Yasmina El-Abd, Yasmeen Fletcher, Kiernan Shipka, Banita Sandhu, Ananya Panday, and Naomi Scott are all solid choices for the role of Vivi. Each actress brings their own unique qualities and experience that would make them convincing and likable in the role of Vivi.
The casting of One Piece's first season greatly lends itself to the overall positive reception of the live-action anime adaptation, and with One Piece season 2 in development, it's likely Netflix will continue the accurate casting trend with Nefertari Vivi. 2022 added a number of new heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one of the most anticipated of those was the introduction of Kamala Khan, the titular hero in the Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. Since her first appearance in the Captain Marvel comic series in 2013, Kamala Khan has become a rapidly popular character who eventually earned her own comic series run beginning in 2014. The iconic blue and red lightning costumed hero has crossed over with several over characters across media in the Marvel universe including Spider-Man and The Secret Warriors. So it was only a matter of time before Khan would receive the live-action treatment and be adapted into the official MCU. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the character's adaption was in the pipeline after the 2019 origin film of Captain Marvel. In 2020, Iman Vellani was officially cast as the titular superhero for the series which marks this project as her onscreen debut.

“The Graduates,” which counts Chloé Zhao and John Cho among its executive producers and gets its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, revolves around school shooting survivors who are unable to move on even one year later. It’s a compelling subject, for sure, but one on which no dramatic treatments have been nearly as astute or profound as what’s already been in the news.

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani dressed as her favorite Marvel character for Halloween: Tony Stark. Ms. Marvel is an MCU universe television series that follows 16-year-old Kamala Khan (Vellani), a fangirl-turned-superhero of the Marvel universe (particularly Captain Marvel.) The show's first season premiered on Disney+ this past summer and will hopefully be picked up for a Season 2 following its rave reviews.
Vellani has often spoken publicly about how she relates to Khan's attachment to the Marvel universe– particularly Ms. Marvel, who made her first appearance in Marvel Comics in 2013. Vellani described herself as a casual fan of the Marvel universe until Robert Downey Jr. made his debut as Iron Man in 2008. The film quickly fueled a Marvel obsession for the actress, and she considers Iron Man her comfort film.

“Superheroes don’t need chaperones,” Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) huffs in the finale episode of Ms. Marvel.
Her older brother Aamir (Saagar Shaikh) has arrived on the scene at the final standoff against the Department of Damage Control to watch out for Kamala and her friends, at the request of their mother. It’s a line that serves its purpose in the scene, but also reminds the audience that despite her newfound cosmic powers and sleek superhero outfit, Kamala is still just a teenager. But it’s her authentic and unapologetic teendom that makes her who she is. Vellani’s effortless performance paints Kamala as a real teenager — one who many can recognize once in themselves, their friends and their family.
It’s in those interactions with her friends that Kamala truly embodies authentic teendom, as she maintains her awkward charm even in the direst of situations.

Kamala Khan is a superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel; Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to.
Even though the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is full of comedy, heart, and emotion, one thing it is severely lacking in is more coming-of-age-style stories. Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming was really the closest thing we ever got to a coming-of-age MCU film, and boy did it ever work.

The following contains major spoilers for the “Ms. Marvel” finale episode. Turn away now if you haven’t seen it.
The season finale of “Ms. Marvel” ended, per Marvel Cinematic Universe tradition, with a post-credits scene setting up a future project.
But as much fun as the brief moment was (and yes we’ll talk about it more below) it was vastly overshadowed by the episode’s final scene proper, which contained a huge reveal so important to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we’re honestly surprised this wasn’t the post-credit scene instead.
Literally, it changes everything for Kamala — even more than learning she’s part-Djinn did — and just as important, also seems to set up how Marvel is going to finally introduce, uh, a flurry of X-related puns into the MCU.

With the first two epic episodes of Ms. Marvel now streaming on Disney+ and the next ready to drop, we thought we would deliver even more scoop on this very special show.

Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?

As Disney+ releases the six episodes of "Ms. Marvel" this summer, Popsugar has exclusive interviews with the cast and creators about making the show come to life. This week, Yasmeen Fletcher chats with Popsugar about episode two, "Crushed."
Yasmeen Fletcher really loves her "Ms. Marvel" character, Nakia. Before she knew the show was going to happen, a friend told her about the comics, explaining how it was all about a Pakistani American Muslim teenager with a similar culture to Fletcher's. "I immediately went to the comic-book store and picked up the first comic I could find and read through it and fell in love with it," she tells Popsugar.
When Fletcher heard rumors about a show adaptation, the actor told her manager she needed to be a part of it and she needed to play her favorite character, Nakia. "She's just so strong and she's kind of a badass," Fletcher says of her character.

Ms. Marvel Episode 2
Unlike Moon Knight, I didn’t really know anything about the character of Ms. Marvel going into this new Disney+ show, so getting to know Kamala Khan, and the unravelling of the mystery behind her powers, has been fascinating to me. I’ve been discovering a little bit more about her comics origin as the show has unfolded, and Marvel Studios seem to have substantially altered Kamala’s powers from the comics. They no longer appear to be rooted in Inhumans lore, and this week we found out that her great-grandmother’s bangle has awakened a power that was always lying dormant inside Kamala. She struggles to unwrap both the nature of it, and its role in her family escaping the violence of Partition, because her mother obviously has very negative feelings about her grandmother and what happened during that tumultuous time.

Kevin Feige and Marvel have never been ones to shy away in recent years from exploring cultural diversity. Marvel’s first Muslim-American teenage superhero is here.
The first two episodes of “Ms. Marvel” dropped on Disney+ on Wednesday June 8 and it’s already bound to be as successful as the platform’s growing slate of original series such as “WandaVision” and “Loki.”
Created by Bisha K. Ali, the series follows 16 year-old Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who spends her days creating Avengers fan fiction and playing video games in Jersey City. But everything changes when she gains superpowers of her own.
In addition to Vellani, who makes her TV debut with this role, the series also stars Matt Lintz as her tech-savvy best friend Bruno; Yasmeen Fletcher as another friend Nakia; Saagar Shaikh as her brother; and Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur as her mom and dad, respectively.

“Ms. Marvel”, a six-episode series, is the newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also known as the MCU. Debuting on Disney+ on June 8th, the series is based on the very popular comic book of the same name. However, this series takes the story into a whole new and exciting frame. I was granted an early look at the first two episodes, and they were so intriguing I can’t wait to see what happens next. But more on that in a minute!

The best and worst thing I can say about Ms. Marvel is that there are long stretches where it’s easy to forget it’s a Marvel show.
You may have noticed that there have been a lot of movies and TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last few years. Like, an amount equivalent to how big Ant-Man got during the airport fight in Captain America: Civil War. Most of these have been good. Some have been substantially better than that. And a few, like the...

It’s wild to realize while watching “Ms. Marvel” that the studio’s newest heroine would have been about 2 years old in 2008, the year “Iron Man” kick-started Marvel’s sprawling cinematic universe as we know it. Like the comic books that inspired it, the on-screen MCU has officially become old enough to spawn a literal new generation of superheroes who grew up watching the Avengers shoot through time and space and back again to stop the bad guys. Now, some 15 years later, they’re getting their own shows to do the same.

Shortly after Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), the heroine of Disney+’s Ms. Marvel, gains her powers, her best friend Bruno (Matt Lintz) asks her what it feels like to wield them. She gazes with awe at her own right hand, sheathed in crystalline layers of blue light. “Like an idea come to life,” she answers.
It’s a tidy description of her gifts, which (in a departure from the comics, where she’s able to manipulate the size and shape of her body) allow her to solidify that light into shields or stepping stones or whatever else she can imagine. It’s downright audacious that Marvel is now making TV shows about Avengers superfans, but despite that thoroughly meta invitation to egomania, real-life MCU diehards are in for a treat with “Ms. Marvel.”
First introduced in a 2013 comic by Sana Amanat, “Ms. Marvel” is the story of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a nerdy New Jersey teen obsessed with Captain Marvel who ends up gaining her own superpowers and moniker. The Disney+ adaptation comes from creator and head writer Bisha K. Ali (executive story editor on “Loki“), with executive producers Adil and Bilall. Despite the young protagonist, “Ms. Marvel” is as universal as “Spider-Man” or “Hawkeye” or any Disney+ series before it.
Episode 1 introduces us to Kamala, content with her friends, family, and phantasmagoria as she daydreams through class and uploads YouTube videos about her favorite superhero, Captain Marvel. Her dearest ambition in life is to get her driver’s license...

“Ms. Marvel” is only the second Marvel Disney+ series to drop in 2022 and already it feels like a 180 degree heel-turn from the last one, “Moon Knight.” Where Oscar Isaac’s Mark Spector was moody and dark with barely any connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Ms. Marvel’s” main character Kamala Khan, played by the delightful Iman Vellani, is a bright, funny Avengers fangirl whose powers literally sparkle.
Ever since Kamala punched her way into comics in 2013 with her “embiggened” fist, the Pakistani-American teen has been one of the most popular original Marvel characters. Adapted to the screen by head writer Bisha K. "If you save one life... you save the world." Disney has debuted another new 60-second "Destiny" trailer for a new Marvel Studios series Ms. Marvel, a sort of spin-off from Captain Marvel, similar to the Hawkeye series about a nerdy fan of the Avengers who ends up becoming a superhero herself. Ms. Marvel introduces us to Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City, NJ who writes superhero fan fiction. The series cast also includes Aramis Knight as "Red Dagger", Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, and Azhar Usman. Ms. Marvel might just be worth a watch,...
