Image

The Oscar-nominated “Wicked” and “The Substance” won two awards apiece: Jon M. Chu’s Oz musical took home period makeup and period hairstyling, while Coralie Fargeat’s body horror satire grabbed contemporary makeup and special makeup effects. Gia Coppola’s Vegas showgirl drama earned contemporary hairstyling.

It’s an Oscar race between “The Substance” and “Wicked, with the former as the favorite for its amazing prosthetics for Oscar-nominated Demi Moore as the mutated Gollum and Moore and Margaret Qualley as the hideous Monstro. Transformations usually win Oscars and this is the standout. The other three Oscar nominees are “A Different Man,” “Nosferatu,” and “Emilia Pérez.”

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game adds Bill Moseley and Skeet Ulrich
Mark Burnham in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One last year, and the developers have been keeping a steady flow of updates coming ever since. The next update is coming up on December 12th – and with this one comes the addition of Skeet Ulrich from the Scream franchise as a new victim character named Wyatt and Chainsaw franchise veteran Bill Moseley as a new killer family member called Bones. Moseley is best known for playing the character Chop Top in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (and he also appeared as Drayton Sawyer in Texas Chainsaw 3D), but since the makers of this video game only have the rights to base the game on the original film, Moseley has been given a brand new character to bring to life. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game is adding Maria Flores as a playable character tomorrow
Image
The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and the developers have been keeping a steady flow of updates coming ever since. They’ll also be adding a new victim character, and this one is an unexpected move: Maria Flores, the young woman whose disappearance kicked off the events of the game, is now going to be a playable character!

Fans have assumed that Maria was dead, but that’s not the case. As explained on the game’s official website, “Maria Flores, voiced by the talented Stephanie Panisello, is the heart and soul for our cast of Victims.

As written on the game’s official website, “Hands is a distant cousin to the Slaughter Family. The talented Robert Mukes (House of 1000 Corpses) brings this 7ft tall, nearly 350 lbs man, to life.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game will be adding a new killer, a new victim, and The Mill map
Image
I’ve only played a few video games over the last twenty years, primarily Halo online multiplayer and the recent Friday the 13th game that was hindered by lawsuits… and gaming sure is different these days than it was in my time, when a game was released in its complete form and then you just played the hell out of it. Now, if a game doesn’t get very frequent updates, players will abandon it very quickly. For example, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and even though it was updated a new map and a couple new characters at the end of November, I’ve already seen gamers complaining that it’s getting stale and will be pronounced dead if there isn’t another update soon.

“Coming 2 America” and “Cruella” are both nominated for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar, along with “Dune,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and “House of Gucci.” Since Muahs relaunched its awards in 2013, no film has won the Oscar for makeup without first winning an award from the guild.

‘Generation’ Creator Zelda Barnz Ties Series’ Loose Ends, Says Show’s Goal “Was Simply To Exist” Upon Cancellation At HBO Max
Image
Generation (Genera+ion) may not continue on for a sophomore season at HBO Max, but creator Zelda Barnz said the series achieved its goal within its short-lived airtime.

“I think its purpose was simply to exist, as something intimate and honest for queer people,” she wrote for Entertainment Weekly. “I’m grateful we got to make this show at all, because there was a great deal of uncertainty in even pitching a show about queer teenagers in such a specific setting.”

Just a day after HBO Max announced that it had opted not to renew the Lena Dunham-produced dramedy for a second season, Barnz penned her thoughts about the cancellation for Entertainment Weekly. In addition to responding to Generation‘s abrupt end, Barnz also explained the final moments of the series finale.

Inspired by Barnz’s high school experiences, Generation is a dark yet playful show that follows a...

‘Endangered Species’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Rebecca Romijn, Philip Winchester, Isabel Bassett, Michael Johnston, Chris Fisher, Jerry O’Connell, Brenda Ngeso, George Glenn Ouma, Aseem Sharma, Pritul Raithatha, Stephen Adogo | Written by M.J. Bassett, Isabel Bassett | Directed by M.J. Bassett

Endangered Species comes from writer/director M.J. Bassett who explored similar territory in both the 2006 film Wilderness, which saw teens put on an island and having to fend for themselves; and much more recently with Rogue, the Megan Fox, killer lion film from last year.

This film combines both into a story that sees Robert Halsey (Philip Winchester), his wife Andi (Rebecca Romijn), teenage daughter Katie, and young son Toby take a trip to the Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Wanting to experience adventure in the wilderness, they head down a forbidden road to a remote area of the vast national park without a guide, when a hair-raising encounter with a wild rhino leaves...

Endangered Species - Amber Wilkinson - 16863
Philip Winchester
When American oil executive Jack (Philip Winchester) and his wife Lauren (Rebecca Romijn) go on safari with their college-age kids Noah (Michael Johnston) and Zoe and Zoe's boyfriend Billy (Chris Fisher), it's not long before someone mentions the "Big Five" - rhino, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Keen film-spotters might also like to look out for the survival movie Big Five - a fractious group going somewhere they shouldn't, an accident, a wounded member of the party, no phone signal and a long-standing condition that requires now-destroyed medication.

Not much hunting is required as these key elements are laid out quickly after a basic set-up that establishes Jack is a workaholic with problems, who doesn't speak to his kids enough and has issues with the fact that his son is gay, but who decides to break a few rules in the...

Al Pacino Presents His Case In ‘American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally’; Lionsgate’s ‘Endangered Species’, ‘Moby Doc’ On Theater Slate For Memorial Day Weekend’ – Specialty Preview
Image
Oscar-winner Al Pacino and Meadow Williams star in American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally, the historical drama hitting select theaters this Memorial Day weekend via Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment. Michael Polish directed the film, which is based on a true story and follows the life of American woman Mildred Gillars (Williams) and her lawyer (Pacino), who struggle to redeem her reputation.

Dubbed “Axis Sally” for broadcasting Nazi propaganda to American troops during World War II, Mildred’s story exposes the dark underbelly of the Third Reich’s hate-filled propaganda machine, her eventual capture in Berlin, and subsequent trial for treason against the United States after the war.

Mitch Pileggi, Thomas Kretschmann, Lala Kent, Carsten Norgaard, and Swen Temmel round out the cast. The pic, which is based on William E. Owen’s novel, Axis Sally Confidential, is also available on-demand. William and Vance Owen’s book Axis Sally Confidential,...

‘Endangered Species’ Review: Hyenas Threaten to Tear Apart Family Before They Can Do It Themselves
Image
The other family-imperiled-by-rampaging-beasts movie this weekend, “Endangered Species” is different from “A Quiet Place Part II” in many ways, particularly in that its characters cannot stop yakking — with corresponding diminished viewer concern for their survival under extreme duress. Mj Bassett’s South African-produced thriller has a vacationing American clan doing all the wrong things in a Kenyan wildlife preserve. Needless to say, the local fauna quickly notice there are some fresh snacks on the savanna, to our protagonists’ grief.

The squabbling human dynamics make this outdoor suspense exercise one in which too soon we start rooting for the four-legged cast members. Slick and scenic but increasingly silly, by the end it has become perhaps the most preachily wrong-headed wildlife conservation adventure since the notorious “Roar” 40 years ago. Lionsgate is releasing to digital, VOD and limited theaters, with Blu-ray and DVD following on June 1.

Safari Gone Wild in 'Endangered Species' Trailer with Rebecca Romijn
Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romijn, and Philip Winchester in Danger Park - Tödliche Safari (2021)
"I'm no more equipped to deal with this than any of you." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an "intense, action packed survival-adventure" film titled Endangered Species, from director M.J. Bassett, of the other blatant "African animals are dangerous" film Rogue from last year. This one follows a wealthy American family who travel to the vast African wilderness of Kenya hoping for a dream vacation filled with excitement, bonding and a chance to fix the growing rifts within their family. But when their safari vehicle is attacked by a rhino protecting her calf, the family is left stranded miles from help and their dream vacation turns into a nightmarish struggle for survival where they're the bottom of the food chain. Starring Rebecca Romijn, Phillip Winchester, Jerry O'Connell, Isabel Bassett, Michael Johnston, Brenda Ngeso. Ayyy this looks like complete junk, vilifying all the animals more than the tourists who come to their home.

Image
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” captured the top period feature prizes for makeup and hairstyling at the 8th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night, making it the prohibitive Oscar favorite for the dramatic transformation of Viola Davis as the titular pioneering blues singer. Davis, who landed her fourth Oscar nomination as the sexy, subversive Rainey — the most of any Black actress — was boldly uncompromising in demanding verisimilitude for Netflix’s adaptation of the August Wilson play. Davis was fitted with gold teeth, charcoal-like makeup, and a wig made of horsehair.

Winning both contemporary makeup and hairstyling feature honors at the virtual ceremony was Warner Bros./DC’s “Birds of Prey. He recreated the look of real wooden puppets for the titular hero (played by (Federico Ielapi) and his theater friends by using every prosthetic technique available.

Meanwhile, in what could be a preview of the Emmy race, Netflix’s buzzy “The Queen’s Gambit...

Bornless Ones Could Have Used a Little More Gauze: A Film Review
*an online screener of this film was provided by Uncork'd Entertainment. Director/writer: Alexander Babaev. Cast: Margaret Judson, Devin Goodsell, Michael Johnston, Mark Furze and Bobby T. Bornless Ones is an upcoming indie horror release from Uncork'd Entertainment. The film is a demonic possession thriller, which admits its influences, specifically Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead (1981). The film could easily be used as a "What Not to Do" in regards to first-aid. These characters take a lot of damage, with friends causing a lot of the pain. The acting is also decent, despite some of the cast lacking extensive acting experience. The actors sell the film, especially the grimmer parts. This film viewer had only one major complaint, involving demonic possession. The characters's free will is removed, when the demons just takeover their bodies. As it is, Bornless Ones is an enjoyable time spent with a number of bloody scenarios. Horror...

Oh and there’s also scary possession, craziness and a fair bit of really well done gore. Seriously well done gore!

Now that’s not to say that Bornless Ones lacks originality in any way because it really does not. Ok, we may have seen the creepy house in the middle of nowhere that scares the crap out of its occupants before,...
