Pulse Netflix: Here's Why Danny Had to Report Xander
Image
Danny Simms and Xander Phillips' controversial romance in Pulse has led to a much-talked-about human resources (Hr) report that raises the stakes for both of them at Maguire Medical Center.

In Netflix's medical drama, which premiered on April 3, Dr. Danny Simms is a third-year medical resident who works under the supervision of Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips. Based on that dynamic alone, it is clear that the pair's relationship is not ideal.

However, the strong feelings between Danny and Xander were too much handle for both of them, leading to an intimate relationship that ended in workplace controversy.

Pulse season 2 could be in danger after Netflix's latest ratings drop
Image
Following its first weekend of release on Netflix, the new medical drama series Pulse might already be losing pulses and in need of the paddles. On Tuesday, April 8, just a few days after the show's release on April 3, Netflix revealed its latest viewership analysis, which spelled some extra good news for the thriller limited series Adolescence but some middling news for Pulse.

Once again, Adolescence broke some ratings records by moving past two seasons of Bridgerton to become the fourth most popular English-language Netflix show of all time with 17.8 million views accrued in its fourth week to add to its current tally of 114.5 million views. That's quite the achievement for the UK thriller, and one that Pulse couldn't be further behind.

In its opening weekend, the first four days of availability, Pulse grabbed 6.5 million views, which translates to 52 million hours viewed. Now, that's not the worst debut that a new...

Pulse Ending: What Happens to Danny and Xander?
Image
When Pulse viewers first meet third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), she’s having “a woman’s worst day at work,” creator and co-showrunner Zoe Robyn tells Tudum. Not only has Danny just reported her boss, chief resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell), to Hr for sexual harassment, but rumors about the delicate situation is quickly sweeping through their workplace, Maguire Medical Center. Danny is staring down a lot of questions — both from her colleagues and for herself.

“What happens if you’re in love with your boss? What happens if you also work in a very high-stress, high-pressure environment? What happens if you’re promoted to your boss’ position?” asks Robyn. “And if you’re also in a hurricane?”

Yet, by the Pulse season finale, Danny is smiling. Over 10 episodes, she manages to win the coveted title of chief resident, lose it to her best friend Dr. Sam Elijah (Jessie T.

‘Pulse’ Bosses Break Down Danny and Xander’s Finale Apology and the Changes Ahead in Potential Season 2
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Pulse” Episode 10.

“Pulse” may have kicked off with a big focus on the complicated romance between Danny Simms and Xander Phillips, and by the end of Season 1 the messiness between them seemed to fade into the background thanks to a long-awaited apology and an admission of guilt.

After Danny (Willa Fitzgerald) rescinded her sexual harassment claim against her ex, her future at the hospital remained under threat by Xander’s (Colin Woodell) influential parents, who hoped to get her out of their son’s way. When Danny confronted the disgruntled parent of a patient of her sister Harper’s (Jessy Yates), Natalie Cruz (Justina Machado) told Danny that she now had cause to fire her from the residency program.

Natalie faced pressure of her own: either fire Danny or give up control of the hospital’s emergency room. In the end she chose her pupil,...

Netflix Pulse episode 10 recap: Do Danny and Xander end up together?
Image
This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Pulse episode 10 from this point forward.

After the bomb that Xander dropped at the end of episode 9, it's almost impossible to just dive right into a new trauma, but that's exactly what Pulse episode 10 does. The season finale reunites us with Glenn, the ornery husband whose wife Kathryn brought their baby into the hospital in episode 8. You know, the father that Danny pushed in the lobby. They probably didn't expect to see this family back at the hospital so soon.

However, the family got into a car accident when Glenn attempted to beat a moving train. He was ultimately air lifted to Maguire after sustaining serious injuries in the collision. Glenn initially rejects care, but he's just worried about hie wife Kathryn and their son Benny, who also arrive via helicopter. Benny survived without any injuries, though Harper was right that he has pyloric stenosis.

The New Medical Drama Taking Over Netflix Is Perfect For The Pitt Fans
Image
Whether through a soap opera coating ("General Hospital"), the perspective of Hugh Laurie ("House"), or a long-running network procedural ("Grey's Anatomy"), the medical drama has always found tremendous success on television. Look at "ER," which ran for over 15 seasons from the mid '90s to the late 2000s. There's a built-in audience for these kinds of shows in which we come to know the patients that barrel though those hospital doors, in addition to the inner lives of the medical professionals themselves.

With that in mind, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the new Max Original series "The Pitt" has become a phenomenon and one of the most talked about series of the year so far. Even famed horror author Stephen King is raving about the show on social media.

"The Pitt" follows a rotating group of doctors, trainees, and other medical professionals during a chaotic 15 hour...

Netflix Pulse episode 9 recap: Xander reveals what happened at Kennedy
Image
This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Pulse episode 9 from this point forward.

Following the dramatic ending of episode 8, Pulse episode 9 finds Xander back at work as chief resident and completing an online sexual harassment seminar. While Xander still has his offer for attending, there's now a chance that Danny could be dropped from the program. When Harper asks why she dropped the complaint, Danny explains it's not because it wasn't true but because she just needs Xander to apologize. She still loves him, even with everything that's happened.

The team doesn't have much time to unpack the latest developments between Danny and Xander. An after hours nightclub was engulfed in flames by a pyrotechnics misfire, causing a stampede and multiple injuries among partygoers. Xander and Danny work together well as Xander steps right back into his role as chief without incident. He even works perfectly with Camila, who...

Netflix Pulse episode 8 recap: What really happened between Danny and Xander
Image
This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Pulse episode 8 from this point forward.

If your mind is still spinning from Danny taking back her complaint, you're not the only one. Pulse episode 8 opens with Maguire's resident gossip queen Cole already yapping to Elijah about Danny's retraction. Their gossip session is interrupted by a mother named Kathryn, played by guest star Katie Leclerc, bringing her baby, Benny, who stopped breathing and now won't stop crying. Harper and Elijah care for Benny, and Harper's concerned that the baby could be malnourished.

Meanwhile, Danny and Xander see each other for the first time in days in the Hr waiting room. Human resources wants to know why she changed her mind about what happened between them at the retreat, and Xander does, too. Danny doesn't seem interested in rehashing the details. She just wants to tell Hr that they both agreed to drop...

‘Pulse’ Creator Says Netflix Drama’s Complicated Romance Was Based on ‘Personal Experiences’
Image
“Pulse” centers around the complicated relationship between an emergency medicine resident and her chief, a power dynamic imbalance series creator Zoe Robyn said was inspired by instances in her real life.

The Netflix medical drama, which stars Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell as doctors Danny Simms and Xander Phillips, kicks off as the medical team at Miami’s fictional Maguire Medical Center prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Abby. A metaphorical storm has also hit the hospital though, as it’s revealed that Danny filed a sexual harassment suit against Xander — as flashbacks show that the pair has been seeing each other in secret for a while now.

“When I was writing the pilot, I didn’t really set out to write a medical show or a hurricane show. I was wanting to write the story of this Danny and Phillips relationship,” Robyn told TheWrap. “I was kind of drawing...

Netflix's 'Grey's Anatomy' Wannabe Earns a Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
For over 20 years, Grey's Anatomy has dominated as the most popular medical drama and one of the most popular drama shows ever. As a result, any new medical drama is benchmarked against it. Shows in this category are seeing a resurgence as streaming platforms develop their takes on it, and for Netlflix, that comes in the form of Pulse. Set in Miami's business Level 1 Trauma Center, the show explores the challenges of the medical field amid workplace drama. Even if the creators don't want that, Pulse has been compared to Grey's Anatomy. However, the show has not received as much acclaim from critics or the audience. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Pulse Season 1 has earned a measly 53% critic score. The audience side is not better at just 54% percent. The show has brought critics and viewers together, who normally don't see things from the same perspective. In contrast, Grey's Anatomy...

Danny's day begins with a visit from Harper and a breakfast delivery. She knows she's buttering her up to join her to check on their father. ‘Pulse’ Netflix Review: A Mediocre TV Show That Adds Nothing New To The Medical Drama Genre
Image
Pulse is a new medical drama series streaming on Netflix that does not manage to bring out the nuances of the genre and restricts itself to the typical tropes of a romantic drama about troubled and confused souls. Based in a private hospital in Miami, the series follows Danny Simms and her friends and colleagues, all of whom have to deal with complications in their personal lives, all while treating patients who are rushed to the emergency room. Overall, Pulse does not add anything new to the table, and neither does it execute the basics of the genre too well, making it a very mediocre watch.

Pulse begins with an introduction to the characters who are going to be integral to the 10 long episodes, who happen to be doctors, residents, nurses, and medical students at Maguire Hospital in Miami. At the center of this set of individuals is a young 3rd-year resident named Danny Simms,...

‘Pulse’ Recap (Episodes 1-10) Explained: Why Was Xander Suspended?
Image
Netflix’s 2025 presentation, the medical drama series Pulse, is nothing we have not seen before, but it can still be interesting to some because it is set entirely in a hospital and presents the (highly exaggerated) lives of the doctors and interns working at the place. At the center of its plot is a 3rd-year resident, Danny Simms, who has to deal with the many struggles of her personal and professional lives while treating patients who are rushed to the emergency room at Maguire Hospital in Miami. Overall, Pulse is a mostly mediocre series that will be appealing only to those highly interested in the medical drama genre.

Spoiler Alert

What is the Netflix series about?

Pulse begins on a rainy morning in the city of Miami, where a bus carrying a high school soccer team drives through the wet roads as the team is headed towards a competition. As...

The sisters quickly bury the hatchet, and Harper invites Danny to a party the residents are throwing. Danny doesn't want to go, and who could blame her?

Before the residents finally get to leave the hospital after the longest shift ever, they jump into helping the victims of a car accident. They presume the male and female victims are husband and wife, but there's much more to the story. Based on the evidence of their injuries, the doctors deduce that the man was performing oral sex on the woman while she was driving when they crashed. ‘Pulse’ Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Will Danny Return In Season 2?
Image
The 2025 medical drama on Netflix, Pulse, ends with quite a few twists, although none of them were particularly surprising. The protagonist, Danny Simms, faces a difficult time in both her personal and professional lives, as it is unclear whether she and Xander Phillips will get back together and also if she will lose her job at Maguire Hospital after Natalie Cruz warns her of such an outcome. Pulse’s finale also clarifies what exactly Xander had done at his previous workplace, while a slight window for a possible 2nd season is seemingly left open in the end.

Spoiler Alert

Image
This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Pulse episode 3 from this point forward.

Hurricane Abby continues to rage on as Pulse episode 3 begins, and Danny stands outside the hospital and watches as a lamp post falls on a vehicle. The heavy lamp post crushes the front of the car and traps a man in the driver's seat. Danny grabs a boxcutter and some extra hands. As the men try to lift the lamp post, Danny slashes the tires, which decreases the car's height and allows them to get the man out.

Danny happens to enter the staff locker room to change at the same time Xander's changing, too. She catches a glance at him shirtless, and even though he asks if she wants him to leave, she keeps the peace. He hands over his chief resident badge and they agree to a truce. Netflix Pulse episode 2 recap: In the blink of an eye of a hurricane
Image
This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Pulse episode 2 from this point forward.

Hurricane Abby continues to intensify as two paramedics, Nia and her partner, take the last call of the night. Pulse episode 2 opens with them stumbling upon a woman asking for their help. A tree fell on her house with her children still inside. They rush to her aid in spite of the great dangers.

Danny and Xander begin working together again, and it's inevitably awkward. But she wasn't going to make a fuss with Dr. Cruz and risk patients' lives during a hurricane to make her shift more comfortable. She's finding it difficult for others to respect her authority and decision making. They're still looking to Xander for his approval.

The hospital staff gossips about Danny and Xander, and they come to an agreement that Xander isn't a "perv" and Danny isn't a "liar," as they say.

The streaming platform’s first foray into the genre will be the drama Pulse, which is set to premiere on April 3, 2025, and will see an emergency crew deal with hurricane victims.

The series comes on the heels of Max’s The Pitt, which has been garnering rave reviews so far. That being said, there's a significant amount of anticipation surrounding its release, and people are eager to see if it can capture the same magic that made Grey's Anatomy a global phenomenon. I guess we'll have to wait until it releases to see if Pulse can live up to the comparisons, but this is definitely not a show you want to miss!
