What Did Benedict Cumberbatch Say About Dr Strange’s Future In The MCU? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Benedict Cumberbatch became a world-famous actor after his career breakthroughs in BBC’s Sherlock and his long-running role as Doctor Stephen Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the announcement of two upcoming Avengers films, namely Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Benedict’s potential involvement in them has come under renewed attention, and in a January 2025 interview with Variety, Benedict finally gave some answers on his future at the MCU.
The actor revealed that he will no longer be present in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, thanks in part to the retooling the movie received after Jonathan Majors‘ firing. He will, however, have a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars. The conversation wasn’t limited to his future in the MCU, however. Benedict also spoke about his upcoming film, The Thing With Feathers, and how he approaches acting.

Venom: The Last Dance trailer debunked MCU connections, crushing hopes of crossover theories with Spider-Man 4. Sony's Venom movies share continuity with Morbius and Kraven, separate from the MCU timeline despite fan speculation. The Venom: The Last Dance trailer negated multiverse narratives, trapping the Symbiote and challenging audience expectations.
The trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has dropped, and has seemingly obliterated two prevalent multiverse theories that connect it with the MCU. The Ssu's Venom: The Last Dance is the final installment in the Venom trilogy starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. Following a surprise appearance from Hardy in the Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits scene, many viewers theorized a multiverse related narrative for Marvel's fourth Spider-Man movie. However, the Venom: The Last Dance trailer has scuppered two of the most promising multiverse theories.

A new trailer has just been released for the upcoming game Marvel Rivals from the developer NetEase Games, and it looks like it will be a mix of popular characters from the Marvel universe as they battle other characters in an Overwatch-style 6v6 battle.
Throughout the trailer, we can see all kinds of interesting gameplay mechanics, character abilities, and even story content that will likely continue to grow throughout the years that the game is released, but it already looks like a major start to something special.
Thanks to the trailer, we know that there isn’t an official release date set, but there is a closed alpha coming in May.

Spider-Man: No Way Home introduces the MCU multiverse and brings together all three versions of Spider-Man, with a post-credits scene teasing Venom's entrance into the MCU. The ending of No Way Home establishes Spider-Man as a solo act, cutting ties with other heroes and making him more vulnerable to bonding with the abandoned piece of symbiote. The potential crossover between Spider-Man and Venom in the MCU could provide a fresh take on the character, with the symbiote seeking a host and finding one in the lonely Peter Parker. The setup in No Way Home may have deeper implications than initially realized.
Spider-Man: No Way Home gave fans their first real taste of the MCU multiverse, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man joined by his two predecessors in the role, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, uniting all three versions of Spider-Man as they attempted to contain a number of villains from their respective universes.

It’s been a difficult few months for the comics industry, as Covid-19 has virtually brought distribution to a halt, and put many stores at risk of permanent closure. With the main distributor Diamond unable to supply comics, it’s been a stressful time for fans and those running businesses, regardless of size. However, Marvel Comics have now announced that they’re planning to start releasing new issues from Wednesday, May 27th, in what should hopefully be a resumption of some kind of normalcy to the industry.
While it doesn’t seem like Marvel will jump straight back into shipping out its full schedule for distribution, there will be at least some individual titles and trades from the end of May. And here are the books that Marvel are currently aiming to put out on the 27th:
Amazing Spider-man #43 (FEB200924)
Avengers #33 (FEB200982)
Marauders #10 (FEB200894)

Not for the first time, a Lego description for Avengers: Infinity War has placed the Marvel fanbase on red alert.
Amid talk of Thor’s souped-up weapon – Mjolnir out; Jarnbjorn in? – Super Bro Movies has uncovered new intel pertaining to the Hulk and the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange. Each alleged story clue was weaned from a Lego description, of all things, so proceed with caution. Not only that, but there were one or two typos peppered across the text, which only leaves us feeling all the more skeptical.
Nevertheless, in the spirit of some good old-fashioned speculation, let’s deduce the potential story clues buried in each Lego description. Up first is “The Hulkbuster Fight,” which seemingly points to a battle against Proxima Midnight, a high-ranking lieutenant among Thanos’ Black Order.

The Defenders Season 1 hits Netflix on Friday, and I think we can safely say that there will be a Season 2, particularly since the next seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have already been announced. Early reviews of The Defenders are hitting Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, and the word is very positive overall. So, since it's never too early to speculate, let's talk about who should join the team going forward.
Marvel's The Defenders comic book debuted in 1971 by creator Roy Thomas. The team was initially made up of Dr. Strange, Namor, and The Hulk (who were soon joined by Valkyrie and Silver Surfer), and their early focus was very much in the Cosmic realm. In the team's first comic book arc, Dr. Strange teams with Sub-Mariner and the Hulk to protect the Earth from invasion by Lovecraftian interplanar beings known as the Undying Ones and their leader,...

Marvel has been very excited about the Legacy Series it is building up towards. With special crossovers of multiple characters including Captain Americas, Hawkeyes, Hulks, and Wolverines, it’s obvious they want to show that they still respect the old while showing something new. And it looks like part of that legacy will be showing the oldest of the old; the first group of Avengers ever.
In their series 1,000,000 BC Avengers, Marvel will follow some characters and symbols who have been around for millennia. We’ll get to see Agamotto, the dude who is always talking to Dr. Strange. We’ll also get to see the first Black Panther, Iron Fist, Phoenix, and Ghost Rider as well as Odin back in his glory days. It looks like a really cool idea. Sam Wilson: Captain America #22
Written by Nick Spencer | Art by Sean Izaakse | Published by Marvel Comics
When reading Captain America: Sam Wilson #22 I realized what has been missing in the grander Secret Empire storyline so far. In this issue we see Sam Wilson is the heart and soul of this story. Not only was he just wearing the stars and stripes, his closest friend is now betraying everyone he once stood for. Spencer has been chipping away at the life of Wilson and now with Secret Empire he executed his final blow.
Here we see how Wilson has been surviving in a country ruled by Hydra. One of the more intriguing aspects is how, in a way, Wilson has found the place in the world he has long be searching for. Now out of the public eye he can disregard the need to worry about his public persona...

Captain Marvel, the upcoming Marvel movie starring Brie Larson, is about to get a tie into Marvel's Ant-Man. It has been relatively quiet on the Captain Marvel news front lately. We are not sure what the major plot points are going to be and we definitively don't know how Carol Danvers will obtain her superpowers in the movie, which is understandable because the movie is still a year half from being officially released. But we do know that production is expected to start sometime in February of 2018 and that it will be an origin story that differs from the original comics. We now also know that Captain Marvel will be linked to Ant-Man through the Quantum Realm.
Dr. Spiros Michalakis is a quantum physicist at the California Institute of Technology and he recently sat down for an interview with Inverse to discuss his role in working with Marvel Comics as a consult on Ant-Man.

A mere sampling of some the films mentioned in Feminist Frequency’s thorough history of Hollywood whitewashing: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Apache,” “Murder Over New York,” “Prince of Persia,” “Aloha,” “Gods of Egypt,” “Ghost in the Shell,” “Dr. Strange,” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
Read More: Whitewashing Isn’t the Only Problem for Asian American Actors, Who Must Play Offensive Stereotypes
Host Anita Sarkeesian walks us through these examples while laying out in simple terms just why such images are so harmful:
“One of the most insidious tools of white supremacy is its insistence on whiteness as the racial default or as an ethnic ’empty’ category. White people manage to exist in a kind of invisible zone, where they are assumed to not have a race or ethnicity. This allows whiteness to wear the cultural, religious, or social signifiers of other ethnic communities, as if they were merely accessories to be purchased at the mall.

The Neca booth called out to me from afar with their lifesize foam figures of Deadpool, Harley Quinn, and Spider-Man. Unlike most items of that size, these were not just for display purposes. You can actually purchase each of these figures for around $1,000 each. Aside from the price, a total lack of space, and a wife I’d like to keep, I could certainly see myself a collector splurging on one of these because the quality is astounding.

The Academy Awards are upon us! Join us as we discuss our Oscar picks and those nominees which deserve to win the most.
There are currently almost 6,000 members in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). These people are professionals who have worked in the film industry and every year it is their votes which decide the films and individuals which receive Oscar nominations. Each member will select 5 nominees in the category of their work, and they also select nominees for best picture. These votes are tabulated and the people and films that get the most votes end up with the nominations, which are then voted on again by the Academy to select the winners.

Great Job, Internet!: The year’s best special effects sure have some weird behind-the-scenes footage
Sometimes it’s tempting to watch a movie just to see big, expensive special effects. Michael Bay, for example, has built his career on the notion that people will line up to see money falling out of the screen (also: lampposts). Often those movies leave you feeling a little dazed and worse for the wear by the end, and so this supercut of the 10 movies running for Best Visual Effects at this year’s Oscars is a sort of cheat sheet, encompassing the thoughtful framing of Arrival and The Jungle Book, the making of zombie Grand Moff Tarkin and baby Robert Downey Jr., and a whole bunch of Marvel shit. Man, Dr. Strange owes Christopher Nolan a sandwich or something.

Every once in a while the spectacle of the big screen should be enough of a reason to go to the movies, story and plot be damned. And if there is a movie, perhaps other than Dr. Strange, that merits that trip this year, it has to be the adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed.
Alright, so shoot me, I’m not really familiar with the game that spawned this franchise. But that Justin Kurzel’s rendition made it interesting even to the uninitiated is a testament at least to the technical savvy of his team. The adaptation—while extremely weak in the story telling department—is overall and exhilarating and breathtaking experience.
Thank perhaps the visual effects supervisor. If you’re reading this, you probably know that the Assassins are some sort of sect entrusted to protect the world from the evil Templars. In this film they...

Many of the recent comic-book and video-game adaptations have been defended with, “Well, it’s for the fans,” as though a) major movies are (or should be) designed with only the pre-existing audience in mind, and b) simultaneously pleasing fans and entertaining newbies was somehow impossible. (I enjoyed seeing the big window on Dr. Strange’s Greenwich Village crash-pad as much as the next comics reader, but that’s not all the movie had to offer.) “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is for the fans, all right, but in that expression’s worst way. Unless you’re thrilled by the idea of 133 minutes.

The pair manage to confuse and intimidate passerby with their raucous romp through the streets.

Had he only worked for a period of roughly ten years, Michael Chapman would still be among the best-regarded cameramen of his time. How else to qualify the man who acted as operator on Klute, Husbands, The Landlord, The Godfather and Jaws, as well as cinematographer on The Last Detail, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Hardcore, The Last Waltz, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers? (The decades-blurring Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid is no small achievement, either.) But then he’d go on to helm All the Right Moves (a key early point in Tom Cruise’s career), then photographed (to name but a few) The Fugitive, Scorsese’s video for Michael Jackson’s “Bad,” and, of course, Space Jam. How many people in his trade can lay claim to that wide a berth?

Big Bad Barnes. It was nice knowing you.
Barnes fully embraced his dark side on Gotham Season 3 Episode 9, but made the mistake of inviting Jim in on his little secret. Meanwhile Penguin learned the truth about Isabella and Ivy retintroduced herself to Bruce and Selina.
Well, that was one crazy hour. While I loved every minute of it, I was also a bit disappointed – mostly in the Barnes story. Did we really have to lose Big Bad Barnes so soon?
It wasn't surprising that he was going to look to Jim to be his partner. It was obvious that was going to be the case from how Gotham Season 3 Episode 8 ended. I think Barnes was hoping to tap into Jim's dark side. What he didn't realize was that Jim's already scraped the bottom of that well and that well is dry.

Thor has Loki, Captain America has the Red Skull, and Dr. Stephen Strange has Dormammu. If you caught Doctor Strange this week, then you’ve already met the otherworldly villain. Sure, Mad Mikkelsen was front and center in the film’s marketing, as evil sorcerer Kaecilius, but the big showdown at the end of the film is a mind-bending one on one confrontation between Strange and the master of the dark realm, Dormammu. It was a treat for long-time Marvel fans who might have been let down that a third-stringer like Kaecilius was positioned in all the marketing as the film’s sole bad guy. In the comics’ Strange was calling on Dormammu’s powers almost from the get-go. This is quite a departure from the film, where (spoiler) Dr. Strange admonishes the...

I’d seen none of the Marvel movies outside the Iron Man trilogy and wasn’t planning to dive into the McU with Dr. Strange. But positive early responses piqued my interest, and then I got a curious invitation to a screening preceded by a technical demonstration of the Dolby Atmos sound system. Never having gotten the financial willpower together to shell out the super-premium price to check out what 128 channels of sound (including speakers on the ceiling), it seemed worth a listen. The presentation turned out not to be about just Dolby Atmos but the Dolby Cinema, a package deal theater space you can currently only track down […]...

Decades before Marvel ruled the big screen, it had its eye on taking over the small one. Within a period of months, Marvel used TV movies to launch ongoing CBS series for The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man, but its third attempt didn't quite have the magic touch. When Dr. Strange aired on Sept. 6, 1978, those behind the production believed it would be a golden ticket to the CBS kingdom. But the movie tanked in the ratings — in part because it aired opposite a rerun of ABC's Roots, and in part because audiences didn't know what to

This is a weekend up ups and downs. Grosses compared to last year are up, and a sleeper success repeated at #1 with Tyler Perry’s return to form, “Boo! A Madea Halloween” (Lionsgate).
Surprisingly, the week brought for the first time in a long while a limited release Indian film. Fox’s production of “Ai Dil Hai Mushkil” took in over $2.1 million in only 307 theaters. Meantime, in only 36 theaters the year’s best-reviewed movie “Moonlight” grossed $900,000.
The next few weeks are among the most crucial of the year, with some hope that fortunes might be improving.
The Top Ten
1. Boo: A Madea Halloween (Lionsgate) Week 2 – Last weekend #1
$16,675,000 (-41%) in 2,299 theaters (+39); PTA (per theater average): $7,253; Cumulative: $52,019,000
2. Inferno (Sony) New – Cinemascore: B+; Metacritic: 44; est. budget: $75 million
$15,000,000 in 3,576 theaters; PTA: $4,195; Cumulative: $15,000,000
3. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (Paramount) Week 2 – Last weekend #2

It’s been a long time coming, but Brooklyn’s Alamo Drafthouse finally opens for business on October 28. On Monday, IndieWire got a sneak peek of the new dine-in cinema, whose opening was originally scheduled for this past summer before being delayed due to a fire alarm control panel that exploded. Everything about the new location, from the gourmet culinary offerings to the diverse programming, suggest that the Austin, Texas-based chain’s first New York City venue is going to be a big hit with moviegoers.

Marvel is continuing their habit of allowing critics and reporters to post their initial thoughts on social media shortly after the first screenings of one of their movies has completed. Now that the first screening of Marvel’s Doctor Strange has been shown, the tweets are coming. So far, the reaction from the critics seems to be mostly positive. Here are some of the tweets about the film’s advance showing.
Eric Eisenberg of Cinemablend writes…
* Prepare to dig #DoctorStrange! Not the strongest script, but it legitimately adds new colors to the McU, and the action is beautiful & crazy
Erik Davis from Fandango posted….
*The action sequences in #DoctorStrange are unlike anything Marvel's done. There are so ferociously loopy, frenetic & nerdy, I adore them.
William Bibbiani from Crave Online tweeted these thoughts…
* I wouldn't put #DoctorStrange in Marvel's top five but it's an entertaining movie with big ideas, gorgeous CGI and unique action sequences.

Over the past year, there has been quite a bit of backlash against the alleged whitewashing of characters in upcoming films. Marvel’s “Dr. Strange” and the live-action adaptation of manga series “Ghost in the Shell” have experience significant backlash for casting white actress in traditionally Asian roles, and the issue has come up yet again with the upcoming live-action remake of the 1998 animated Disney film “Mulan.”
Two days ago, the Asian Angry Man blog posted an open letter to the creators of the new “Mulan” film to protest the direction of the film after claiming to have read the script. In the script, the lead of the film is “a 30-something European trader” who only helps the Chinese Imperial Army because he’s infatuated with Mulan. This provoked an immediate negative reaction on social media, as the main thrust of the original film, and the legend of Hua Mulan on which it was based,...

While there have been teases and phots from set we haven’t gotten a look at Ghost Rider on Agents of Shield, till now.
Now when the hype started out for Agents of Shield with a flaming chain accompanying the show’s logo I said without a doubt that they weren’t going to be using Ghost Rider. I said hey it’ll probably be Hellfire as he was one of Fury’s Secret Warriors. Ghost Rider would be too expensive for a show. Actually my friend Rob said that as I was full on in for Ghost Rider. I must say my joy at being right has never been more obnoxious but moving on. Here is the newest Spirit of Vengeance to grace the live action screen as seen on yahoo.com.
Now despite the flack I liked the first Ghost Rider movie, not so much the second one.
