Jordan will step back into the boxing ring as Adonis “Donnie” Creed in the third franchise instalment and he will also sit ringside as the film’s director. MGM released the official trailer for “Creed III” on Tuesday in what marks Jordan’s directorial debut.

“Me and him bonded in a way that I never had an opportunity to,” Jordan said of Majors at a press conference on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my first time directing that relationship between director and actor. Over the decades, the sport, with its larger-than-life personas, minimalistic iconography, and opportunity for primal violence became a staple of the cinema medium. There have been prestige boxing movies, and there have been empty-fun popcorn boxing movies.

A titan among these movies, of course, is the "Rocky" franchise. From its indie roots and its poignant underdog story to its over-the-top live-action anime sequels that defy all logic but still deliver thrills, laughs, and big emotions, there is no stopping this franchise. The franchise even comments on the real world, as with a focus on the latest technology and engineering the greatest boxer in Ivan Drago during "Rocky IV."

But as fun as those movies are, they are not really representative of the real world, either...

It’s Michael B. Jordan vs. Jonathan Majors. The trailer for Creed III offers a glimpse at the next bout in the boxing franchise as Jordan’s Donnie Creed (son of Rocky rival, Apollo Creed) steps into the ring with Majors’ character Damian, a childhood friend who just got out of prison.

“I spent the last seven years of my life living my wildest dreams. Bianca, Rocky, my dad,” Donnie says in a voiceover as his successful career flashes onscreen, including a fight with real-life boxer Canelo Álvarez. “This is built on their shoulders.

According to the tagline for the upcoming film “Creed III,” “you can’t run from your past.”

On Monday, MGM released the first two official character posters for the upcoming sports drama, which serves as a sequel to “Creed II” as well as the ninth installment overall in the “Rocky” franchise.

The character posters showcase the film’s two lead stars, Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, sitting in a boxing ring, getting ready for an all-out brawl. Jordan reprises his role as the titular Adonis Creed, while Majors joins the franchise for the first time as Anderson Dame.

Boxing great Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez is teaming with Cartuna and Campanario Entertainment to develop an adult animated series inspired by his life and career, Variety has learned exclusively.

“I’m excited to see my story and my career brought to TV through this incredible medium,” Álvarez said. “It will give my loyal fans a new way to follow my journey to the top of boxing and can also bring new followers to this beautiful sport.”

Erick Galindo will write and executive produce the series. James and Adam Belfer, the co-heads of Cartuna, will executive produce along with along with Mike Flavin, senior vice president of development at Cartuna. Jaime Dávila and Rico Martínez will executive produce for Campanario Entertainment. The project is currently in development and is expected to be taken out to networks and streamers later this year.
