After a two-year hiatus from the film industry, Pooja Hegde has made a much-anticipated return to the silver screen with her latest film, “Deva.”

The talented actress, who experienced a dip in her popularity in Tollywood due to a string of underperforming films, including the much-discussed “Radhe Shyam” and “Acharya,” is eager to reestablish her foothold in the competitive world of cinema.

“Deva” recently premiered in theaters, and while it has received mixed reviews from critics, Pooja Hegde’s performance has been a standout highlight. The film is a remake of the acclaimed 2013 Malayalam movie “Mumbai Police,” which originally featured a gripping narrative and strong character arcs.

In this new adaptation, Shahid Kapoor takes on the leading role, bringing his own flair to the character.

Despite the film’s lukewarm reception among general audiences, Pooja Hegde’s fans have expressed their enthusiasm and support for her return to the big screen.

It is a known truth that no matter how stellar the cast or interesting the concept if the script and screenplay don’t click, the film’s a lost cause. A killer idea and powerhouse actors can only take a movie so far, but it is always the writing that does wonders. In a similar vein, you can have R. Madhavan delivering heartfelt and emotional dialogues and Neil Nitin Mukesh trying to be a cunning villain but if their characters aren’t backed by tight storytelling, it all falls flat. Like a dish, Ashwini Dhar’s latest film “Hisaab Barabar” forgets all the necessary ingredients, and fails to click with the audience. The screenplay is sloppy and manages to derail what could’ve been a great Ott addition, rendering it a snooze fest.

The film tells the story of a regular guy trying to pull off something extraordinary. At the heart of it is R.

In Hisaab Barabar now streaming on Zee5, writer-director Ashwini Dhir has his heart in the right place. He wants to address the growing menace of high-profile scamming whereby a handful of denizens in the billionaire’s club get so rich they can control the entire economy.

Dhir deserves a pat on the back for daring to bust the scam that our lives have become. The very sincere Madhavan is immensely likeable as the ant which takes on the elephant. He plays Radhe Mohan Sharma, a train conductor trained to speak up against corruption with disarming integrity. When he spots an eccentric billionaire, Mickey Mehta, scamming the Great Indian Middle Class, his hackles rise in protest.

This guy wants to change the world. But he lacks the power to do so.

Directed by Ashwani Dhir, Hisaab Barabar suffers from a lack of originality and depth. Things would probably have turned out differently if the character arc had not been as shallow and the storyline had not been so mundane. The plot definitely had potential, but the creators missed out on the opportunity and didn’t capitalize on the talented ensemble of artists they had on board. What was originally scheduled as India’s big Eid blockbuster for May 2020 is opening a year later in cinemas everywhere but India itself, where it came out on streaming platforms last weekend. In his guise as producer-megastar, musclebound Salman Khan has dispatched his minions to hollow out the taut narrative chicanery of 2017’s Korean thriller The Outlaws and reconfigure its carcass into the kind of flattering vehicle only a powerful Bollywood leading man can command. Despite some early welcome flickers of the kind of self-awareness that’s crept into Khan’s projects over the past half-decade, the result is very much back-to-basics. The more knowing nonsense only serves to make the eventual slump into third-rate pummelling more dispiriting.

Most of that nonsense, which prompts fitful back-row giggles, concerns Khan’s indomitable hero cop Radhe.

Warner Bros.’ Those Who Wish Me Dead was declared Doa as it opened in the US over the weekend, but Australian audiences took to the neo-Western, with the film topping the box office.

This is the second time Disha will share screen space with superstar Salman after "Bharat".
