Exclusive: Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn (Proof) has been tapped to write a new draft of Another Round, the English-language remake of Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar-winning Danish drama from 2020, which has Chris Rock on board to direct.
Rock joined the project in January, as we were first to report. At the time, he had a draft in hand from Stuart Blumberg but was looking for another writer with which to partner. We’re told Auburn landed the job after a long search, beating out maybe 200 scribes in the process.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions secured the remake rights to Another Round shortly after the film landed the Best International Feature prize at the Academy Awards. We’re told that the project is picking up steam now that Auburn is involved, though Rock did just sign on to direct and star in Misty Green, a Hollywood drama for which he wrote the script,...

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has tapped Scotty Landes (The Machine) to script Thicc, a new comedy based on Matthew Schneier’s 2019 New York Magazine article, “At the Russian Baths With the Big Boys of Brawn.”
The film follows an offensive lineman who, after seeing a career-ending injury cut his professional football dreams short, finds unexpected fame and fortune in the world of brawny male modeling. Todd Garner will produce via Broken Road Productions alongside Scoop Wasserstein via New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios.
Schneier’s article explores the rise and success of Img Models’ Brawn division, which focuses on plus-size male models, a groundbreaking initiative in an industry traditionally dominated by slimmer figures. Zach Miko, the division’s first recruit, highlights his journey from being mistaken for an electrician to becoming a sought-after model earning six figures. Despite initial skepticism, the division has flourished, reflecting a broader societal shift towards body positivity and inclusivity.

Yorgos Lanthimos can’t stop (won’t stop!) working with Oscar winner Emma Stone, casting the actress once again as leading lady for his next project “Bugonia.”
The drama will also star Jesse Plemons who, along with Stone, appears in Lanthimos’ forthcoming “Kinds of Kindness.” That three-chapter feature just premiered on Friday at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“Bugonia” follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. The script is from heat-seeking “Succession” and “The Menu” writer Will Tracy.
Focus Features has won domestic rights to distribute the project. Universal Pictures will roll out the film in global territories, save Korea where “Parasite” producer Cj Enm will release. The latter is financing the film with Fremantle. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent brokered the rights deal.
This package is loaded with pedigree.

Exclusive: The long running ABC series Fantasy Island is being reconstituted as a feature film by Blumhouse and Sony Pictures, the latter of which controls the rights to the Aaron Spelling series which ran from 1977-84. Jeff Wadlow is directing. He just teamed with Blumhouse on Truth Or Dare, the genre film that grossed $100 million worldwide on a $5 million budget. Blumhouse will co-finance the film with Sony.
Wadlow is writing with Truth or Dare co-scribes Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs and Jason Blum is producing. Wadlow will be exec producer along with Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson. Ryan Turek is overseeing for Blumhouse and Matt Milam for Sony.
The instinct is to recall the series as being a bit cheesy, propelled by the Fantasy Island opening where Herve Villechaize’s Tattoo would beckon the island overseer Mr Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) with cries of ‘Boss, de plane, de plane.’ But the series...

Sony Pictures has preemptively landed the film rights to Joe Henderson’s graphic novel “Skyward,” with Henderson adapting and “Rampage” director Brad Peyton helming.
Henderson will also executive produce, with Peyton and Jeff Fierson producing.
Based on the Image Comics graphic novel, the story is set in a world where gravity suddenly becomes a fraction of what it is now. Twenty years later, humanity has adapted to its new low-gravity reality. The movie will follow a woman born just after G-Day who has become accustomed to it, but has come across a dangerous plan to bring gravity back.
“Jeff and I are focused on making event films — regardless of budget or scope,” Peyton said. “‘Skyward’ is a big one. We’re very excited to deliver on what an anti-gravity movie should deliver on and be working with Joe Henderson on this.”
Henderson is currently the showrunner of Netflix’s “Lucifer.

Tentative ruling in talent boutique trial
A Los Angeles judge has tentatively awarded no damages in the heated litigation between the firms led by well-known talent dealmakers Barry Hirsch and Jim Jackoway, finding that absent a written agreement, it is "unconscionable" to require a client to pay a 5% commission to a firm once the representation has ended.
Judge Robert O'Brien made the conclusion in a detailed 27-page tentative ruling issued Wednesday. The decision follows a six-week bench trial before O'Brien in a case stemming from allegations that Jackoway and other lawyers conspired to force their partner Hirsch into retirement and that Hirsch then "stole" firm clients and files while defecting in the middle of the night.
Through a spokeswoman, Hirsch and his co-plaintiffs at Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof & Fishman declined to comment on the tentative decision.
In a statement, Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris said, "We are pleased the court has finally disposed of all the claims made by Hirsch and his associates. Although Hirsch and his associates once maintained that they were entitled to many millions of dollars, the court yesterday decided that they were entitled to nothing."
Jackoway Tyerman added that it was disappointed it could not recover damages for legal fees stemming from deals for Hirsch clients that "we negotiated while he was at our firm."
Hirsch and partners Robert Wallerstein, Howard Fishman, David Matlof and George Hayum left Hirsch Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris on Aug. 13, 2004, bringing 200 clients -- nearly all of whom had never signed written fee agreements with Hirsch or the firm. Hirsch had practiced with the firm for nearly 25 years.
That same day, Hirsch and his partners filed court papers asking a judge to dissolve the former firm. In a later amended complaint, they claimed breach of fiduciary duty based on the actions of partners Jackoway, Alan Wertheimer, Barry Tyerman and Geoffry Oblath.
The departure came at a time when Hirsch Jackoway was planning to move from a shareholder-based firm structure to a limited law partnership, which would have placed Jackoway in charge.
