As we’re all waiting for Marvel’s upcoming title, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we’re treated to a recent discovery that David Tennant, known for playing Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, originally wanted to play Reed Richards.

This is quite a shocker given how good he played a supervillain. Tennant wanting to explore the superhero side of Marvel is something fans would surely like to see, but I think he should reprise his role as Kilgrave because he’s just so good at that role.

Many actors absolutely vied for the coveted role of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but only one was chosen: Pedro Pascal. I’m sure he will nail the role, as with any character he has played in the past.

Iconic actor David Tennant divulged which Marvel Cinematic Universesuperhero he would want to play: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. Set to debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps this summer, the role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal. Other stars include Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Julia Gardner, Natasha Lyonne, Ralph Ineson, and John Malkovich. The events of the film see the titular team taking on the cosmic being, Galactus.

Despite not landing the part, Tennant doesn't have any hard feelings towards Pascal. Speaking at McM Comic Con (via The Hollywood Reporter), the Doctor Who star explained:

Former Dr. Who star David Tennant was a recent special guest at McM Comic Con and the 10th Doctor revealed to the audience that he wanted to play Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Said Tennant, "In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction. Although if it has to be someone, I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal."

While Tennant was never officially in the running for the role, his comments suggest that either he or his representatives may have expressed interest to Marvel at some point.

In terms of who was also up for the role before it went to Pascal, another Dr. Who alum, Matt Smith, was said to be in the running, along with Adam Driver and Jake Gyllenhaal.

A lot of projects are in line to be released over the next few years by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has opened up the prospects of a lot of old characters returning and even more new characters debuting. Being physically a part of Season 1 while appearing as a figment of Jessica’s imagination after his demise, Tenant has revealed that there might be a way to bring his version of Killgrave back to the screen. Now, with the hows entrenched in the MCU, and the street-level vigilantes having found their “Thanos” in Wilson Fisk, Tennant’s Killgrave would make an excellent secondary villain, while also being a return to form for Jessica Jones.

Scooper Daniel Rpk reported via his Patreon that actor Margarita Levieva has been cast to play the role of Matt Murdock's potential love interest Heather Glenn for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series on Disney+. Levieva was cast in the series in an unnamed role in 2022 as one of many new additions to Daredevil. She will join the original Netflix series stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin, respectively. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Levieva's role.

With The Variants at an end, Jessica Jones' current miniseries has come to its conclusion. While the comic was brilliant for anyone with a deep love for Jones, it is somewhat disappointing to see it at an end. After all, when a Marvel character's comic ends, it can be hard to say when they will appear again.

Still, the series helped to reveal just how strong Jones can be — both emotionally and physically. The character may no longer be a part of the McU-proper, but she is still in the hearts of fans everywhere and will likely appear on-screen again. Jessica Jones is facing a very weird challenge in her life right now, as seen in the limited series The Variants. A former slave of the Purple Man recently had a latent trigger in her head activated. While Jessica was afraid that a similar trigger could be in her own head, she was confronted by a series of variants of herself from across the multiverse. These variants included a Captain America version of Jessica Jones as well as one where she is still in her Jewel persona from her short-lived superhero career.

Jessica Jones is having blackouts and doesn’t know why. Matt Murdock is pressuring her to help a former victim of her arch nemesis, the Purple Man. Hammerhead and his goons are squeezing the owner of her favourite coffee shop for protection money and that’s just for starters. In court Murdock is trying to help Maria Snyder convince the judge the Purple Man told her to burn her house down (with her family still inside) and Jessica learns that he may still be just as much of a threat to her. And then multiple variants of Jessica turn up!

Oh look, it’s another ‘event’ book. Soon monthly books will probably cease to exist, considering how many of these event books both Marvel and DC pump out these days. Not a criticism, as publishers will just follow what the consumer wants. In the early days, mini-series were a nice side dish, a treat, to have alongside your monthly fix of Spider-Man or Batman. Now, monthly books seem very much secondary, with relatively low readership figures. Big event books, however, always get a readership bump, and therefore the publisher makes money, and everyone’s happy. The only problem for me with that model is you have to keep upping the ante with each mini-series, or finding some angle that’s not been explored, and that gets more difficult every year. Will this be the event that jumps the shark?...

I’ve always loved Jessica Jones, ever since her first appearance back in 2001. (Nineteen years?! where did that go) Her original series, Alias, was created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, with fab David Mack covers, and is still well worth a read today. She was created for the mature reader Max imprint and although since she has strayed into mainstream Marvel Avengers books, which tone her down a little too much, I’m pleased to see here she is back to her mature readers only roots. I haven’t kept up with every book she has been in, due to Marvel’s continual issuing of first issues and even putting her back in her costume, but usually things end up righting themselves, and this book looks like the one to do it.
