He had just before his sudden and unexpected death returned from Sydney, where he had been appearing in The Lehman Trilogy and was looking forward to continuing the international tour in San Francisco.

Best known for his role as Æthelhelm the Elder, chief antagonist in the BBC/Netflix TH series The Last Kingdom.

He was the face on the anti-drink-driving PIF Moment of Doubt on British TV, part of the DfT's 'Think! Road Safety' campaign since 2007. In December 2008 the advert won Best Casting at the BTACA awards.

He appeared in historical dramas The Musketeers on the BBC and The Devil's Whore on Channel 4.

Schiller took to the stage in productions of Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Veil, The Captain of Kopenick, The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other and Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme at the theatre.
