Stars: Danny Dyer, Stephanie Leonidas, Calum MacNab, Dean Harrison, Arty Dyer, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Phillip Ray Tommy | Written and Directed by Nick Love
Danny Dyer reteams with director Nick Love for Marching Powder, a sweary geezer comedy-drama that feels like a throwback (or should that be a dragback?) to the early ’00s. It marks their fifth collaboration – following Goodbye Charlie Bright (2001), The Football Factory (2004), The Business (2005) and Outlaw (2005), as well as Dyer’s return to the big screen after a ten-year absence.
In some ways, Marching Powder could be seen as a sequel to The Football Factory, since Dyer once again plays a coke-snorting (the title is a euphemism for cocaine), c-word-dropping part-time football hooligan. The difference is, well, he’s a lot older this time around, and the film does a decent job of questioning his life choices.

Iain Glen is a sturdy presence leading a Belgian village’s resistance to the German advance, but there are limp scenes and soggy cliches aplenty
Starting off with that forgettable title, this is a creaky drama that plods blandly through the fictional story of a Belgian farmer leading his village’s resistance to a plundering unit of Germans at the outbreak of the first world war. It all feels a bit familiar, and matters are not helped by the fact that the actors playing Belgians and Germans are all speaking in English in an assortment of accents. Oddly, some accents are more accenty than others; the German characters are all unmistakably German.
Game of Thrones’s Iain Glen is the film’s heavyweight, bringing a muscular presence to the role of the farmer, Leonard Lambert. At the beginning of the film, Leonard’s biggest worry is his son’s romance...

A Belgian farmer fights to save his family and fellow villagers from a ruthless German soldier at the dawn of World War I. The Last Front depicts the horrifying slaughter of innocent civilians with frank realism and a poetic contrast to their gentle, bucolic lives. Director/co-writer Julien Hayet-Kerknawi channels Terrence Malick as we hear both a torn protagonist and his cruel adversary's inner thoughts. War forces peaceful men to violence while also feeding the worst instincts of a merciless invader. The Last Front doesn't quite succeed in every facet of its artistic intent, but is a powerfully emotional experience.
Set in Flanders, Belgium in August 1914, Commander Maximilian Von Rauch (Philippe Brenninkmeyer) leads a battalion of German soldiers towards rural villages. His son, Lt. Laurentz (Joe Anderson) sees no distinction between enemy soldiers and civilians. He executes women and children after one of his men is shot by a sniper.

The Last Front
Director Julien Hayet-Kerknawi's war film, The Last Front, is set in a small Belgian village during the first days of World War I. Widower Leonard Lambert (Iain Glen) tends his farm and looks after his children. Tension mounts between him and his son, Adrien (James Downie), who has entered into a love affair with Louise Janssen (Sasha Luss), a young woman outside of his social class. Leonard warns him that he's asking Louise to make the same sacrifice his mother made, and stresses the hardship of life on a farm that grinds a woman down. He pleads with Adrien to let her go, but the pair are committed to one another. Meanwhile, two German officers, a father (Philippe Brenninkmeyer) and son (Joe Anderson), are locked in their own tense relationship, and when the two families cross paths, the impulsive young men ignite a spark that engulfs Leonard,...

Enrico Saller’s 2023 thriller, The Dark Girl, presented Laura Faun (Katharina Scheuba) as a successful novelist who had penned a plethora of best-selling novels. Writing had always been her passion and hobby, even when she was a kid. She used to hide under her blankets for hours and scribble whatever came to her mind on a piece of paper. Her morning routine consisted of getting up every day, brewing a cup of nice coffee, and sitting down at her desk to work on her next novel. It was a habit Laura didn’t like to break. Laura was happy in her tranquil life, thanks to her friend, who would do anything for her. But things weren’t always the same for her, or “tranquil.” When a fan asked her to sign her last book, Das Gift, she was forced to take a trip down memory lane. Unfortunately, her memories were haunting,...

Zdf Enterprises, to be rebranded Zdf Studios in April, has snagged worldwide distribution rights to the topical post-wwii dramatic series “Between Two Worlds” (“Ein Hauch Von Amerika”).
Skein is set in a fictional German town in the ’50s where a robust U.S. military presence is impacting the lives of its people, in particular the two young friends Marie and Erika, whose relationships with their family, community and each other are put to the test by the presence of a U.S. army base.
Commented Sebastian Krekeler, director Zdfe.drama, Zdf Enterprises: “The clash of different cultures and the defence of a free society is more topical than ever. Racism and anti-Semitism, emancipation and civil rights, tradition versus new beginnings – many of the conflicts that were fought back then are far from over today.”

If there’s a trio of categories that aren’t given the respect that they deserve (or frankly, any respect at all), it’s the short film categories. Be it Best Animated Short, Best Documentary Short, or Best Live Action Short, they all are mostly ignored by the masses, especially when the first two have feature length cousins in Best Animated Feature and Best Documentary Feature to compete with as well. Still, they deserve to be noticed, so I wanted to quickly list what’s in contention this year. I’ve included the categories in my most recent Oscar prediction update, so there’s that as well. The Academy Awards are the sum total of all the categories, so these have their place, no doubt about that. It’s just a shame that more folks don’t recognize this. Here are the three short subject categories and the remaining contenders...

VOD is where it’s at these days. In recent weeks, various titles have been scheduled to land on-demand before opening in theaters, from Lars von Trier’s four-hour-long sex epic Nymphomaniac to the Sharlto Copley-starring mind-bender Open Grave. The trend seems like it’ll only continue growing through next year, with simultaneous VOD-theatrical release dates being added to the calendar on a daily basis.

Dark Circles – no sleep! In other words: in this house no one sleeps! Just saw the first trailer for the upcoming horror movie which comes from director Paul Soter, and I don’t know what to say… it looks pretty cool to me. Basically, we’re dealing with some hallucinations, supernatural things, insomnia and stuff like that, so yeah – not bad at all, check it out in the rest of this report!
So, written and directed by Paul Soter, this horror movie (or, even better – another psychological thriller) follows young parents who move to a 19th century farmhouse in the country once their new child is born.
Happy family? Think again!
Or, even better – read the official synopsis:

Steve Guttenberg returns to the big screen in I Heart Shakey, in select theaters June 29th
Steve Guttenberg is the Chuck Norris of comedy. He's made of part myth, part legend, and a whole lot of Police Academy awesomeness. Yet, he's been absent from the big screen for far too long, only occasionally popping up in the odd, soon-forgotten Direct-to-dvd release here or there throughout the past decade. The last twenty years of his resume is chock full of films you've most likely never heard of, alongside a short stint on Dancing with the Stars. Chances are, if you're a young movie lover, you probably don't even know who Steve Guttenberg is.
Well, that all changes on June 29th, when "The Gutte" returns to select theaters across the country in the heartwarming 3D family adventure I Heart Shakey. Starring as Stubbs, Steve Guttenberg plays a war veteran who takes in a family pet,...

'Dark Circles' isn't a new horror about a murderous insomniac whose only distinctive feature are bags under his eyes but instead it's Paul Soter's new horror flick. I adore Club Dread. For my money, it's one of the few slasher films of the 2000s that really 'got' the subgenre and knew exactly how to operate within it. That it also happened to be a hilarious comedy was nothing but a big bonus.
That film's co-writer and star, Paul Soter (he of Broken Lizard), is set to direct Dark Circles, a supernatural flick from After Dark Originals. The film stars Jonathan Schaech (Prom Night remake), Philippe Brenninkmeyer and Andrea Frankle.
Synopsis:
When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist. Persistent sightings of a strange woman have each of them wondering if they are suffering from hallucinations or if their new home holds a dark, supernatural presence.

From After Dark comes Dark Circles, which comes from Club Dread's Paul Soter, one of the best parts of the Broken Lizard comedy troop (he's also starred in Super Troopers and Beerfest)! Pell James (Surveillance, Zodiac), Jonathan Schaech (Prom Night, ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2, Quarantine, Laid to Rest), Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Andrea Frankle and Michael Patrick Rogers all star. "Urbanites Alex and Penny escape their stuffy city life to raise their newborn in the country. Instead, they find their spacious farmhome harbors horrors that threaten their relationship, imperil their son, and drive them to acts that neither believed they were capable of, but both are powerless to stop."...

Groom, Charlie (Charlie Koznick) doesn't turn up to his wedding and his groomsmen are missing too. The bride-to-be, Kim (Alexa Havins) says if he doesn't show he'd "better be dead or dying." Naturally she'd have to make that comment and then take it back. A call is made where it appears there are two DBs in a bloodied fountain. They're not dead, but the missing groomsmen; Jack (Tug Coker) and Sean (Greg Winter). Tripp (Rex Linn) says the blood in the fountain is human, from their clothes, but it's not theirs. Horatio (David Caruso) says "someone's dead." Calleigh (Emily Procter) asks for Charlie's brush and a photo so they can check the blood for his DNA. Calleigh gets the last line before the opening credits now, which was always left to Horatio in the past. Natalia (Eva Larue) takes a sample from the fountain for analysis and to check the DNA.
