Sam Smith rules himself out of Bond theme for Spectre: 'I heard Ellie Goulding's doing it'

He's widely considered to be the favourite for the job, but Sam Smith has again flat-out denied he's voicing the Spectre theme.

The singer has said he'd "love to do it" but confirmed he's in the dark about who's behind the theme for the next Bond film.

"I actually have no idea. People seem to think I'm doing it but I have absolutely no idea what's going on," Smith told Capital London Breakfast Show hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon.

"I'm being deadly serious. I really think I would know by now!"

The 'Stay With Me' star went on to tip another singer for the job, saying: "I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, I heard loads of different things. It's definitely not me."

Goulding is no stranger to lending her vocals to film scores, after recording 'Love Me Like You Do' for the recent Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

Thought Bubble Anthology #3 Review
The Thought Bubble Anthology is the third annual comic book accompaniment to the Leeds Comic Art Festival which this year falls on 23-24 November. Most anthologies tend to be an even mix of good and bad stories though this year’s Thought Bubble Anthology was really enjoyable and features an abundance of absolutely brilliant comics from some of the best creators in the industry.

Marc Ellerby’s Chloe Noonan: Monster Hunter/Ellerbisms crossover was definitely my favourite as he sends up his own work (autobiographical comics), comic book perceptions of non-comics readers, and digital comics all in one brilliantly written and drawn self-contained story. The final panel is perfect and this comic will have you looking up more of this artist’s work.

Cameron Stewart and Brandon Graham’s One Night in Comicopolis is so good it should have its own series. A woman carrying a caption box through streets...

Vernon Kay caught trying to 'steal' BBC Television Centre door sign
Vernon Kay has revealed that he was caught red-handed while trying to 'steal' a memento from BBC Television Centre.

The presenter was found out by a security guard after attempting to take home a door sign, and was ordered to return it.

The sign in question was from his first dressing room during his stint as FBi host, back in 2000.

"It was a sign from my first-ever TV dressing room so I couldn't resist taking it for sentimental reasons," he told The Mirror.

"The security guard was lovely though and said he would put my name down for it if it came up for auction."

The BBC buildings in White City will close down on March 31, after being sold off for £200 million. They are to be converted into shops, offices and a hotel.

A source added: "Vernon had obviously had a good night after post-show drinks. Everyone was trying to nick stuff,...

The Last Days of Dolwyn
(Emlyn Williams, 1949, StudioCanal, U)

In 1986 the Welsh-language Coming Up Roses, directed by Stephen Bayly, an American resident in the principality, was the only British movie in the official programme at Cannes, and thought the harbinger of a major revival of Welsh cinema. It wasn't to be. But Wales has a cinematic tradition, and in his invaluable Wales & Cinema: The First Hundred Years, David Berry calls the little-known The Last Days of Dolwyn "one of the most distinctive postwar contributions to the cinema of Wales" and regrets that playwright Emlyn Williams, its writer-director and star, "was not inveigled into directing again". Set in 1892, it's a powerful, poetic, elegiac melodrama about the destruction of a tight-knit community when a Welsh valley is drowned to provide water for Liverpool. Williams plays the vicious agent of capitalism, an aggrieved, anglicised Welshman who persuades the impoverished local aristocrat and her leaseholders to sell out their heritage.

Gary Ross Will Take A Trip To Neverland
With the success of The Hunger Games, director Gary Ross has had a long list of hopeful suitors knocking at his door. Since he officially passed on Catching Fire, the decision about his next project has been anxiously awaited. Well, we now we have that decision: Ross officially will be directing Peter And The Starcatchers.

Ross was rumored to be involved with the project about a month ago, and today The Film Stage confirmed that he would indeed helm the movie.

The film will be based off a 2004 novel published by Disney’s Hyperion and written by Dave Berry and Ridley Pierson. The book gives the back story of, you guessed it, Peter Pan. The novel has previously been adapted into a Broadway production that has been nominated for nine Tony awards.

This film sounds like it could end up being quite good, I mean who doesn’t love Peter Pan?...

Gary Ross Following ‘Hunger Games’ With Trip to Neverland For Disney
After kicking off The Hunger Games franchise with great success (the film ended up just shy of $700 million worldwide), director Gary Ross pretty much had his cream of the crop when it comes to a follow-up. With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire not on the list by his own choosing, he began to pile up a number of potentials and now we’ve got confirmation on what his next feature will be.

Deadline reports after looking at him early this summer, Disney has locked down the filmmaker to helm Peter and the Starcatchers, dropping the potential The Secret Life of Houdini at Summit Entertainment. Ross is simply waiting on the latest draft from Jesse Wigutow and once that is delivered in the fall, things would move forward. This would keep Ross in family friendly territory, but still something wildly different than he’s previously done.

For those unfamiliar with...

Every so often since 1992, an all-star crew of writers — which has included Stephen King, Dave Barry, Amy Tan, Barbara Kingsolver, Scott Turow and Simpsons creator Matt Groening — have stepped away from their laptops and notepads to play in an all-author band called The Rock Bottom Remainders. By their own admission, the Remainders have never been what you’d call great. “We’re a novelty, like a dog that can dance,” Barry recently told EW. He said: ''I was offered some tickets to the women's beach volleyball, but because of the live show I can't go. ''So from an Olympics point of view, Beat TV has been the best and worst thing that has ever happened to me,...

‘Hunger Games’ Director Gary Ross to Adapt Less Murder-y Children’s’ Tale ‘Peter and the Starcatchers’
Gary Ross shocked the world by directing one of the year’s most wildly successful films, The Hunger Games, and then opting out of coming back and making its sequel. What could he possibly have to do that’s more important than making another bajillion dollars by directing Jennifer Lawrence shooting arrows at people? So far, we’re not exactly sure. He’s become attached to a biopic about the life of famed magician Houdini, but there’s no concrete word whether or not that’s actually going to be his next job. And now another possibility has popped up. THR is reporting that the director is currently in talks to helm an adaptation of the children’s novel “Peter and the Starcatchers” over at Disney. The book, which was written by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson and has already been adapted into a successful (it won five Tonys!) stage production, is...

Disney Wants ‘The Hunger Games’ Director Gary Ross For ‘Peter Pan’ Prequel ‘Starcatchers’
After exiting the battlefield that was The Hunger Games, Gary Ross may be swallowing some pixie dust for a live-action psuedo-prequel to Peter Pan. THR lets us know that the director is in talks with Disney to helm Peter and the Starcatchers. The studio recently hired newcomer Jesse Wigutow to adapt Dave Berry and Ridley Pierson’s 2004 novel, which gives the backstory to the iconic figure of Peter Pan. The Broadway adaptation of the novel has already been nominated for nine Tony Awards and winning five of them.

This attachment comes as no surprise, as Ross has been known to heavily switch up genres for his project, after helming Seabiscuit and Pleasantville. Considering he also succesffuly launched a franchise that will certainly bring in billions of dollars, one can bet he has his cream of the crop when it comes to what he wants to direct. There’s no telling...

Star Wars Designer Ralph McQuarrie Dies
Art designer Ralph McQuarrie, who worked on the designs for George Lucas Star Wars and its sequels, died today at the age of 82. The Indiana-born McQuarrie began his career as a designer after moving to California in the 1960s. In the mid-'70s, he was hired by Lucas to design Chewbacca and Darth Vader, in addition to other visual elements found in what would become one of the biggest box-office hits in history. "I just did my best to depict what I thought the film should look like, I really liked the idea,” McQuarrie would later tell the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I didn't think the film would ever get made. My impression was it was too expensive. There wouldn't be enough of an audience. It's just too complicated. But George knew a lot of things that I didn't know." McQuarrie also worked on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo, and Oti Mabuse in Dancing on Ice (2006)
Heidi Range has said that participating in Dancing on Ice is helping her cope with separating from Dave Berry. The Sugababes singer, who confirmed her split with Berry in December, explained that she embraced the gruelling challenge offered by the ITV skating contest to take her mind off her heartbreak. "Dancing on Ice was a great distraction from the break-up," she told The Mirror. "It's been good fun and different to throw myself into rather than sitting at home thinking about it. "I'll be lost when it finishes because it really does take over your whole life, and I have gone from a really difficult phase to throwing myself into this and absolutely loving it. I really don't know what I'll do with myself when it's over." However, Range admitted that she was "really (more)...
