Mission Impossible Movies
Personal Ranking
1. Ghost Protocol
2. Fallout
3. Rogue Nation
4. Mission: Impossible 3
5. Mission: Impossible
6. Mission: Impossible 2
4,5 and 6 are about equal. I like 4 a tad more but 5 and 6 are up there. 6 improves on everything in 5.
1 and 3 are about equal and I switch between which one I like more constantly
4s only weak link imo is the villain. It has my favorite action some of the best stealth and I like all the characters. Basically every sequence I think is great and the story is great. I also like how much more vulnerable the characters are without huge backing and support and the gadgets failing all the time. It also has a great balance of serious and fun. I feel the movies that follow this are a bit more grim/dark and lost some of the fun spy aspects. This one is still serious but it keeps the fun larger than life spy elements intact. Like the Krelmin scene has classic weird gadgets and silent infiltration and even classic disguises. But it ends in massive destruction and ends up pretty dark
This movie is the best Mission Impossible movie to me becaues it balances the spy and action perfectly. 5 and 6 are more action movies than spy movies.
6 I think has better action and sequences than 5 and a great story. It improves on everything I like about 5 but it still has the same issues. So I enjoy it more than 5 but not as much as 4. It also takes a lot of elements and aspects from 3 and improves upon it. Though it didn't do everything better
5 is well rounded and no real flaws but it's not my favorite. It has one of the series best stories on par with 3 and 4. I like the action, sequences, and characters less than 4 but they are still very good and are about second. The stealth was somewhat lacking in presentation and probably the weakest part of the movie. In fact as a whole it feels less like a Mission Impossible weird spy movie and more of a normal action thriller. It doesn't have the tech and gadgets that make the series special. Also has a better villain than 4 but not as good as 3. It's strong parts are just less strong than other movies in the franchise.
Basically I feel for most aspects of it there was a movie in the series that did it better. But it also has basically the best sum of the whole as it's basically second place in every area and every other movie had a clear weak part.
The reason 4 is higher is because its only weak part is the villain but the villain isn't actually that important to its story so its better in every other aspect
3 has the best villain and a solid story but its action is by far the worst. Ethans character is developed very well and its supporting cast is decent but ultimately unimportant. Simon Pegg plays a solid memorable side character but isn't much present in this movie and Michelle Monoghan is decent but is more of a plot device than an actual character. However the two villains are fantastic.
1 has a good villain, a good plot, and one of the best sequences in the franchise. Probably the most well rounded movie after Rogue Nation. It, however, lacks in many areas relative to the rest of the franchise. Beyond the famous infiltration scene nothing stands out that much compared to everything else. It's still good but it's just weaker than everything above it. The villain is good but not as good as 3 or 5. The character work isn't really anything special. The plot is good but nothing special. It's a great movie but just within the franchise as a whole its unimpressive.
2 has the best action of the original trilogy and has an entertaining villain but large parts of the story are boring and stagnant and it is incredibly dated. And the plot as a whole is the weakest of the series
