Thinking it would be better for everyone if she left Willow Creek, Carole agrees with her father to stay with her aunt in the city and says a heartfelt goodbye to Starlight. Meanwhile Melanie and Jess do everything in their power to hide the miniature donkey Trouble, first at Pine Hollow and then at home. And Simon, a new computer savvy student arrives at Pine Hollow, but his fear of horses keeps him from actually getting on a horse and he spends most of his time avoiding his stern riding instructor, Miss Amelia.
- Intent on keeping Carole from moving to the city, Stevie and Lisa try to un-arrange Carole's accommodation with her Aunt Penny only to be found out by Colonel Hanson. Unable to leave Starlight behind, Carole resolves to runaway with her horse. When Lisa and Stevie eventually find her, Carole urges them to camp out so her father and Mrs. Reg can't find them. Lisa and Stevie agree and begin to help Carole build a corral for their horses. When Mrs. Reg and Colonel Hanson finally track down the Saddle Club, what the Colonel sees makes him realize he can't tear his daughter from her friends or her horse. A goodbye party at JB's quickly turns into a celebration, when Carole announces she will be staying as Pine Hollow's first live-in border. The Saddle Club and other Pine Hollow students are ecstatic, but Veronica is less than impressed. Meanwhile Simon fakes an injury to get out of riding a horse but Miss Amelia sees through his scheme. And Miss Amelia resigns much to the relief of Max who now doesn't have to fire her.
- A favourite trail near Pine Hollow is closed off by Desi's father, but the Saddle Club are forced to trespass on it when miniature donkey, Trouble lives up to his name.

- The Saddle Club happen upon a disused gold mine and hear its history from Jess's grandfather, an ex-circus strongman called Orlando. Veronica heaps scorn on the old timer, so the Saddle Club resolves to teach her some manners...but things come unstuck.
- When Stevie gets injured, Carole and Lisa offer to stop riding, out of solidarity. Stevie thinks this is a silly idea, but Veronica realizes she can work the angle when she sees a magnificent racehorse brought to Pine Hollow.
