- Raja, a fisherman is secretly in love with Mona. When wealthy Ravi comes to live with his grandmother, Kamladevi, he sees Mona and falls in love with her. Mona also reciprocates his love. Raja is devastated by this turn of events. But when Kamladevi gets to know that Ravi is seeing Mona, she puts pressure on Mona to give up Ravi and marry someone else.

- A lawyer goes into hiding after being falsely accused of committing a crime while his wife gives birth to twins. One of the twins is separated at birth, while the other twin grows up to become an inspector who is on his father's trail.
- Although India obtained freedom from the British in 1947, Goa and its territories are still ruled by the Portuguese. A group of revolutionaries want a free Goa and are thus wanted by the Portuguese administration. Among them are Purandare, Narvekar, and Dinanath, and when Dinanath's whereabouts are known to the police, he escapes with his young son Ramdas and goes to their hideout. With Purandare's assistance they manage to escape, but they're shot. A horrified Ramdas watches Purandare shoot his father dead, and this is how he starts hating revolutionaries. Ramdas changes his name to Ronnie, befriends a girl named Julie, and grows up taking up crime as his career. He soon prospers and lets the villagers also prosper with him. Then when the Police Commissioner is shot dead, Ronnie helps the authorities apprehend his killer, a young man named Shekhar. He is arrested, tried in Court, and sentenced to be hanged. At this point Ronnie finds out that the people he assisted in the past are all against him and sympathize with the revolutionaries. Furious, he grabs a gun to kill Shekar's parents--and finds out who they really are and why Purandare shot his dad.
- Joginder, an honest police commissioner, is instrumental in arresting Alexander, a dreaded gangster. Alexander is granted bail by the court and as revenge, he molests Joginder's daughter Jyoti.

Geeta is the second daughter, who is widowed, and is now living with her family. Sangeeta is the only one employed, and carrying the responsibility of this family on her shoulders. When her father returns home, she hopes to resign from her job, and marry her sweetheart, Prem, but alas, the father again leaves them, and Sangeeta returns to her employment. Complications arise when Geeta falls in love with Prem, and Sangeeta decides to get them married. The family rent out a room to a struggling and unemployed young man by the name of Anand Bhatnagar, who is unable to pay any rent, and is secretly in love with Sangeeta. When Anand rescues Kalpana from killing herself, Sangeeta arranges their marriage. Unable to offend Sangeeta, Anand agrees to marry Kalpana. Things turn around for Sangeeta when Ashok finally quits drinking and gets a job as a waiter, and her boss, Kanwal, proposes marriage to her. Sangeeta is all set to resign from her job, get married, and live a comfortable life, not knowing that fate has something else in store for her.
- Mr. Singh lives a wealthy lifestyle in a mansion named 'Ashiana' on 10th Road, Juhu, Bombay, with his only relative, a niece by the name of Nisha, who is unmarried and runs the family's business that faces strong opposition from Khanna Group of Industries. Singh would like to see her get married but she hates wealthy men. So her uncle finds a poor man, Ajay Srivastav, but subsequently finds out that Ajay is already married and also has 3 daughters; then he decides to get Nisha married to a TV repairman, Yeshwant Bhosle, who ends up being a multi-millionaire after his invention is marketed; then he wants her to get married to Viju Guide, a Hyderabad-based Tourist Guide, who finds buried treasure and also ends up a multi-millionaire; then he wants her to get married to a motor mechanic, Prakash, who, in turn, ends up being the only son of wealthy builder, Jayant Amar Nath, and ends up getting married to his sweetheart and neighbor, Rosy. Finally Nisha meets her ideal match in Rukhtapur-based Suraj Singh, a wedding singer/dancer, and gets married to him - not realizing that Suraj is not who he claims to be and she is merely a pawn in a charade that has been created especially to pull wool over her eyes.
- In Mumbai, Kusam and Vimal's arranged marriage fails as he only sees her as a mother. After their fathers' death, Vimal loves another woman. Kusam attempts divorce despite India's strict laws.
- Johny lives a dual life--as a popular starlet and an international criminal wanted by the police for a number of criminal activities. He meets his lookalike Gopi, who comes from the village in search of a job; Johny offers Gopi the job, a salary, and a house to live in. This job involves playing the role of Johny so that the real Johny can outsmart the police and commit his criminal activities with ease. He teaches Gopi his mannerism and etiquette with things going as planned. But Gopi eventually gets trapped--both by the police and the underworld criminal gang.
- Ranvir Singh is in the employ of Raiszada Hukamchand, who is involved in criminal activities. One day Raiszada kills a man named Victor, and asks Ranvir to take the blame for this crime, for which he offers to pay him a lot of money. Ranvir agrees to do so only after Raiszada gives him a written confession, which he does. Thereafter Ranvir switches his clothes with that of the dead man, and they burn the place down. The dead man is identified as Ranvir Singh by the police, and his family, Mrs. Ranbir Singh, daughter, Geeta, and son, Sumer Singh, are informed of this tragedy. Years later, Sumer comes to know that his father is still alive, and under the name of wealthy Girdharilal, who is married to gorgeous Latika. When Sumer approaches him, he denies being or ever knowing anyone by the name of Girdharilal. Sumer then decides to expose him, little knowing that he is putting his life, as well as the lives of his mom and sister in danger.
- Indu lives a middle-class life with her widower dad. She attends college, meets Raj, and and they fall in love with each other. Raj follows Indu everywhere, including a picnic, to the chagrin of her professor, but Indu shuns her and sings and dances with Raj, then they take off on his motorbike. Some goons attempt to molest Indu, a scuffle ensues, she is abducted and subsequently thrown down a cliff, and the car with the molesters in it explodes. Thinking that Indu is dead, Raj loses his mind and is institutionalized in C.T. Mental Hospital under the care of Dr. Ram Kumar Verma. When Raj gets better, he is discharged, finds out that Indu is still alive, and goes to meet her and attempts to get intimate with her. It is then her husband, none other than Dr. Verma himself walks in, sees them together, and decides to kill them. He succeeds in killing Raj, but before he can kill Indu, he is arrested and institutionalized in the very same hospital where he works. One day he breaks out to finish his one and only mission: to kill Indu at all costs.
- Wealthy Dr. Shivnath decides to adopt an injured orphan named Rajkumar, who has been separated from his sister, Munni, much to the chagrin of his wife, Janki, who resents him and reserves her love for her two biological children, Premnath and Sudha. Years later all the children have grown up, and Dr. Shivnath may have nothing but regret in adopting Rajkumar - who is not only living a dual life; getting into arguments and fisticuffs with Premnath; but may also soon be arrested by Inspector Chauhan for marketing and distributing fake currency.
- Shakka witnesses the murder of his parents by some businessmen. Years later, he sets out to seek revenge and joins the same gang that killed his parents.
- Ramdas, his wife, Savitri, son, Prakash, and daughter, Sunita, live a lower middle-class existence in Bombay. They would like to get Sunita get married, and soon receive a proposal through Champabai for her to be married to Prem Kumar Saxena. They find the proposal suitable and Sunita gets married to Prem, and moves into his house. Prem lives with his possessive mother, Kantadevi; his elder crippled brother, Surender; and a younger unmarried brother, Bittoo, who is having an affair with their maid-servant, Lily D'Souza. Sunita finds out that she has virtually no respect, is ill-treated, belittled, and slapped around, just because Ramdas was unable to pay the entire dowry sum. Her brother attempts to help, and attempts to secure some money to appease Sunita's mother-in-law, Kanta, but not only is he unsuccessful, but also gets killed in the process. Lily confides in Sunita that Kanta is quite capable of feeding her poison and killing her, as she had done to Prem's first wife. Now Sunita is at the mercy of the Saxena family, and the only way she can get rid of her problems is by killing herself.
- Justice M.K. Roy is a traditional and orthodox gentleman, who is unable to understand nor appreciate the carelessness of today's youth. He has brought up his daughter, Shobha, with these same traditions, and he hopes to get her married in a good household. To his shock and dismay, Shobha is in love with Ramesh Saxena, an unemployed youth, who has no respect for tradition. Justice Roy is opposed to any alliance with Ramesh in any way whatsoever, until and unless Ramesh gets a suitable and respectable job, and learns to respect tradition. Ramesh does get a job with a textile mill, and gets a bonus payment, which is to be presented to him in an open ceremony, presided over by Justice Roy. When the bonus payment is being handed over to Ramesh, a woman comes forward and claims that Ramesh is her husband, who had abandoned her soon after their marriage.
