- TriviaThe scene in which RoboCop opens fire around the head of someone who is smoking, after which he says 'Thank you for not smoking', was actually licensed and run as a public service announcement ahead of several different films in many non-smoking movie theaters during the summer movie season that year.
- GoofsThe telethon fund-raising goal to get Detroit out of debt is 37 million. This is a ridiculously low figure for a city the size of Detroit, even in the state of decline depicted in the film. At the time the movie was made, the annual budget for city of Detroit was more than one billion, and could run 50 million budget deficit in just one year. When the city filed for bankruptcy in 2013, it was in debt in excess of 18 billion. There is also the issue that failure to pay the debt would apparently cause OCP to gain control of virtually all of the city's public services. The combined worth of that would likely be in the billions, and as such having that as collateral for a 37 million dollar debt makes no sense.
- Crazy creditsThe title of the film does not appear until the end credits.
- Alternate versionsThe UK VHS video release features a number of cuts for violence:
- A carjacking technique is missing
- A hooker pokes the a thief in the face with the heel of her shoe
- Duffy's face being smashed in glass is less shorter
- Duffy's death is shorter, including a line of dialogue spoken by Angie being lost
- Anne and Robo shooting bad guys and bloody exit wounds is missing
- Angie's death is less graphic. Robocop 2 breaks Angie's neck; this was cut.

Better than its reputation
Making a sequel to Paul Verhoeven's exceptional Robocop was always going to be a losing game. But director Irvin Kershner's effort is not all bad, although its reputation suggests otherwise.
While it's not significantly more gory than the original, Robocop 2 turns out to be more cold-blooded and manipulative in its depiction of violence: simply put, Kershner fails to inject the comic edge to such scenes, which Verhoeven seems to manage quite regularly. On the plus side, however, there are some good action sequences & nice effects courtesy of Phil Tippet; and the scene where a dismembered Robocop is suspended in the lab, eyes twitching wildly, almost matches any scene in the first film in terms of poignant intensity.
Almost.
