After a several decade-long career, famous director and animator John Musker is slowly preparing to retire. The 70-year old director is responsible for revitalizing Disney in the late 80s and 90s, so he is definitely one of the most important animators in history. His classic works include The Great Mouse Detective (1986), The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), Hercules (1997), and Treasure Planet (2002), but he has also worked on The Princess and the Frog (2009) and Moana (2016); although he won’t be returning for the sequel, Musker definitely left his mark on that movie as well.
The director recently attended the Animayo International Summit in Gran Canaria, where he promoted his new short film, I’m Hip!, but he also talked to El País about his beginnings at Disney, as well as about his opinions on the current state of things at the House of the Mouse.

What are the movies that allow you to have a good rest watching them without thinking too much about their hidden meanings? When Reddit discussed it, the verdict was that the most fruitful decade for such flicks was the 1980s, when lots of classic action films were released.
Here are 7 actions of the 80s to relax while watching them.
Die Hard (1988)
Bruce Willis’ cultish flick is one of the greatest action movies of all time. Following a police detective who starts a one-man war against a gang of ruthless thieves, it gave the world one of the brightest action heroes in movie history, John McClane.
First Blood (1982)
Another action star of the 80s is Sylvester Stallone, the lead of the action-packed Rambo franchise. Its first installment centered on John Rambo, a war veteran, who is forced to rely on his combat skills while he is surviving a massive manhunt held by police.

Rumer Willis has given an update on her father Bruce Willis as he battles dementia and said how he loves to spend quality time with her daughter. Bruce has five daughters of his own and is just as taken by the newest members of the family, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, who was born in April 2023. Her parents are Rumer and her boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas. In an interview with Today‘s Hoda Kotb, Rumer opened up about a recent visit from Bruce. “Lou is just starting to walk a little bit, and she was walking over to him, and it was so sweet,” Rumer shared. “He’s a girl dad, through and through. I saw him with my sisters, my little sisters. So you’re seeing that all come back again.” The Die Hard star, who stepped away from acting at the age of 67, was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022. Hollywood has no shortage of action movies and has cooked up some of the best action films of all time over the years. Bruce Willis’ Die Hard surely occupies a high place in Hollywood’s Hall of Fame for the genre. Not only did it branch out an incredible franchise, but the movie also inspired a bunch of other iconic movies like Under Siege, Speed, The Rock, and many more.
Die Hard (1988) | 20th Century Studios
Among these movies is Sylvester Stallone’s 90’s classic, Cliffhanger. Based on Willis’ top-of-class action film, Stallone’s flick would have never happened had the action thriller not been released.

Director Renny Harlin's "Cliffhanger" is a quintessential '90s action movie. The right movie at the right time, it is one of the few true breakout action flicks starring Sylvester Stallone that's not connected to "Rocky," "Rambo," or "The Expendables." It's a lean, fun, crowd-pleasing thriller that features John Lithgow in a great villain performance (a villain role that almost went to David Bowie) and remains a product of its time in the best of ways. It also might not have happened at all had "Die Hard" not become a huge success a handful of years earlier.
In a 2023 20th anniversary retrospective in The Telegraph, it's explained that "Cliffhanger" started with co-producer Gene Hines, who saw a TV show about mountain climbers in the mid-'80s. "That got him interested in the world of climbing," said co-producer Jim Zatolokin. "It's a dynamic and unique world with a lot of characters.

Naughty Dog’s Head of Creative, Neil Druckmann, made many fans of The Last of Us angry with his latest comments on the usage of AI in the industry. Druckmann, also the showrunner of HBO’s The Last of Us, commented that the technology helps achieve realism and push the boundaries of storytelling. While he mentions the ethical issues, fans believe that he has no idea on that matter.

Few types of movies sum up the 1990s quite like “dad thrillers.” A term popularized by the brilliant Max Read a few years ago, the dad thriller is a subgenre of thriller movies that was largely designed to appeal to older male viewers or otherwise featured thematic elements associated with that demographic. Yes, such movies often feature men being really good dads, but it’s about more than that. Dad thrillers were often closer to ’70s paranoia thrillers like Three Days of the Condor, which pitted crusaders of truth against staggering odds in a slow-burn narrative. They typically featured lawyers, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and dads in other thoroughly professional fields who were very good at their jobs. Many were based on books or otherwise inspired by the fictional and non-fictional texts dads of that generation loved to read. Some were theatrical hits but most of them found a home in living rooms everywhere.

After a stellar 1989, the Hollywood box office of 1990 was expected to be even better – but the film industry got taught some tough lessons.
Browsing the worldwide box office charts for 1989, and many a major studio executive would have been stroking their chin with some degree of comfort. The same old was working. The new things were working. Everything was getting better. The Christmas party was clearly going to be on the impressive side.
What 1989 had proven, after all, was the growing feeling that big stuff worked too. Tim Burton’s Batman had firmly introduced the idea of the huge opening weekend at the box office, and that a movie could become a cultural phenomenon. That patrons would leave the cinema and promptly seek out the soundtrack, the computer game, the book, the T-shirt, the novelty undercrackers.

June is busting out all over, especially on streaming. Whether it’s hiding from the heat or taking a break from school and work, Disney+ and Hulu are here to satisfying your mid-year entertainment needs.
Disney+ will premiere the first new live-action Star Wars since 2023’s middling to “The Mandalorian” Season 3 and “Ahsoka” with “The Acolyte,” starring “Squid Game” breakout Lee Jung-jae. The series is set before the events of “The Phantom Menace” with a familiar master-padawan storyline but new characters and a new era where that dynamic unfolds. The streamer will also premiere various new options for kids and family-friendly programming, as well as new episodes of “Doctor Who” starring Ncuti Gatwa.
On Hulu, FX comes in hot for the summer, along with an adaptation of Candice Carty-Williams’s “Queenie,” the brat-pack documentary “Brats,” and yes — more “Love Island.” The TV and film library continues to shift with new and expiring titles,...

In 1988, Bruce Willis committed a most grievous offense against entertainment journalists: he proved them wrong. Really wrong. Laughably wrong.
The newly minted star of ABC's "Moonlighting" drew the ire of just about everyone in Hollywood when 20th Century Fox paid him a whopping $5 million to star in the action film "Die Hard." This rankled rival studio executives, who only shelled out that kind of cash for long-established leading men like Warren Beatty and Robert Redford. While Willis might've been a minor media sensation due to "Moonlighting," with his surprise Billboard smash "The Return of Bruno" and his omnipresent Bartles and Jaymes wine cooler commercials, he had yet to prove himself worthy of a $5 million big-screen payday.
Before "Die Hard," Willis had scored a solid theatrical hit with Blake Edwards' dismally unfunny "Blind Date." This was the extent of his motion picture oeuvre when Fox declared him a massive marquee name.

Netflix has debuted the first official trailer for Trigger Warning, an upcoming action thriller that stars Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four; Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer; Sin City) in the lead role as a skilled Special Forces commando who takes ownership of her father's bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Alba expressed her excitement and inspiration for making this film. "I loved Die Hard. I loved Star Wars. In addition to Alba, the supporting cast features Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Michael Hall, Kaiwi Lyman, and Hari Dhillon.

Between its striking title, lurid artwork, and the timing of its release — 1981 bore the likes of Halloween II, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, The Burning, The Funhouse, The Prowler, and Happy Birthday to Me — one might mistake Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (also known as Night Warning) for a run-of-the-mill slasher flick. While it vaguely fits in the slice-and-dice mold, the film is anything but generic.
The prologue — which may have inspired Final Destination 2‘s unforgettable opening sequence — was directed by Michael Miller with cinematography by Jan de Bont, but Miller was let go by the production after falling behind schedule. He was replaced by TV veteran William Asher, who shot the remainder of the film with Robbie Greenberg as director of photography.
14 years after his parents were killed in an over-the-top car crash, Billy Lynch witnesses his infantilizing aunt-turned-guardian, Cheryl Roberts, kill a repair man in cold blood.

What is it about Speed that always keeps people coming back for more? Now celebrating its third decade as one of the greatest action films ever made, Jan de Bont’s positively explosive bare bones rush hour movie is a rare case of an enduring Hollywood classic, with insanely bankable stars, that hasn’t been re-upped, remade or rebooted to death.
30 years on, it has spawned a wealth of imitators, a legion of die-hard fans (50Mph podcast we see you) and an entire legacy of super straightforward, super effective action cinema. But really only one legitimate sequel. So, what happened? How did such an influential movie falter? Why is an IP-hungry Hollywood, that’s somehow so starved it’s willing to bankroll a 9-figure stuntman movie based on an ancient and barely remembered ’80s TV show, so Speed-phobic? And most importantly of all, is the original still just as good as you remember it?...

The highest-paid actors in Hollywood — Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves, and others — could easily command millions of dollars in upfront salary. For Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. earned a $20 million upfront salary and a $75 million total income. The precedent for these humongous salaries was Elizabeth Taylor’s upfront salary of $1 million for Cleopatra.

Irish director Lorcan Finnegan – already behind “Vivarium” – returns to Cannes with “The Surfer.” Starring Nicolas Cage, it follows a man who just wants to surf on a beach next to his old childhood home in Australia. But he is not a local anymore and he will have to fight for it – or lose his mind.
Nic’s character actually references “surfing as a metaphor for life.” Why did you want to explore – and maybe also mock – this philosophy?
I met Thomas Martin, who wrote the film, years ago. We wanted to do something together and then he mentioned “The Surfer.” It was about this one man, trying to deal with who he thinks he is and what he actually wants over the course of five days. It felt very contained, challenging and appealing to me as a filmmaker.

“Is Tamara here?” In May of 2008, those three words hung in the air with foreboding menace (along with “because you were home”) as Bryan Bertino’s The Strangers played in theaters and shocked moviegoers like myself with its straightforward approach to home invasion horror and random violence. Now, 16 years later, the masked murderers now known as Pin-Up Girl, Dollface, and Scarecrow are back on the big screen in The Strangers – Chapter 1, the first film in a new trilogy and the third movie overall in the franchise (the most recent being 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night). More of a relaunched expansion of the franchise rather than a full-on remake of the original movie, The Strangers – Chapter 1 still retreads a lot of the first film’s frights, but it does so effectively while weaving in its own intriguing story threads, delivering a promising start to a new trilogy of terror...

In the late eighties/ early nineties, shortly after they did Predator together, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John McTiernan and writer Shane Black were all set to team on a big-budget movie adaptation of the DC comic book Sgt. Rock. This is why, at the end of Predator, Black is seen reading a Sgt Rock comic during the cast roll. According to author Nick de Semlyan’s new book, “The Last Action Heroes” (buy it here), the project was heavily developed in ’88 and ’89, only to be demolished by an unlikely candidate – Monty Python’s John Cleese.
At the time, Cleese was riding high on the success of A Fish Called Wanda, and McTiernan thought he would be an ideal addition to the movie’s cast. The film was set to adapt an old Danny Kaye comedy called Imitation General. Cleese would play an English cook posing as a general during WW2 and being...

The Christmas movie is a genre unto itself. It includes all types of films, from classics like It’s a Wonderful Life to comedies like Home Alone to actioners like Die Hard. But while any movie can pop a tree and some stockings in the frame, a memorable Christmas movie must do one thing: make the audience feel the spirit of the season, an objective clearly at the heart of Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, which will see its Cannes world premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight program.
The third feature from director-writer Tyler Taormina (Ham on Rye), Miller’s Point employs a framing story about a multigenerational Italian family coming home for the holidays. But the film is more tone poem than plot-driven narrative, with an atmosphere of holiday nostalgia permeating every scene. In 1988, director Renny Harlin made a big splash in Hollywood when he directed “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,” which at that point was the highest-grossing film in the “Elm Street” series — and would remain so until “Freddy vs. Jason” in 2003. Two years later, Harlin had an even bigger hit with “Die Hard 2,” a movie that several critics at the time considered to be artistically superior to its predecessor. Now Harlin, whose credits also include “Cliffhanger,” “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” and “Deep Blue Sea,” returns to the world of sequels with “The Strangers: Chapter 1,” a sequel to Bryan Bertino’s ultra-creepy 2008 horror film about a brutal home invasion. As with his previous sequels, Harlin has both delivered the satisfactions of his source material and gone in his own new directions, in the process creating the most frightening thriller of 2024 so far.

It’s official. Amazon has confirmed the casting of Maggie Q as star of the upcoming Renée Ballard Bosch spinoff series, which Deadline previously exclusively reported. We’re also getting a first look at Maggie Q and Titus Welliver in sneak peek photos of the Renée Ballard crossover episode in the Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale. You can see above and below. Additionally, Jet Wilkinson has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the Untitled Renee Ballard series for Prime Video. Wilkinson also will direct the Season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, a crossover which serves as the introduction of Maggie Q as Renée Ballard.
The Untitled Renée Ballard series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination.

The 2000s saw the action genre in a state of flux. The Matrix revolutionized everything at the end of the previous decade, The Bourne Supremacy would make shaky cameras standard practice in 2004, and the MCU would take flight with Iron Man in 2008. At the same time, Michael Bay reached his ultimate form with Bad Boys II, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kill Bill made kung fu classy, and Oldboy changed the way we look at hallways.
Within those changes came a host of greats that didn’t get the same attention. Some of these movies represent the first steps in the development of those who would define the genre, such as Scott Adkins and Gareth Evans. Some find stars at the height of the powers, such as Donny Yen and Michael Jai White. And some are just cool, because that’s really all an action movie needs.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 11 “Inside Man.”] For its 250th episode, Chicago Fire took a page out of Die Hard‘s book: Men break into Firehouse 51 and steal Truck 81—but unbeknownst to them, Severide (Taylor Kinney) hopped on it! The firefighters, of course, call in the Cpd, and during the investigation, Ritter (Daniel Kyri) shares his suspicions about the newest recruit, Damon (Michael Bradway), who has been very vocal about his love for the firehouse (but lied about taking one of Severide’s classes at the academy) and has a reason he’s not sharing for being there. In other words, 51 is not having an easy time replacing Gallo (Alberto Rosende) or Brett (Kara Killmer); Violet (Hanako Greensmith) has brought Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) in full-time but she’s still very much a question mark. “New characters also bring out new sides of all of 51’s residents, so it’s been a...

Demi Moore showed off an amazing look while holding hands with her dress designer, Harris Reed, on Monday at the 2024 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Moore stunned in a floral gown with wings attached to spikes to embellish the theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
Reed, known for his gender-fluid designs, said, “Fashion needs to be about risk-taking, having fun and just like celebrating beauty and creativity. And I think when I was like, ‘We’re using wallpaper. We’re doing spikes. You’re gonna be a thorn.’ She was all about it.”
In March, Moore and her daughter trio appeared at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party to celebrate the Academy Award winners.

Actor Bruce Willis teamed up with Quiet Place star Emily Blunt and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the sci-fi feature Looper. Although an action film, Willis didn’t expect the movie to pack the emotional punch that it did.

Willis already knew what he was getting into with Looper. He once confided that Looper was one of a handful of projects he immediately wanted to do after reading the script. The 2012 Rian Johnson picture was about a man who illegally travels back in time and is confronted by his younger self. Willis wasn’t a stranger to time travel , films like Twelve Monkeys also focused on heroes trying to change the past. But speaking with Ain’t It Cool, Willis was excited because Looper was about more than just time travel.

We always love a good viral marketing campaign, and with Lionsgate gearing up to release The Strangers: Chapter 1 in theaters on May 17, they’re pulling out all the stops this month.
The three masked slashers from the franchise – known as Pinup Girl, Dollface and the Man in the Mask – have been showing up on home security cameras across the country!
Videos and images posted to Tiktok, Twitter, and even Next Door have been documenting the sightings, one of which is a creepy doorbell cam video of a roommate who was allegedly followed home by the masked trio earlier this month. Another video sees them lurking around outside of a gas station, eventually stopping to look directly into the security camera.
The Strangers were also spotted standing outside the Manhattan Criminal Court House, making for “a strange, slightly unsettling scene,” as one Twitter user perfectly described it.

Kevin Costner starred in the title role in the 1991 blockbuster film, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Costner was brutally trolled for his performance due to his accent, but the film still made huge bucks for the producers. Interestingly, Costner was in talks with 20th Century Fox to star in another Robin Hood movie directed by Die Hard fame John McTiernan. Morgan Creek Entertainment, who produced the 1991 movie, used a trick to poach Costner from the other Robin Hood movie.

Morgan Creek brought in Kevin Reynolds as the director of the film. Reynolds’ directorial debut was the 1985 film Fandango, which gave Costner his first starring role. Reynolds and Costner began a life-long friendship after working on the Steven Spielberg-produced film.

Halo Infinite is the first open-world game in the series, and its development cycle reflects that. Taking 6 years to develop on 343’s brand-new Slipspace engine, Infinite ended up releasing in 2021, after a year-long delay from its initial planned release.
Going the open-world route was a big point of debate for the return of Master Chief, as well as Infinite‘s unconventional direction as a “spiritual reboot” built on a smaller scale compared to other open-world titles. However, here’s why that might have been the very element that saved the franchise.

Speaking with The Gamer, Halo Infinite associate director Paul Crocker explained that the development team consciously avoided mimicking modern trends or relying on comparisons to other titles:

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. There is no doubt the typical movie villains are those who are less appealing and not as clever as the protagonists, who must win over them. However, there are some evil characters which are even superior to the good guys in terms of their intelligence.

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie or not? That’s a question that will always be up for debate, but what’s not up for debate is that Die Hard is a beloved franchise.
Bruce Willis starred in five Die Hard movies from 1988 through 2013 and the films have grossed a combined $1.4 billion worldwide.
The iconic actor played John McClane in the films and he’s the only actor to have appeared in all five movies.
The movies have earned a lot of money for 20th Century Studios, but how much do the actors have in their own bank accounts?

Jerry Bruckheimer has nothing but praise for Bruce Willis when looking back at filming the 1998 blockbuster Armageddon, which Bruckheimer produced.
The legendary producer told People magazine, in an interview published Tuesday, that the Die Hard star was extremely kind to everyone working on the film set, especially the crew members.
“Bruce is such a good guy,” he said. “He was so generous to the crew.”
Bruckheimer specifically remembered Willis, who he called a “giving guy,” always contributing to cash giveaways for the crew at the end of each week.
“They’d have drawings, and he’d throw a lot of money in the hat, and the crew members would always take away some nice extra cash at the end of the week, whoever won,” the Top Gun: Maverick producer added.

It’s safe to say at this point that the most well-known role of actor Samuel L. Jackson’s long and storied career is as Nick Fury in the MCU. But while that will likely remain his most recognizable character of all time, Jackson credits his leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 feature Pulp Fiction as the one that proved the biggest game-changer for his career.
Cinephiles are already aware of the lasting effect Pulp Fiction has had on pop culture and filmmaking itself. The film was only the second full-length feature Tarantino had ever made and is widely considered his best work to date. A twisting tale that deftly weaves together violence and humor, Pulp Fiction traces the journey of several characters whose lives intersect in strange and unexpected ways across Los Angeles.
