"The more you wear the Omnia, the faster it will learn." Lionsgate has unveiled the official trailer for an indie tech horror thriller called Latency, from filmmaker James Croke. This is another of these intriguing A.I. horror films, more of a sci-fi thriller, though it also has some scary moments in it. Starring Sasha Luss (Anna) and Alexis Ren (The Enforcer), Latency marks the feature debut of writer / director James Croke. This sci-fi thriller follows a professional gamer battling acute agoraphobia, tasked with testing new gaming equipment powered by A.I. - capable of reading her mind. As they experiment with this new tech, the line between reality and Hana's subconscious begins to blur and she starts to wonder if the device is helping her or serving a more sinister force. A.I. serving a more sinister force? Yes, it definitely is (that sinister force being greed). This looks a bit derivative,...

Victoria Justice, best known for her starring role on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” recently said on SiriusXM’s “Hits 1 LA with Tony Fly and Symon” while promoting her new single “Raw” that her upcoming role in the movie “Depravity” required her to film her first sex scene. The experience was “uncomfortable” but the crew pulled it off with “taste.”
“My first day on set I had my first ever sex scene. I’m like, ‘Really, guys? We’re gonna schedule this for the first day? Cool. Thanks for that,'” Justice said. “It is uncomfortable. I was actually very nervous about it and totally anxious about the entire situation, and I was like, ‘Did I make the wrong choice? I don’t know if I should do this.'”

Asphalt City (Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire)
I entered Asphalt City at last year’s EnergaCAMERIMAGE festival with nothing but morbid curiosity. Having engendered some rank responses from its Cannes premiere and not secured any known U.S. distributor, Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s film had the right kind of bad-object energy one needs at the jetlagged start to their week in a small Polish city. (Or just the comfort I personally get from a Brooklyn-shot feature featuring two Club Random guests.) I walked away boasting complicated, fascinated enthusiasm: nearly every second is ridiculous and never boring, and it doesn’t not deserve to play at a cinematography festival––having the most cinematography counts for something. Starting and ending with a blatant homage to The New World...

Exclusive: Taylor John Smith (Where The Crawdads Sing) is attached to star in What’s Left of Us, based on the 2009 memoir by Ritchie Farrell who has adapted for screen.
The project marks the next directing effort of The Fighter and Patriot’s Day scribe Paul Tamasy who most recently made his directorial debut on Paramount acquisition Depravity, also starring Smith.
What’s Left of Us charts the tough upbringing of Farrell in a working class neighbourhood in Massachusetts. To overcome a birth defect, his father pushed him to become a star athlete – sometimes he would use a belt as a teaching tool. Once, he used an electric carving knife. By the time he was 30, he was a heroin addict, stealing from friends, shooting up during visits to his children and running from shameful family secrets.

Whatever one may think of Luc Besson’s oeuvre, his films work best when they live up to their trashy potential. The director’s cinema is littered with all-out demented interludes and comic-book exaggerations. Think of Rihanna quoting Paul Verlaine’s poem “A Poor Young Shepherd” while gyrating on a stripper pole in his intergalactic romp Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets; or, more recently, Russian supermodel Sasha Luss mowing down throngs of thugs inside a restaurant in Anna. Besson’s always been particularly fluent in the art of the unreal, and Dogman, his latest, is engineered as one such tale: a pulpy story of an outcast who turns a whole pack of dogs into loyal allies in his fight against injustice. But the film never owns up to its deranged premise, and a staid, predetermined script sands off its most shamelessly ridiculous moments––the only moments when Dogman truly comes to life.

You really feel bad for these poor young ladies and totally understand their need to jump on Diamond’s father’s private jet and fly to his villa in Thailand for a booze and drug-fueled vacation.

"She's crazy!" Paramount has revealed an official trailer for Sheroes, an action thriller comedy arriving in theaters and on VOD to watch this June. This is one of these pretend "female empowerment" movies that is actually written and directed by a man, who has never directed a movie before (only produced them), which does not bode well. When four thick-as-thieves friends arrive in Thailand for a hedonistic adventure, they quickly find themselves in over their heads when one of them gets kidnapped by a notorious drug lord. As they fight to stay alive and protect one another, they employ a unique set of skills in a heart-pumping battle for survival. The movie stars Sasha Luss, Wallis Day, and Isabelle Fuhrman as three main ladies, plus Jack Kesy, Joseph Angelo, and Skai Jackson. Plus an unnamed Thai cast. So they stole that line from Taken and they're not ashamed about it?...

Irish producer Paul Thompstone and Sorin Baluta have launched a new sales agency out of Ireland. The company, Studio Atlantic, launches in Cannes with a World War II feature set to shoot in Belgium this fall.
Having specialized in production finance, Thompstone has a large network of funders, including private equity, for high-concept feature films and television. One of the company’s first titles is Julian Kerknawi’s World War II feature “The Last Front,” which will star Sasha Luss (“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”) and begin shooting in September.
Situated on Ireland’s west coast, Studio Atlantic is encouraging overseas producers to get in touch if they are considering Ireland — which hosted high-profile shoots such as “Vikings” and “The Favourite” — as a potential location in upcoming productions.

John Malkovich and Lilly Krug will star in upcoming action-thriller “Shattered,” directed by Luis Prieto (“White Lines”).
Krug (“Swing”) plays a con-artist, Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”) as the millionaire who falls in love with her and Malkovich (“The New Pope”) a creepy landlord whose curiosity overwhelms him. Frank Grillo (“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”) plays Krug’s character’s violent, manipulative stepfather. The cast also includes Sasha Luss (“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”), Ash Santos (“Joe Bell”) and Ridley Bateman (“Shelter In Place”).
The film, written by David Loughery (“The Intruder”) and produced by Silver Reel and Construction Film, has just wrapped in Montana, with much of the action taking place in the luxury surrounds of a mansion in the exclusive Big Sky ski resort. The project is now in post-production, with expected completion in fall 2021.
Claudia Bluemhuber (“The Wife”) is producing alongside Veronica Ferres of Construction Film, with Malkovich and Prieto also producing.

Luc Besson returns to cinema screens with his first, and presumably last, film he will be afforded to make after the colossal financial failure of his predeceasing feature Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, that has plunged his production company into chaos and, has been levelled a string of sexual assault allegations against the famed director whose credits include Leon and The Fifth Element. Besson’s latest, on paper at least, is exactly what he needs to fight against in his dark corner of sexual aggression. Gaining back an audience’s trust while also generating a significant profit margin to secure a future for his production company. However with Anna, his latest, Besson fails on both fronts.

Liam Cunningham and Sasha Luss have signed on for “The Last Front,” a Belgian-produced World War I movie.
Cunningham is best-known to legions of “Game of Thrones” fans as Davos Seaworth, but the Irish actor will swap the blood-stained battle for the Iron Throne for wartime Belgium. Luss, who took the titular role in Luc Besson’s latest thriller, “Anna,” will also star in the movie.
Julien Kerknawi will helm the picture, his feature directorial debut. It is adapted from his short “A Broken Man.” The short was shot in Flemish, but the movie will be in English. Harald House is producing, and its Kristian Van der Heyden will produce alongside Virginie Hayet.

Luc Besson captured my attention with Léon the Professional in 1994 and since then, I’ve wanted to love everything he’s done, but the man is incredibly inconsistent so it’s as if every other film is worth a look. However, he hasn’t really scored since 2014’s Lucy. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was a pretty misfire and now we have Anna.
The film, out now on disc from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, is another in a long line of admirable female empowerment tales. His French action-thriller has its moments, and a (literally) cheeky performance by Helen Mirren, but has a low-budget look and feel that never goes beyond the surface so every single character feels one-dimensional.

Disney’s domination over the box office only seemed to strengthen this weekend as “Toy Story 4” easily topped box office charts.
The fourth entry in Pixar’s animated series collected $118 million in ticket sales when it debuted in 4,575 North American theaters. While that haul is significantly below expectations, which anticipated a start near $140 million, it’s hardly a disappointment for the critically acclaimed movie.
Despite glowing reviews, box office prognosticators suggest that “Toy Story 4” underperformed because audiences were wary about the need for another chapter after “Toy Story 3” wrapped up the series so perfectly. The domestic debut is only a slight jump on that entry, which bowed nearly a decade ago with $110 million. However, strong word of mouth will likely keep “Toy Story 4” in theaters long throughout the summer.
Executives at the Magic Kingdom are optimistic about “Toy Story 4’s” triple-digit debut.

“Anna,” the new thriller about a supermodel who’s also a Russian assassin, is a film with many, many wigs. Long wigs, short wigs, red wigs, silver wigs. The film’s star, Sasha Luss, wears so many wigs throughout this movie that you may very well delight in counting them all. It’s probably the most entertainment you’ll get out of this flimsy “La Femme Nikita” knockoff.

Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4″ is heading toward $135 million in its opening weekend in North America, early estimates showed Friday.
If the forecast holds, “Toy Story 4” would rack up the third-biggest debut of 2019 after “Avengers: Endgame” at $357 million and “Captain Marvel” at $353 million. “Toy Story 4” opened impressively with $12 million in Thursday night previews in North America — the second-best preview number for an animated movie following the $18.5 million from Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” a year ago.
The early results for “Toy Story 4,” which brings back the familiar Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear toys after a nine-year hiatus, show the comedy coming in slightly under pre-release forecasts of $140 million domestically at 4,575 theaters this weekend. That would be the second largest animated opening after “Incredibles 2” at $182 million. “Finding Dory” is currently second at $135 million with the 29th biggest domestic opening of all time.

A vacuous performance from model Sasha Luss sinks the director’s attempt to add a modern spin on his 1990 thriller La Femme Nikita
Who or what is Anna? Answers include a reminder of director Luc Besson’s action movie credentials, an attempt to start a female-fronted assassin franchise and a showcase for the acting talents of model Sasha Luss. Or at least that’s what could be said of the film, sight unseen. Because in actuality, the delayed, and rather dumped thriller (distributor Lionsgate refused to screen the film for press) is an unqualified failure on all three counts, a wide-releasing multiplex dweller that instead works best as an undemanding late-night TV watch, exactly where it should have been offloaded in the first place.

All you need for a movie, Jean-Luc Godard famously declared, is a gun and a girl. His fellow French filmmaker Luc Besson has taken the maxim to heart, albeit with a few upgrades. You could also throw in a knife or two, for example. If the “girl” — a grown woman, really — happens to be adept at a close-combat fighting style and can use a white fur coat straight outta Doctor Zhivago to tangle up opponents while she kicks the crap out of them, that’d be a nice bonus. Some impromptu weapons,...

Luc Besson’s “Anna” wrapped photography in December 2017. Less than three months later, Fox released “Red Sparrow,” an extra-icy Cold War thriller about a Russian ballerina (played by Jennifer Lawrence) recruited by Soviet foreign intelligence to become an assassin and spy, trained to use her sex appeal as a weapon while leveraging her intelligence to outwit her handlers.
The day “Red Sparrow” opened must have been a very bad one for Besson, since that movie is basically the smarter, more sophisticated version of the story he’d imagined for “Anna,” which stars model-turned-actress Sasha Luss as a Russian assassin turned model who dispatches Kgb targets between fashion shoots. You get the picture. Except that even “Red Sparrow” was a rehash of sorts.
A year earlier, Charlize Theron had appeared in “Atomic Blonde,” an intense triple-crossing, Iron Curtain action movie, which gave the Oscar-winning glamour queen the opportunity to demonstrate that...

Luc Besson’s lifelong obsession with female empowerment has always been hard to square with his lifelong hobby of female objectification. The stylish French auteur and film mogul responsible for the likes of “Lucy,” “The Professional,” and at least nine alleged instances of sexual impropriety loves to build movies around blank women — usually fashion models — who can be reformatted with the power of his own design and costumed with the scant agency he’s afforded them.
In “Anna,” a competent spy thriller that would feel anonymous if not for its slinky bodies and recognizable psychosexual undercurrents, Besson’s signature tendency is expressed with the same literalness that it was in “The Fifth Element” and “La Femme Nikita.” Why start being subtle about it now? Caught in a tug-of-war between the CIA and the Kgb, the heroine this time around — a lithe Russian model named Anna who’s played by a...

Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4″ has launched impressively with $12 million in Thursday night previews in North America.
It’s the second best preview number for an animated movie following the $18.5 million from Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” a year ago. 2016’s “Finding Dory” had been second on that list with $9.2 million.
“Toy Story 4,” which brings back the familiar Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear toys after a nine-year hiatus, has been forecast to earn more than $140 million domestically at 4,575 theaters this weekend. That would be the second largest animated opening after “Incredibles 2” at $182 million. “Finding Dory” is currently second at $135 million, followed by “Shrek the Third” at $121 million. “Toy Story 3” bowed with $110 million in 2010.
“Toy Story 4” should also reverse the recent trend of sequels falling short of expectations with “Men in Black: International,” “Dark Phoenix,” and “Shaft” turning in disappointing performances. Critics have embraced the latest iteration,...
