When Hollywood dubbed actors like Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Demi Moore, and Rob Lowe as members of The Brat Pack, the label triggered an unwanted chain reaction throughout the group. The name came with a specific air, and several Brat Pack members saw the brand as a curse. In Andrew McCarthy’s Brats trailer, the teen comedy icon turned filmmaker explores the ramifications of becoming the poster child for Hollywood’s disaffected youth during the 1980s.
In partnership with Neon and Network Entertainment, ABC News Studios will bring Brats to Hulu in the United States on June 13. A Disney+ premiere will occur in select territories later this summer, following its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.

ABC News Studios, in partnership with Neon and Network Entertainment, today announced Brats, a new feature-length documentary from director Andrew McCarthy.
Brats will premiere on Thursday, June 13, on Hulu in the U.S. and later this summer on Disney+ in select territories, following its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.
Announced earlier this year, Brats looks at the iconic films of the 1980s that shaped a generation and the narrative that took hold when their young stars were branded the “Brat Pack.”
McCarthy reunites with his fellow Brat Packers—friends, colleagues, and former foes, including Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Jon Cryer, Lea Thompson, and Timothy Hutton, many of whom he has not seen for over 30 years—to answer the question: What did it mean to be part of the Brat Pack?

While growing up in the 1980s, teen-focused cinema took more chances than it does today. Films that could be rated R were PG, and offensive language and slurs came from the mouths of babes. In my generation’s defense, we didn’t know any better, and time has shown how dated some ’80s themes and characters could be. It was a hell of a time to be alive, and some actors associated with this era are ready to reunite and evaluate their most significant contributions to film with Brats, a new feature-length documentary from filmmaker Andrew McCarthy.

Exclusive: Ruchi Narain was obsessed with ABC’s early 2010s drama Revenge — so much so that she spent years trying to land the rights to remake the Mike Kelley show in India.
“I was addicted to the show,” she recalled during an exclusive interview. “From when I saw episode one a decade ago, I thought that this is it — something that should be taken to the Indian audience.”
Now that’s finally come to pass, with Disney+ Hotstar in December ordering a remake, Karmma Calling, from R.A.T. Studios. Narain has the led the adaptation process, and the screenwriter and director has told Deadline the story of how she approached the trials and tribulations of porting the Hamptons to Mumbai high society.
But first, it’s worth exploring exactly how the series came about. Narain, known for hit Indian films such as Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Netflix’s 2020 feature Guilty,...

Fashion designer Asha Daniels is speaking out against Lizzo in her first network television interview with ABC News Studios’ “Impact x Nightline.”
Daniels, who designed the wardrobe for Lizzo’s dancers on her 2023 tour, filed a lawsuit against the singer earlier this month, accusing her of creating a “sexualized, racially charged and illegal work environment.”
“I’m coming into work with someone who has physically assaulted me, with someone who’s threatened me, someone who is not allowing me to go eat when I need to eat,” Daniels told ABC News’ Janai Norman in an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap from the show that will air Thursday.
The suit also alleges that Lizzo’s management team made “racist and fatphobic comments mocking Black women,” and that Daniels was denied worker medical care and forced to “endure degrading sexual harassment.”

It’s been 10 years since audiences first met Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) in her quest for revenge on the wealthy Grayson family, who she believed were responsible not only for her father going to prison, but also for his death.
Loosely based on “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, the series, aptly titled “Revenge,” ran four four seasons on ABC, from 2011-2015. It followed Emily (real name Amanda Clarke) as she moved to the Hamptons to carry out her plan, only to become more embroiled with the Graysons than even she could have expected and to learn secrets about her father than shocked even her.
Here, the cast and crew talk about the series’ overnight success, the confines of network television and about the departure of a key figure integral to the show’s DNA.

Ten years ago, executive producer/creator/writer Mike Kelley rejuvenated the primetime soap opera with the ABC series Revenge. The serial drama, which debuted September 21, 2011, and quickly became a guilty pleasure, told the story of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), a former Hamptonite who returned to seek revenge against the wealthy Grayson family and their various hangers-on. Armed with a burning desire for justice, unlimited financial resources, and a pack of red Sharpies, Emily (born Amanda Clarke) eliminated individuals who had framed her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), for conspiring with the terrorists who brought down Flight 197, killing all 247 souls on board. Emily couldn’t account for every contingency, but the fun was watching her take control and remain two steps ahead of her adversaries—especially Victoria Grayson, played by the unparalleled Madeleine Stowe. One Shot is a series that seeks to find an essence of cinema history in one single image of a movie. A late middle-aged man wanders alone in the desert. Lost. He’s dressed in a baby bonnet and baggy cloth diapers. He clings to a raggedy green and yellow stuffed animal. Lab goggles and a face mask shield him from a whirling sandstorm. It’s impossible to make anything out in the landscape beyond a diffused gray veil of dust. Only a pin sized speck of light peaks out above him. His arms are awkwardly splayed out as he pushes his way forward. The brutal terrain pummels him back. The ground’s a barren tundra, inhospitable to human life. Is this even Earth? It is. It’s the Nevada desert. And Baby Ikki’s on his fourth day at Burning Man. He’s temporarily strayed off from the festivities.

ABC is making some big decisions about the future of some of its pilots.
The network has passed on the Revenge reboot, Thirtysomething sequel, The Brides, and Valley Trash.
Ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic forcing production to halt on all scripted series in the U.S., the Thirtysomething(else) was considered a shoo-in on the network's 2020-21 schedule.
The potential series first entered development earlier this year, with ABC later ordering a pilot presentation.
Here's the official logline:
Apparently, raising children -- even grown children -- never ends, but who could have known how hard it would be for them to raise their parents?
Reboot of the 1987-91 series 'Thirtysomething,' with emphasis on the original cast's children -- the new generation of thirtysomethings.
Returning original cast members include Ken Olin (Michael Steadman), Mel Harris (Hope Murdoch), Timothy Busfield (Elliot Weston), and Patty Wettig (Nancy Weston).

After years away from the spotlight Renee Zellweger made a comeback this fall with her performance as Judy Garland in the biopic “Judy,” but her comeback actually started several months earlier with her starring role in the Netflix limited series “What/If.” We already know she’s a Golden Globes front-runner for “Judy” (and the Oscars front-runner too), but could she get a surprise second Globe nom for her role on the streaming series?
“What/If” isn’t the kind of program you’d typically think of as awards bait. It’s a provocative thriller from Mike Kelley, who previously created the similarly sexy primetime soap “Revenge.” But the Globes often love a juicy soap. They awarded Best TV Drama Series to twisty relationship dramas like “Nip/Tuck” (2005), “Grey’s Anatomy” (2007) and “The Affair” (2015), and they gave Best TV Comedy Series to “Desperate Housewives” (2005-2006) and “Ugly Betty” (2007). “Revenge” also earned a 2012 Globe nomination for scene-stealing villainess Madeleine Stowe.

Revenge, a dish best served rebooted. ABC has a new show in development with original Revenge creator Mike Kelley that's basically Revenge 2.0. It centers around a Latina immigrant who arrives in Malibu to get revenge on a pharmaceutical dynasty responsible for the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic. She'll be guided by a character from the original show, and while we don't know who that is yet, original star Emily Van Camp does. "I can't say who, but they're bringing back a specific person, and I love that specific person, so it's exciting," VanCamp told TV Insider in an interview, going on to say she...

ABC is not done with Revenge after all.
Deadline is reporting that the broadcast network is developing a reboot of the hit 2011-15 TV series.
This new take comes from the original series creator and Executive Producer Mike Kelley, and writer-producer Joe Fazzio.
Both Kelley and Fazzio pen the pilot. It features the story of a young Latinx immigrant who arrives in Malibu to dole out some revenge on a "Sackler-Esque pharmaceutical dynasty, whose insatiable greed lead to the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic."
What's intriguing is that a beloved character from the original series is staging a comeback to guide this young woman on her pathway to exact revenge.
As for which character that is, we don't know yet. Given that there were rumblings that a spin-off series featuring Gabriel Mann's Nolan Ross, then...

ABC isn’t done getting Revenge: The network is developing a follow-up to its 2011-15 drama, which hails from the original series’ creative team, according to our sister site Deadline.
The potential series — which will reportedly also be titled Revenge — will follow a young Latinx immigrant who arrives in Malibu to exact revenge on a pharmaceutical dynasty that caused “the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family and a global epidemic.” (That’s quite a résumé.)
