Bearing little resemblance to the 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford, Presumed Innocent has been adapted into an Apple TV+ limited series. This update features an old-fashioned, pulpy feel reminiscent of classic courtroom dramas, complete with dramatic flourishes that don’t often occur in real trials. Anchored by Jake Gyllenhaal, this series functions as a typical check-your-brain-at-the-courthouse-steps exercise. A New Yet Familiar Courtroom Drama Writer David E. Kelley, known for his extensive list of legal dramas dating back to L.A. Law, collaborates with producer J.J. Abrams on this adaptation of Scott Turow’s book. This eight-episode format noticeably takes too long before getting...

Indiana Jones is arguably the franchise that established Harrison Ford as the industry legend that he is, along with his time as Han Solo in George Lucas’ other great venture, Star Wars. When people think about Indiana Jones, they usually reminisce about an adventurous professor, an archaeologist with a heart of gold and a strong, virtuous moral code. However, it appears George Lucas, who contributed toward the creation of the character alongside Steven Spielberg, had a very different characterization in mind.
Harrison Ford as Indian Jones || Lucasfilm
George Lucas originally envisioned the character as a soldier of fortune, an archaeologist who sells his finds to make large sums of money and fund a lavish, exotic lifestyle, sort of like a classic rogue archetype. However, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford envisioned the character quite differently, which led to the version of the archaeologist that fans have become familiar with in the films.

The first episode of Presumed Innocent begins with Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rozat “Rusty” Sabich receiving a phone call informing him of the murder of his friend Carolyn Polhemus, and he rushes to the scene of the crime. Rusty’s wife Barbara was equally shocked, as Carolyn was known to everyone in the district attorney’s office and Rusty’s family. She was found bludgeoned to death with her hands and legs tied together. Rusty was in shock, but he had to pick up the pieces of the tragedy and...

In its lean two-hour runtime, Alan J. Pakula’s 1990 adaptation of “Presumed Innocent” makes a number of incisive points about the American judicial system. First and foremost, it questions whether a courtroom is where truth is ascertained, or merely where various facts are tossed about until a version of the truth satisfies the controlling parties.
Each fallible, failing step in the process of trying a man for murder is given enough of a nudge to amplify the viewer’s unease, be it ingrained biases of supposedly neutral adjudicators, political influences dictating an individual’s freedom, or the sexist assumptions inherent to yet another patriarchal American institution. What’s left, in the end, isn’t just a climactic verdict for the accused — and a juicy reveal outside the courtroom — but the ruins of a man who lived his life for the law, if not also the legal apparatus itself.

Presumed Innocent, a novel published in 1987 by lawyer-turned-author Scott Turow, came from a specific era of popular fiction about the law, which prefigured John Grisham's massive run not long after.
Grisham's novels featured heroic lawyers against mobsters, Klansmen, and other bad guys.
Turow's most popular novel, on the other hand, was the much less heroic story of a prosecuting attorney accused of murdering a fellow lawyer, a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair.
Just as Grisham's novels The Firm, A Time to Kill, and The Pelican Brief drew considerable interest from Hollywood, Turow's novel Presumed Innocent was made into a movie in 1990, directed by Alan J. Pakula (All the President's Men).

In 1981, at the height of a cinematic rejuvenation for Hollywood, Steven Spielberg, in collaboration with George Lucas birthed the Indiana Jones franchise. Spanning across the genres of adventure, sci-fi, and adventure, the series quickly climbed up in popularity.
Famed for its iconic scenes, visual imagery, and well-gelled storyline, it quickly branched into popular culture with television series, novels, comics, video games, and theme park attractions based upon it.

A major share of the success belonged to the leading man, Harrison Ford, and his acting prowess. The Han Solo actor brought with him his unique charisma that truly brought the fictional archaeologist to life. However, even he alone would not have catered to the storyline demands if not for his supporting cast, including his beloved sidekick Sallah.

Watching the dutiful and occasionally gripping remake of Presumed Innocent, Scott Turow’s 1987 bestseller that became a hit movie for Harrison Ford back in the day, I kept wondering about the statute of fictional limitations. Maybe 30-odd years is enough time to allow for a new take on such a well-known warhorse. Or maybe not. Even if well done, it’s been done. And while the 1990 movie clocks in at just over two hours, David E. Kelley‘s indulgent and often very loose adaptation plods over eight episodes. This gives more time to depict the emotional fallout on the family of hotshot Chicago prosecutor Rusty Sabich after he’s accused of the brutal murder of his co-worker mistress. Kelley has been a master of the TV courtroom drama since his L.A. Law heyday back around the time of Presumed Innocent‘s blockbuster publication. ...

Fresh from routinely beating up dozens of violent idiots in the riotously entertaining Prime Video remake of Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal now dips his toe into the world of long-form prestige TV drama for the first time in what is ostensibly a more cerebral role as public prosecutor Rusty Sabich (rhymes with “savage”) in this new adaptation of Scott Turow’s 1987 bestseller.
The book was previously turned into a hit movie with Harrison Ford in the lead role in 1990, but while Ford’s performance was suitably enigmatic, never giving much away, Gyllenhaal depicts Sabich as a charming family man and principled public servant who also has major anger and honesty issues beneath his slickly handsome exterior. The more we get to know him, there’s an increasing sense that Gyllenhaal’s version of the character is desperately trying to keep a lid on his emotions.

Created by David. E. Kelly, co-produced by and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Presumed Innocent is a binge-worthy legal thriller. The series is loosely based on Scott Turow’s novel of the same name, which was previously adapted into a film featuring Harrison Ford. Jake Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Rusty Sabich introduces a perpetual sense of uncertainty with an untrustworthy protagonist at its core. As much as the audience would want to trust the chief deputy prosecutor, the more his secrets were revealed, the more dubious he seemed.

Presumed Innocent was released in 1987, and the twisty character study of Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who finds himself on the other side of the justice system when he’s accused of murdering a former colleague, breathed new life into dramatic jurisprudence. It was a smash hit, as was Alan J. Pakula’s solid 1990 big-screen version, which kickstarted a tiny subgenre of Chicago-set films in which Harrison Ford either did or didn’t kill the woman he was sleeping with. Both the book and the film were accused of either misogyny or myopia in their treatment of their female characters; both were products of a moment at which...

Near the end of Irvin Kershner's 1980 space epic "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back," the roguish Han Solo (Harrison Ford), the outspoken Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), the friendly wookiee Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), and the persnickety droid C-3Po (Anthony Daniels) hide in the Cloud City mining colony on the planet Bespin, hoping to elude capture by the evil Empire. If there’s been one complaint we’ve been hearing for years regarding Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, it’s the overreliance on CGI. Ok, the lack of direction is also a common annoyance, but we will focus on abundant bluescreens. Luckily, it appears that Thunderbolts* may break Marvel’s addiction to computer-generated imagery.
While speaking with The Daily, one of the stars of the upcoming semi-grounded superhero movie said we should expect a more human story focused on people rather than spectacle.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who previously played Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, delivered the good news. In the interview, she said, “They are trying to stay away from [CGI] as much…”
The former Seinfeld star also commented on how the story will be a more character-driven outing, something we’ve only seen done well in the Guardians trilogy:

Portrayed by Ian McDiarmid in the prequel trilogy, the character has been a key figure in all the trilogies.

It makes sense that David E. Kelley would find his way back to the work of Scott Turow, one of the most popular authors of his era. They’re kindred spirits in a sense, both former attorneys who used their legal expertise to craft bestselling books or highly-rated TV mysteries. Turow came out of the gates on fire with a book that he would never really top in terms of popularity, 1987’s “Presumed Innocent,” made into a hit film with Harrison Ford in 1990 and now remade 34 years later as an Apple TV+ mini-series with Jake Gyllenhaal in the role of an ace prosecutor turned #1 suspect.

Plot: Following chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, the series takes viewers on a gripping journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
Review: Everything old is new again. In 1990, Harrison Ford led the first adaptation of Presumed Innocent, based on the best-selling novel by Scott Turow. A critical success and the eighth-highest-grossing film of the year, Presumed Innocent was a masterful courtroom thriller from director Alan J. Pakula that also delivered one of the best twists ever. While it spawned two small-screen sequels, neither lived up to the original film. Over three decades later, we are getting a remake of Presumed Innocent from the one-two punch of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.

Taylor Sheridan might have started off on the wrong foot during his Hollywood career, but he sure has gotten along exceptionally well. Starting as an actor in small roles, Taylor Sheridan is now a hit writer, producer, and director, best known for creating the magnificent world of Yellowstone. Full of some brilliant actors and characters, Sheridan’s hit Paramount series wasn’t supposed to look like this initially.
Still from Yellowstone | Paramount NetworkAt the start, there was no mention of our fan-favorite character Walker, played by Ryan Bingham. A free-spirited cowboy who does not always get along with everyone, Sheridan decided to cast Bingham after learning he could ride horses.

Two trials play out in the new Apple TV+ adaptation of lawyer-novelist Scott Turow’s 1988 bestselling legal thriller, Presumed Innocent: the criminal case against a Chicago prosecutor charged with murdering a colleague, and the nightmare at home that the murder trial visits on the family of the accused.
Those parallel ordeals stood out for actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who stars in the eight-episode limited series that premieres on Wednesday and runs through July 24. At Sunday’s premiere of Presumed Innocent at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, Gyllenhaal spoke in a panel discussion with showrunner and writer David E. Kelley and two directors, Anne Sewitsky and Greg Yaitanes, about “the trial of the family and the actual trial” and “the juxtaposition between the two.”

On paper, Presumed Innocent might sound like your standard courtroom thriller… but there’s no one you’d rather have writing one of those than David E. Kelley. The man has been cranking out quality TV legal dramas since the days of L.A. Law, and the mind behind Ally McBeal and The Practice delivers once again as writer and showrunner of this new Apple TV+ series, premiering this Wednesday. (I’ve seen seven of the eight episodes.) Kelley takes a familiar premise — one that’s quite similar to Paramount+’s far inferior Fatal Attraction remake, in fact — and spins it into a sturdy,...

With a career that’s ranged 33 years — over three quarters of his life — Jake Gyllenhaal has covered nearly every type of character, genre, and form, but in a recent interview in The Hollywood Reporter, he said he’s now focused on taking on roles that “freak me out a bit.” Whether that means getting cut and learning to give and take a beating for Doug Liman’s “Road House” remake or wading through the moral and ethical murk of murder and infidelity in the upcoming Apple TV+ mini-series “Presumed Innocent,” Gyllenhaal is game for a challenge.
“The feeling I want to have is, can I do it?” said Gyllenhaal. “That it’s going to ask of me things that I don’t know about myself yet.”

The Seinfeld star revealed that she had now wrapped on the movie, although she declined to share any more details when asked if she performed any stunts while working on the project.
"I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Marvel Universe, but when you join it, you sign your life away in an NDA. So, if I say anything to you right now, I will be executed by the universe."

In 1997, Platinum Studios co-founder and chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg came up with a unique genre-mash concept. What if classic Western tropes were infused with a gritty alien invasion storyline?
This idea birthed the graphic novel "Cowboys & Aliens," where gunslingers Zeke Jackson and Verity Jones witness the crash-landing of an alien spaceship during a caravan ambush. The aliens that disembark the ship are not the friendly, benevolent type -- this is a race bent on invading and conquering Earth by destroying everything they set their sights on. Now, it is up to the cowboys to work together with the local natives to defeat the aliens at all costs, even if it means adapting to their superior, futuristic weapons to nudge the odds in their favor.
Although the one-sheet for Rosenberg's graphic novel was always geared toward a big-budget film adaptation, it wasn't until 2011 that the Jon Favreau-helmed "Cowboys & Aliens" was released,...

In the hellscape of the movie business, very little can evade the overseeing eye of the studio system. In Paramount, Taylor Sheridan never had to face an issue of a similar sort regarding the expansion of the Yellowstone universe. But when the same studio forced its decision upon an artist of his caliber, he made sure to make the execs bleed as much as necessary to make their demands come true.

Masashi Kishimoto is a master of many things such as storytelling, art, and creating a world captivating enough to entrance the entire world. However, one talent is enough to equal them all at one go; his ability to make some of the most mesmerizing characters. Each and every character introduced by the mangaka is unique, special, and well built in most cases.

George Lucas’ Star Wars was a truly remarkable film franchise in the sci-fi fantasy genre. But the film series may not have been perfect in all sense. For years, the franchise had been accused of portraying poorly-written female characters. In particular, the original trilogy’s Leia was criticized for being a ‘damsel in distress’ character.

Lucas vehemently defended the series, claiming that the films were groundbreaking for including strong women. He shared that women like Princess Leia and Queen Amidala were the true leaders of the rebellion. He added that he couldn’t just put women in pants in his films to make them the heroes. However, Lucas’ views might be skewed in more than one way.

Captain America: Brave New World reshoots are currently taking place in Atlanta and it appears another major Marvel character has been added to the movie.
Based on a recent Instagram post from paparazzi Atlanta Filming (who has taken hundreds of the shots we've featured here over the years), it appears Benedict Wong will return as the McU's Sorcerer Supreme, Wong.
This might feel like a strange move, but it makes sense on several levels. For starters, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings revealed that Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel seem to regularly meet to discuss threats to Earth-616, so why wouldn't he touch base with the new Captain America?
Then, there's the fact Abomination is now training in Kamar-Taj; he was created by The Leader and could have valuable intel about the villain...heck, he may even show up to help Sam Wilson deal with Red Hulk.

The sky must have been the limit for a young Harrison Ford sailing through Hollywood during the peak of his fame and popularity.
