Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man will go down in history as one of the greatest superhero performances of all time. His character’s journey from selfish playboy to selfless hero was truly inspiring, and his ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame will forever be remembered as a key moment in the MCU.
Of course, Avengers: Infinity War, in which most of the franchise’s heroes came together to try and stop Thanos’ plan to wipe out half of the universe’s population, represented the conclusion of MCU’s decade-long projects. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), the heroes of the MCU were divided into two factions for Avengers: Infinity War’s ending. Nevertheless, in the end, neither group was able to prevent Thanos’ conquest.

Nearly six months after it opened theatrically in the U.S./Canada, Toho’s Oscar Special Effects-winning “Godzilla Minus One” is finally available at home.
As of Saturday June 1, the Takashi Yamazaki film is now available free for subscribers on Netflix. It is also on VOD for $5.99 as a 48-hour rental or $14.99 as a digital download on platforms like iTunes (where it is already #1), Fandango, and Amazon Prime VideoAmazon Prime[/link].
It is unheard of for a Saturday to be a VOD release date, and very unusual for Netflix. That suggests the contractual agreement between Toho and Legendary Pictures (the producers of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”), which called for delayed availability for the Japanese title, specifically set June 1 as the earliest for home release.
A six-month window for home release is unheard of these days. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” had a four-month delay before hitting PVOD. Streaming came after seven months.

Christopher Nolan’s biopic thriller Oppenheimer dominated the box office last year, and the film has been praised for its compelling storyline and incredible portrayal of the father of the atomic bomb. Fans should know that this is not Nolan’s first rodeo when it comes to adapting the life of a real person on the big screen.
Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer / Universal Pictures
He has written a script long ago on the life of aviator Howard Hughes, but the project did not get off the ground because he was beaten to it by fellow veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The latter directed 2004’s The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

While Oppenheimer was Christopher Nolan’s first biographical drama to hit the big screens, this wasn’t the Oscar-winner’s first time penning a script surrounding a real-life figure. Before changing the superhero landscape with The Dark Knight, the director had plans to make a biopic about the American aerospace engineer Howard Hughes, for which he even wrote a script.
But as the story goes, Nolan’s passion project never materialized as before the director could make his pitch, Martin Scorsese was already working on Hughes’ biopic, The Aviator. However, it wasn’t all in vain for Nolan, as his experience working on the script for his Howard Hughes biopic came in handy while penning Oppenheimer.

Speaking of the unmade biopic, Christopher Nolan deemed his script for the canned project the best he’d ever written.

Editor’s note: When Christopher Nolan’s eventual Best Picture Oscar winner Oppenheimer began its global rollout last summer, a question mark hung over whether it would ever see the inside of a cinema in Japan, given the sensitive subject matter. Ultimately, the film released there eight months later, swiftly becoming the top-grossing Hollywood title of the year and continuing to hold that position (now at $11.6M). Nine weeks in, it is still playing on more than half of the market’s Imax screens, and in local currency (¥1.774B) is Nolan’s fourth-highest-grossing picture ever there.

It took Robert Downey Jr. a while to completely understand the ways of an iconic director – David Fincher.
David Fincher is one of the greatest filmmakers alive today thanks to his incredible eye for detail and dark, intelligent narratives in his films. He began his journey as a director with Alien 3 and then went on to blow everyone away with his 1995 film, Seven. He has also directed Gone Girl, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Fight Club, a film that is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon across the globe.

However, it is his 2007 release, Zodiac, that remains one of our all-time favorites. The film follows the story of the infamous Zodiac Killer and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo along with Jake Gyllenhaal. Now, David Fincher is notorious for doing retakes until the scene reaches perfection.

To say that this Memorial Day weekend was a disappointment at the box office would be a grave understatement. Warner Bros. unleashed director George Miller's "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" in theaters, while Sony Pictures released the family-friendly "The Garfield Movie." On paper, we had a much-anticipated (or so we thought) prequel to "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is one of the most beloved action movies of all time, as well as an animated movie that could get parents out of the house with their kids. In practice, we endured a truly sobering several days' worth of lousy ticket sales.
"Furiosa" topped the charts with a $26.3 million haul through Sunday, with that number growing to $32 million when accounting for the Monday holiday. "Garfield" came in a close second with $24 million over the weekend and $31.1 million through Monday. Both of those numbers were well below industry projections, with "Furiosa" failing...

Another weekend, another bit of very bad news for the movie business. Memorial Day weekend has, historically, been a major frame for the box office, with Disney's "The Little Mermaid" remake pulling in $95.4 million last year. (That number grows to $117.5 million when accounting for the Monday holiday.) That's what we've come to expect, pandemic notwithstanding. Unfortunately, the dual threat of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" and "The Garfield Movie" didn't prove to be much of a threat at all, as both films fell well short of expectations, leading to a downright terrible holiday weekend. Garfuriosa was, in the end, the direct opposite of last year's Barbenheimer phenomenon in every way imaginable.
Warner Bros.' "Furiosa" took the top spot on the charts, pulling in $26.3 million through Sunday, with that number growing to an estimated $32 million when accounting for Monday. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures' new animated "Garfield" film landed at number two...

Glen Powell is arguably one of the most bankable young actors in Hollywood right now, who isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon. Since rising to stardom after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell has continued to spread his acting chops across various genres, which includes the rom-com Anyone but You, which became a smash hit.

Exclusive: NBCUniversal (NBCU) Global TV Distribution has struck a content deal with Asian streamer Begin.
According to Begin, this is the first time that NBCU content will be legally watchable in Pakistan, as the U.S. major’s movies and shows have historically been pirated via Pakistani telecoms and internet service providers.
The nascent streamer, which is headquartered in the UAE, backed by Z2C Limited and available in Pakistan, has picked up movies including Oppenheimer, The Holdovers and Kung Fu Panda 4 as part of the multi-year deal. Ted Sarandos claims that the huge success of last year’s Barbie and Oppenheimer could have been replicated on Netflix.
Netflix boss Ted Sarandos has sat down with The New York Times for a comprehensive interview and among other things, claimed that the huge audience numbers that drove last year’s Barbenheimer sensation could have happened on Netflix.
Hmmm.
When asked whether those kinds of big tentpole sensations were simply outside of Netflix’s ‘wheelhouse’, Sarandos responded by stating that “both of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix, and so I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that certain kinds of movies do or don’t work.”
Whilst Sarandos’ answer holds some truth, there are of course some things that are left unsaid.

Renowned for his innovative and often conceptually rich storytelling, Christopher Nolan has carved out a distinctive niche for himself by delivering visually stunning narratives on the big screen, specifically in IMAX format. Whether it is Interstellar, The Dark Knight trilogy, or the Oscar-winning blockbuster Oppenheimer, the filmmaker constructs cinematic worlds with minimal reliance on CGI, opting instead for practical methods to breathe life into his creations.

Christopher Nolan’s thriller/historical drama from 2023, Oppenheimer, is a based-on-real-events story, and be it Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer in the lead role or Gary Oldman’s President Harry Truman in a supporting one — everyone made sure to make it seem as realistic as possible.
But what if some of the scenes from the film never really happened in the first place?
Oppenheimer. | Credit: Universal Pictures.
As it turns out, it seems like one of the most iconic scenes in the entire movie as Truman just may have stemmed from a figment of Nolan’s imagination. Or, to be more precise, it may have never happened in the first place the way it was depicted, and the filmmaker just may have improvised it.
Why? Well, simply put: Because historical accounts recall it somewhat differently.

Netflix CEO Says “A.I. Is Not Going To Take Your Job,” As He Declares “Barbie” & “Oppenheimer” Would’ve “Enjoyed Just As Big An Audience” on The Streamer ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
In an interview with the New York Times, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed his unwavering faith in the streaming service he has been part of for 24 years. Ted Sarandos, who believes the streaming giant offers quality content, told the New York Times that the 2023 blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” would’ve “enjoyed just as big an audience” on Netflix as they did in theaters.
While discussing what type of content wouldn’t work on streamers, Ted Sarandos, who oversaw Netflix’s early expansion into streaming, explained there’s no reason to believe movies that do well in theatres would not have potentially fared well in streaming services. The Barbenheimer phenomenon was something that everyone talked about last summer when two very important movies came out. One of them was Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, a movie that showed us how great feminism can work on screen, while the other was Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, a movie that showed us the terror of atomic energy. Both these movies were released at the same time and many people believed that they would cancel each other out and create a rivalry, but what happened was something completely different!
Fans of both movies united and this led to the birth of the Barbenheimer phenomenon, which brought in a substantial amount of money for cinemas last year, as Barbie fans called for people to go watch Oppenheimer, while Oppenheimer fans urged people to go watch Barbie. The summer of 2023 was encapsulated in two films at the same time: Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan and Barbie by Greta Gerwig. Since they came out the same weekend, moviegoers were treated to a sort of double feature.
These two blockbusters not only dominated the world last year, but they also reignited our collective desire for a silver-screen experience. Both films exceeded box office expectations, with Margot Robbie’s film enchanting its way to a $1.4 billion global haul, while Oppenheimer’s Oscar-winning narrative netted a whopping $951.4 million.

But Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently stirred quite the conversation with his belief that these films could have shone just as brightly on streaming platforms. One can’t help but wonder: How different would the scenario be if these cultural phenomena had debuted on Netflix rather than the cinema’s big screen?

Ted Sarandos is commenting on the box office success of Oppenheimer, Barbie, and their Netflix series Baby Reindeer.
In a new interview, the Netflix CEO said that the films starring Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy would’ve been just as big on the streaming platform.
“Both of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix,” Sarandos said in an interview with the New York Times. “And so I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that certain kinds of movies do or don’t work. There’s no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people. My son’s an editor. He is 28 years old, and he watched Lawrence of Arabia on his phone.”
Barbie and Oppenheimer, directed by Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan, respectively, were big box office winners.

The Memorial Day Weekend we’d all like to forget: Any claims to #1 are premature. “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (Warner Bros.) and “The Garfield Movie” (Sony) are in a battle for #1 for the four-day holiday, but each only estimates around $25 million for Friday to Sunday. (“Furiosa” is ahead.)
This is a holiday release date often chosen for a film that’s expected to be among the top three of the year. Unadjusted, neither “Furiosa” nor “Garfield” would be among the top 50 openers historically for this particular weekend; adjusting to current ticket prices, not even the top 100.
Current estimates for the four-day weekend are $101 million, but the crisis lies in the whole month. May is supposed to kick off summer and it has failed. It confirms that post- “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” box-office depression has no end in sight.

This year, acclaimed British filmmaker Christopher Nolan has finally received his first Oscar for his work on Oppenheimer and everyone agreed that it was deserved, but also that it should not have been his first Oscar, seeing how many masterful movies Nolan had made before Oppenheimer. In that aspect, the filmmaker officially became a part of history and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many of his colleagues speak very highly of him and his achievements over the years.
Although modern cinema is much more diverse than it was decades ago, and there are several equally innovative and important approaches to filmmaking, we cannot deny that Nolan definitely changed cinema. His visionary approach, as well as his unshakeable stance in defending his own approach to his craft, make Nolan one of the most important filmmakers in history.

We're in an interesting cultural moment. For a while, it seemed like society was becoming more progressive, and the film industry seemed to follow suit; there are more stories being told now, about more kinds of people. However, if you take a cursory look at Film Twitter or FilmTok, you're likely to find people complaining about "unnecessary sex scenes." There's a backlash brewing, a sense that movies need to get back to an imagined past when everything was about plot.
A lot of that concern involves kids, as if the two kinds of entertainment are either "Oppenheimer" or "Bluey." In fact, there's a lot of middle ground, and there used to be even more. Especially in the 1980s and 1990s, a lot of family-friendly films included scenes for adults that felt a bit out of place but made it in anyway. These days, a lot of those violent, strange edges...

Working in a big franchise is a high-risk, high-reward venture for an actor. And even then, the aftermath may not be as favorable as one might think. There are roles that become embedded in the viewers’ minds, like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man or Daisey Ridley’s Rey, which makes it difficult for them to see the performers in a different role.

Christopher Nolan has constantly had to adapt as a filmmaker. The 53-year-old director has helmed successful blockbusters including 'Inception' and 'Oppenheimer' but explained that he has never worked on any of the ideas he had growing up because of the ever-changing nature of the movie industry. In an interview with Empire magazine, Nolan said: "As a young man, I had a list of, however many I'd worked out, 12 or 13 films... I had a lot of ideas and a lot of very specific things that I was going to do. And I look back and I haven't done any of them; they all changed."When you plan ahead too far in the movie business, you're not taking into account the shifting sands of culture under your feet... Few filmmakers can boast a filmography like Christopher Nolan. The legendary director has risen to all-time-great since his arrival in the ‘90s, moving from cerebral indie fare like Memento and Following, to none-more-ambitious brain-twisting blockbusters like Inception and the Oscar-dominating Oppenheimer. Factor in one of the greatest superhero trilogies of all time with the Dark Knight movies, bold originals like Interstellar and Tenet, and instant-classic thrillers like The Prestige and Dunkirk, and you have a body of work for the ages. And as the director tells Empire, none of it worked out quite how he expected.

Everywhere on social media, you read comments from readers lamenting our modern culture.
They long for the good old days when comedy was offensive, antiheroes said whatever they were thinking, and actors were judged by their undeniable talent rather than the biggest mistakes of their careers.
Plotlines were more important than representation. Complicated characters were more important than "Wokeness."
Back then, they say, it didn't matter if a character was black or gay. All that mattered was the story.
We watched because a filmmaker had something important to say, not because every race and sexual orientation appeared and was treated with respect.
We listened because regardless of what anyone said about a comedian, at least he was funny!
Unsurprisingly, many of the same social critics would also say no movies from the 2010-2030 era will be remembered as classics 20 or 30 years from now.

Donna Langley has done it all. She slowly worked her way up the ranks at Universal Studios and now runs the whole entertainment side of NBCUniversal — motion pictures, Focus Features, television, and Peacock.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is doing something different for “The Smashing Machine.” The mixed martial arts biopic is the first film that could get the blockbuster action star some awards attention. And a first-look photo from the film reveals that Johnson looks different than usual.

Johnson appears to have some facial prosthetics, his characteristic tattoos are covered up, and his usually bald head sports a wig. Film industry players gathered at Mr. Nakamoto at the Mondrian hotel in Cannes on Monday night to celebrate Universal Pictures International.
As Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh pointed out in his opening remarks, Universal had several big successes this past year, not the least of which was Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” which took home seven Oscars. The studio also produced box office hits “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “M3GAN” and “Cocaine Bear,” and is promising a victory lap this year with “The Bikeriders,” “Despicable Me 4,” “Twisters” and “Wicked” on the lineup.
For this reason, Universal Pictures International was awarded Variety‘s international achievement in film award, which was accepted by the company’s president of distribution — international Veronika Kwan Vandenberg.
During her speech, Kwan Vandenberg thanked her team, including NBCUniversal chairman and chief content officer Donna Langley, head of business affairs Jimmy Horowitz, head of global distribution Peter Levinsohn, head...

Filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan are known for pushing the boundaries in blockbuster filmmaking as they bring in original ideas and mount them on a large scale. While the directors have grown to be critical favorites, they also seem to have won the box office race with their original films.
Among these legends, Christopher Nolan seems to have gained the top spot in one category. With four of his original films grossing over $500 million at the box office, Nolan beat Spielberg and Roland Emmerich to gain the top spot. The Oscar-winner is the only filmmaker to have achieved this feat with movies that are not comic adaptations, reboots, or sequels.
