Argylle (2024)
Is anybody else going to acknowledge the elephant in the room?
I'm a big fan of the Director, and most of the cast of this film. They are normally safe bets of a reasonable film.
And this film has a truly top notch cast.
So how could so many collaborate to make such a total mess?
This was an embarrassing mess.
The story was old, pulling cliches from every film in this genre. But it amounted to nothing. A vacuum of warn out tropes and actors just going through the motions to pick up a paycheque.
Do you think they were all aware that they were making a pile of dungheap before seeing the premiere?
And as hard as I tried, I could not suspend belief enough to consider Bryce Dallas Howard was in shape enough to be convincing as a highly trained super agent. It was like watching a later Steven Seagal "action" film.
A big thumbs down for me.
Retribution (2023)
Why are geriatrics playing much younger characters?
The story is boring and done to death.
But like my heading, why the hell is an old aged pensioner like Liam Neeson playing a character that should have been portrayed by an actor 30 to 40 years younger??
I mean seriously, does Neeson really need the money? Did he lose his retirement funds to a poor crypto purchase?
It is ridiculous, and stops the viewer from buying into the fantasy.
Garbage. Total garbage.
And what's with all the boring unbelievable dialogue that only cares about exposition while being devoid of personality?
I've been struggling sleeping of late. Too much pain with the osteoarthritis in my left knee. But this film helped put me to sleep in no time. If you struggle with sleep then I would highly recommend this film for you too.
Otherwise avoid it if you treasure your time.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Shyamalan is a boring sensationalist hack.
Everything about this film is an insult to our intelligence and reasoning. It's boring and ridiculous.
Shyamalan made 1 good film in his career. The rest have been disappointments. I cannot believe he managed to con decent actors into making this garbage. Clearly money is more important than quality for some. I thought Bautista was attempting to make good films, but he would have been better making that Marvel garbage. It shines above this.
What an insult to our intelligence and care factors.
The premise is not only stupid, but it lacks any real credibility.
Dumb like the Director.
Hopefully he gives up filmmaking.
Totally stupid and embarrassing.
On the Line (2022)
Regardless of the poor reviews this is is a fun ride.
I cannot believe the amount of negative reviews for this film. Jeez Louise! It was a fun ride, very much in the vein of Michael Douglas's The Game.
I honestly think people have way too much time and access to films that their ability to just sit back and enjoy a good film is weighed down by overstimulation and overly sensitive discernment. I guess their need for a bigger hit of that drug has desensitised them, making them elitist and snobbish.
The film is a one time watch, being that the ride would be spoiled by the ending , once you know it. But for first time viewers it offers a decent amount of twists and turns. Admittedly it wasn't too hard to spot some of the twists, and a few more red herrings and further twists may have elevated it slightly.
The acting was decent enough. Nobody is going home with an Oscar, but the performances were convincing enough to carry the story with a reasonable amount of believability.
Definitely worth a watch.
The Ice Road (2021)
Worth a look
Just watched this definite future Oscar winner. About time films were made with realism and attention to detail. They clearly put a lot of time into getting the details just right for a change.
The acting is first class, fortunate to have such engaging words on the scripted page.
You are in for a real treat with this one. I have heard it is based on a true story, with real life survivors on set to keep tight grip on the authenticity.
This film requires multiple viewings so as to not miss the many layered storyline.
A highly recommend.
Now I just need to find my Clozapine tablets and have a little rest.
Monster Hunter (2020)
Above my pay grade 🙄
As soon as a character used the most annoying cliche, 'that's above my pay grade' they lost me.
There are too many things wrong to report on this garbage that it's not worth my pay grade 🙄
Garbage!
Outlander: The Deep Heart's Core (2019)
Don't be swayed by the negative reviews
I'm writing my first review in reply to those that have disliked this episode, and have attacked the character Bree's motivations for lashing out at her newly founded family members.
I admit I haven't read the books and so can only comment from the viewpoint of this television series, and the decision the writer/s have made to translate it onto the screen.
I think the pacing and arc of this episode is perfect. It was certainly not drawn out, but instead built the tension just perfectly. To suggest it could have been moved along more expediently suggests a lack of respect and understanding of the craft.
Furthermore Bree's motivation for lashing out at our newly acquainted father and cousin is perfectly acceptable under the circumstances.
It doesn't make her a horrible character, rather it shows her love and connection with Roger. I much prefer the characters to be well rounded than to be 2 dimensional.
I'm really engaged into this season's storylines and look forward to seeing how it plays out.
