Captain Marvel (2019)
Biggest Disappointment of 2019?
I'm going to quickly go over a list of things I thought were good and bad from this movie in order to keep things organized.
Good:
Samuel L. Jackson and the impressive cgi done on him, the actor that played Talos did a good job, a few decent jokes and occasional cool 90's nostalgia stuff.
Bad:
Brie Larson was utter garbage as Carol Danvers, basic and generic origin story, predictable and boring plot, the continuity of Nick Fury as a character and the essentially non-existent character development of Carol Danvers.
Now I'm gonna touch on a few of these points.
Brie Larson/ Carol Danvers:
Brie was dreadful in this role, she had the emotional range of a squirt gun in this role. This isn't even considering her antics shes been having off screen, I just genuinely think she isn't good in this role and it should've been given to someone more charismatic. Now Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel, she had pretty much no character development and ended the movie the same as she began except with more powers. Carol also gave the fans no real reason to like her as a character and I often found myself not caring at all about her. She had some really awful lines throughout the movie, which I could overlook if the movie was actually good. And even though I generally dislike the term, she is the epitome of a "Mary Sue".
Nick Fury: Not gonna get too into it due to spoilers, but Nick Fury is not the same at all to how we've previously seen him behave.
Plot and overall story: I didn't enjoy the movie even though I really wanted to like it, but it has problems that you just can't ignore. The movie overall is also pretty boring and has no unique style to it. They tried to go with a more Guardians of Galaxy type approach with the retro vibe, but it fell flat and wasn't anywhere near as well done as Guardians. I feel obligated to mention the extremely forced political stuff in this movie because it was quite annoying. Keep politics out of superhero movies and stop having out of touch celebrities constantly trying to preach to us.
MCU: This movies sole purpose was to force yet another character into Endgame and not even a popular character to comic book readers either. And from what I've heard the next phase of the MCU is going to have Captain Marvel as the central character, like how Tony Stark is currently. This is extremely concerning to me as a huge fan of Marvel. Brie Larson simply DOES NOT have the charisma necessary to replace someone like Robert Downey jr. Captain Marvel is also just not interesting enough as a character to be able to carry a franchise this large.
Final Verdict: Is it a good movie? No. Is it the worst movie ever? No. Is it the worst MCU movie? I think so. On the overall scale of MCU movies I'd say it's either the worst or just in front of the Incredible Hulk. Save your money, don't see it in theaters and just wait till it's eventually thrown on Netflix or something. You'll be able to understand Endgame without this movie so just skip Captain Marvel until it's out on a streaming service.
Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall (2017)
I'm sorry, but this is an awful idea
The entire plot line of going beyond the wall to capture a wight makes no sense. And why would the King in the North and only ally left of Daeny's allow him to do this personally. It was an episode of fan service by taking popular characters and throwing them in a situation together. Everything about the episode is nonsensical, how did Jon know Gendry was fast? Why did Jon keep charging at Wights to flex how cool he was instead of hopping on the dragon and leaving. Where did the Whitewalkers get that massive chain to pull the dead dragon out of the water, plus I thought it was established Wights couldn't swim so how'd they get the chain on it? I love this show so much and I really wanted to like this episode, but I just can't. It's dumb and full of plot holes. By far the worst episode GoT has ever made.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (2018)
Beautiful
One of the best and most immersive RPG's to come out in a very long time. Game is very frustrating and hard at the beginning but slowly becomes easier. Great story and fun twists, plus the game is still being expanded on with DLC, free updates and a sequel on its way.
