Doctor Who (2023)
Love Doctor Who & LOVE Ncuti as the new Doctor
I love the nuances that each new Doctor brings to the show. I do have favorites but have loved them all. That said, I love Ncuti's energy so much. Not just the Doctor Who energy, but HIS energy! I am so invigorated at the end of each episode because you can see how much of himself he puts into it. His smile touches my heart and I just want to go around hugging people, telling them to watch this show if they want their day to be brighter. Of course the writers are amazing but a great actor is required to bring a character as charismatic and complex as The Doctor to fruition! Ncuit's got this hands down! I hope he keeps playing this part for a very long time. The world needs a Doctor Who like this one.
House of the Rising Sun (2011)
Like the movie until the end, then....huh?
Ok so I am a HUGE Dave Bautista fan and I k ow this was basically one of his first jaunts into acting and honestly his acting was not bad for intents and purposes. I love the other actors, Dominic Purcell is a favorite and who does not love Danny Trejo? Amy Smart is also a bright and funny actress. These things I loved. I liked the premise of the movie and the writing for the most part was really good. What I didnt like was the blasé ending. Who ends a movie all abrupt like that. " I love you" "Have a good life." Where is the follow through? Where is the actual ending? Does he go to prison? Does he get out and prove his story is true? Where does life go from there? Doesnt need to be much, just a little tidbit to give some answers instead of leaving it all hanging like laundry on a breezy day!! Other than that I liked the movie but the ending knocks 3 points off of a 10for a nice round 7!
The Shepherd (2023)
Never heard/read the story, loved the short
I see lots of Disney haters on here bad mouthing what I see as a nice holiday story with a little bit of love, a touch of anxiety and a splash of unexpected holiday magic! I have never heard the story read on Christmas Eve or read the story myself but after watching this lovely short, which warmed me with holiday spirit, I think I will go buy the book and read the story.
I see on here a lot of people are up in arms about the age, facial hair, skin color, etc of some of the casting choices to which I say, who cares!!! The story was written in 1975 and although it is a period piece there is such thing as creative license taken by every director in the history of the cinema. Enjoy this beautiful story. Allow it to warm your heart and fill you with wonderment. I would love to see Disney invest in creating more family friendly shorts like this one. Money well spent.
Dial S for Santa (2023)
Enjoyable Christmas movie with a twist
I am a connoisseur of Christmas Movies. This one had a great premise and was an enjoyable watch for the most part but I do have one criticism and I really don't like having to say this but all of the actors were wonderful except the primary actress playing Lana. She had the acting ability, depth of character, and personality of a wet sock. She seemed to have one look on her face at all times as if her face was frozen, one monotone delivery for pretty much every scene and I was bored to tears by her acting. Now, that said I will say that I am sure I could not have done better and as I said I really don't like to be this negative but I also don't want to shower praise where none is warranted. Maybe in a different part she would be better but not this one. As I said the rest of the cast delivered a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the writers did a great job delivering something unique. I love a good whodunnit with a Christmas twist. They should definitely utilize the actor who played Nick in more leading mens rolls. I also liked the Santa. He was a subtle Santa and had the right aura for the roll.
The Continental (2023)
Great storyline & so many possibilities to go from here
So if you like JW you are going to LOVE this prequel, & if you've never seen JW thats cool too because this is amazing as a stand alone story! That being said I love how they ended the story. It leaves the writers so many doors open to continue this series on if they chose. From other assassins and their relationships with Winston and The Continental to the development of JW as a young assassin & even his complete origin story. They could mix things up with multiple assassins stories throughout the decades & incorporate JW origins & young assassinhood too. So so many options are open for them to continue this series. They could even do another spinoff about how this whole world of assassins & the High Table came into existence and developed into a global network. Can you tell how excited I am at all of the possibilities?!
Ok all of that said, this was a brilliantly crafted origin story for Winston & Charon as well as the brutal, loyal & talented group of kick arse miscreants they worked with & fought beside. It was action packed with plenty of guns, beatings, shootouts, & a few bits of romance & even true love! Unlike so many shoot 'em up stories nothing was really done as filler it was all part & parcel to the authenticity of the story line. Even the cop had a deep seeded reason for being there. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time & left me wanting more. Now there were a few stings which didn't seem to be completely pulled & explained but then again maybe that was intentional to see how the ratings were and if they were good maybe those would be explained in future episodes/stories. Here's hoping thats the case!
Good Omens (2019)
Good Omens; one of the best things on television
I LOVE this show!! A mixture of a complex friendship, the dichotomy of good and evil, perfect comedic timing and excellent writing. Add to all of that the amazing FX and you have a visual and entertaining masterpiece. Good Omens is "The Odd Couple" of the 21st century.
Not since the 1970's , when The Odd Couple television series aired (based off of the 1968 movie of the same name), have I seen a dramedy ( more emphasis on the comedy) so well delivered. David Tennant and Michael Sheen were born to play these roles. Davids swagger and aloofness as Crowley and Michaels sincerity and intermittent timidness endears you to both of them.
The storylines are well thought out and brilliantly enacted. I can not state this enough I can not wait for more!! If you haven't watched this series, do yourself a favor. Pop a big bowl of popcorn and binge watch! It is so worth it!
P. S. I find it interesting that both Good Omens and The Odd Couple were written by a "Neil"! Just saying. :)
Dead to Me (2019)
Could NOT stop watching
It is 4:30 am, super early on s Saturday morning, but I am just about to go to bed because I could not stop watching this show!!!
It was so well written and soo well acted that it just sucked me in. I am now enraptured in this story and cant believe that I will have to wait a year or MORE to catch another season.......UNLESS.........they figure because the episodes are each about 30 minutes long they could come out with season 2 in 6 months!🙏🏻🙏🏻 From my lips to Gods ear!
