Jessica Jones: A.K.A. Start at the Beginning (2018)
Weak plot, lack of any villain
This season was bad in a lot of ways, but for some reason I want to focus on a side character; Pryce Cheng, because it's obvious the writers didn't exactly try too hard for this side character.
They obviously tried to make Pryce Cheng look like a macho jerk, but they failed. The writers should know being in navy or ambitious doesn't necessarily make you a hateful person.
Let's take a quick look at what he did during the season:
He came to Jessica's apartment and tried to employ her, but Jessica rejected him with her way of 'I'll punch your face' attitude.
Then he stole her clients, while that may looks terrible, but remember it isn't illegal, while it's illegal to break into a house and steal.
I remember when Jessica had an argument with him in his work place, he said :"You think it's tough? Tough is working your a$s off to build a reputation. Tough is not letting a$sholes $hit on it." And I'm afraid he got a point. Having physical power doesn't mean you're also tough and powerful, is what feminism is trying to say. And what this show is failed at it.
Jessica admitted that Pryce Cheng had no secret in his life. He always followed the law. And that's why it was disappointing when apparently him suing Jessica seemed like an irrational move. Why? Jessica was the one who went to his office, and beated him.
And Jeri's word saying:"Oh, god. You got beat...by a girl. Deal with it." This really made me angry. So Jessica's hittings don't count... Because she's a girl? If they wanted to relate this to feminism, it turned out quite the opposite. Also, understimating Jessica Jones in her own series!
And the scene just after Jessica Jones released from jail? "You're embarrassing yourself" What the hell, he just lost his friend last night, and all evidences are against Jessica. Why so insensitive? This season just doesn't make any sense.
What We Do in the Shadows: Freddie (2022)
Not the usual WWDITS but I get the point
Usually this series'episodes are hilarious, but this episode striked me hard.
Let me get straight to the point: Marwa.
I don't know whether it was the usual dark comedy, or something else. I might be wrong. I guess that the writers wanted to deliver a message here. And here's my assumption: An Iranian woman, her appearance, her free will, and finally her character, is changed by her husband and king's whims. At last, the only way she can find the happiness was by magically turning into a white man.
That was incredibly sad...
What do we know about Marwa? I mean beside her being a sidekick. Was she good? Bad? Interesting? Annoying? What did she like or detest? We don't know. Because she remained a shallow, obedient follower, against her will.
Anyway I appreciate the writers.
Dark Web: Cicada 3301 (2021)
Fun
A smart guy without respect for law but doesn't earn enough money? Anyway, the movie was entertaining. I laughed at NSA guys, his friend Avi was so funny, and the storyline was exciting enough to keep the audience. What annoyed me was the ending. It was obviously rushed. We didn't see the real Cicada guys, and all those efforts and struggles to solve the puzzle just to reach a s.x party? Seriously? And tha last dialogue was too unrelated to the story and came out of nowhere. The main character blackmailed the government and stayed in the country, with his whole limbs attached to his body? Sure, why not.
To sum it up, I like this movie, but I don't like the way it was finished.
Sluga narodu (2015)
An Underrated TV Show
I expected a shallow comedy, but it was more than that. Storyline, humor, even characteristics, perfect. Also, the great acting of the cast should not be forgotten. I laughed, I sympathized, I even got angry for the protagonist. It is amazing every characters had their back grounds, and even the antagonist and the villain were awesome. The series never failed at surprising me, the plot twists were always great. It has such a well-written script. Also, it makes good point about political corruptions.
My favorite characters were Iouri Ivanovitch Tchuiko (Vasily's friend-enemy) and Mikhail Ashotovich Tasunyan (Vasily's friend).
Hacker (2016)
"My uncle!" and other bluh bluh bluhs
The movie is entertaining, and the acting was good. The problem was the logic. First of all, the reason Alex tried to enter dark web was to make money. But the only way they allowed him was to hack someone's credit card, and he was able to do so. So he didn't NEED to enter dark web to make money!! Second, one might think Roosevelt and Z, cyber criminals who are doing this for a while, must be careful and reluctant to show their faces to someone who knows their secret identities. But the reason they met him was too chip. Roosevelt didn't even know why he was meeting Alex. And last, the girl was suspicious from her first appearance but I take that Alex was too young to notice. What I don't get it is why the cops made such a big show for Alex, why they didn't just threaten him and his family? Alex's role in the whole thing wasn't even needed. That police literally directed the whole show by himself.
And the ending was too cheesy. I didn't feel the bond between Alex and Kira was that strong, so that Alex forgave her so quickly for deceiving him. Also, this whole resumption of "a chance to start over and make an honest living"? These sentences are so forced and fake I felt like the movie is made to be shown at school. Behave, kids; whoever tries to smuggle, ends up in prison.
And most of the questions stayed unanswered, more like they were just there to keep the movie interesting.
Also, as a movie called 'hacker', it's barely about hacking and more about three kids playing around.
